High performance in all areas needed to take Dominica to the next level – Jennifer Astaphan

CARICAD Executive Director Jennifer Astaphan

Executive Director of the Caribbean Center for Development and Administration (CARICAD) Jennifer Astaphan has said that high performance is not only needed in the public sector but all spheres of the country.

Astaphan made her comments when she addressed a recent Public Service Awards and Recognitions Ceremony as a featured speaker for the event.

“In democratic societies, like ours citizens are demanding accountability from their government on the other hand governments are looking for higher productivity. In 2010-11 budget speech, the prime minister had stated that and I quote, ‘government is placing renewed attention to the imperative of increasing productivity at all levels of society and this effort will be coordinated by the soon-to-be approved productivity council of Dominica’,” she stated.

“I’m not sure whether the productivity council has been appointed, but productivity goes hand in hand with excellence. And together, I may borrow the phrase, ‘Taking Dominica to the next level’. This then suggests that the intention of taking Dominica to the next level is to create not just high performance in the public service in Dominica but high performance in every sphere of the country as a whole,” she said.

A number of public servants were awarded and recognized for their service in the sector over the years. Among recipients were Derrick Theophile who copped the Junior Officer and the Public Officer of the Year awards.

The event was held at the Arawak House of Culture.

what a joke…this government spin all issues my dear so absoultely its sucks when it comes to standards in Dominica take that and places like St.Lucia, Barbados etc where the citizens seek for digging for higger ground….not in Dominica…

did we ever had a debate for our elections……its time the caribbean proffessional maintain a standard rather than just getting hug salaries and no fruit being harvested….its just a talk shop in this place….thats why we are considered thirld world….

lets be objective in our thinking yes but we worship man made Gods because they either have a crooked smile and love to spin and mislead folks what a Joke..

just look at the hospitals looked at the non medical types they have for patients etc…and the lack of modern equipment….we in the caribbean talk way too much rubbish…

then what 27 million dollars for a state place……interestings how standards you speak about just a joke…..have a nice rest thats much better…

High performance for the next level?

    Ok , that is fair…

But I want to know what level is it when public officers know that they resigning and leak documents to embarrass ministers over a road project fully knowing that they will no longer be in the local service to take any heat far less to be in the Country to face any court appearance.

I want d local public service to tell me what level is that and all other public service organisations in d world to give their opinion and for those public officers to stop this bad behavior.

Lack of service to the country is killing the place.. everyone has to look at themselves in the mirror and ask themself a question.

Politicians, clergy, farmers, cashiers, doctors, nurses, man on the block etc etc

Yeah, by now we should all know when MOTS is teasing us or provoking us to express some kind of frustration against what he says. Can’t you all see that he does it on purpose? He is not insulting no one, so why bother with him.

But on the other hand, some of you make me laugh as well, in your attack against him. Like the way the person name HEY said it. I just had to laugh out loud. Makes me remember sitting around with friends and family just laughing about nonsense. That is part of life in a world where everything is plagued with frustration. Let us learn to laugh a bit.
