High profile figures to go on “Hike with the Clergy”

Next Monday’s “Hike with the Clergy” event will have a few high profile figures hitting the Penville to Capuchin leg of the Waitukubuli National Trail.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Bishop of Roseau Gabriel Malzaire and Tourism Minister Ian Douglas are expected to be among hikers to be found on what’s known as Segment 13 of the trail on May 7.

Organisers say the activity will be held primarily to raise funds for a major conference of the diocesan priests of the province of Castries to be held in Dominica in January 2013.

Parish Priest of Portsmouth Father Herman Sharplis has been charged with the responsibility of coordinating the hike.

He explained that one of the aims is to promote wellness and healthy living.

“There is a lot of talk about how big people have gotten, so we see this as an opportunity to encourage our people to come out and walk more,” the Catholic priest said.

He explained further that the hike will also be an opportunity for Dominicans to discover and appreciate the island’s natural beauty.

“We need to take ownership of the trail. Why should people come from overseas and speak so highly of our trail and we don’t take advantage of it ourselves? The scenery on the trail is breathtaking and all who can, should take advantage of this opportunity,” Father Sharplis said.

come on, is this walk for certain few or who would like to go on the walk?
why are we so negative and put our own meaning to things that look positive? you do not see in counrties where person do not have the previlages to go out and explore their own country? why do we always cry down on things that look positive? give thanks to God for the blessings in life. yes you have to talk about the wrong but please for your own blessings, try to put positive thoughts in things that are positive. when we cry on negative too much, it will stay with us.

The Bishop knows that this DLP administration is corrupt, then why is he associating himself with the leader?
There are Catholics in every political party Mr. Bishop. Will you do the same when the other parties organize a march?
I have never seen this sort of religious marriage in politics as I am seeing in Dominica today.

Medard’s taking a page of mamo’s book.Bishop Bogat during the -pre-1980 election campaign at saturday night service told church goers to vote freedom. All the then charismaticswhere more than pillars in the church. It was freedom time.then came the subset of freedom the eddies etc who fell out of grace with Mamo for a salary increase.
So guys this is deja vu all over again. It was the frenchjournalist, critic and novelist; jean-baptiste Alphonse karr’s epigram:

The Man has just introduced Casino Gambling to Dominica and the Bishop rewards him by gracing him with his presence on a Hike?

You see why fewer people put less money in the church collection? You will now have to do many more of these hikes to raise funds for your church.

From time gone by, we have been hearing of the phrase, ‘Show me your company and we’ll know who you are.’ Does it apply at all times?

A match in Roseau against increased crime and violence, with several ‘high Profile’ people, including the PM and Bishop walking together, resulted in what? More and more crimes.

Advocacy against corrupt practices, decline in spiritual, moral, ethical velues, bad governance, has been badly lacking.

But in the scheme of things, the people of Dominica will hear and see all kinds of psychological ploys. The serious issues of national import that affect people’s lives, that the congregations and wider public should know about, are not being told. Corrupt practices are plenty and not forcefully condemned.

To appear not to be on the side of the exploited and victimized or the powerless, to give vent to speculations of a brotherhood among those who wield political and economic power, is worrying for any nation.

Why is the silence of the churches hierarchy so loud on the recent issues of slot casino gambling that would certainly negatively affect the youth. The same youth who they claim to be instructing and directing on a righteous path.

But who told us that slot casino gambling is not gambling, but a game? Who cut the ribbon? Who is defending that Slot Casino gambling now being operated at Krazy Kokonuts?

Playing on the people’s minds. It is the disregard for the good teachings of Christ and the practice of those good teachings in our everyday lives that must be seriously tackled. Do the flocks have any trusted shepards?

I am trying to figure out the purpose of this hike – what is it in aid of? Is it to raise funds for the church rehabilitation? What is the purpose?

This seems like a purely PR stunt – not sure who the beneficiary of the press gained will be but it just seems like a total waste of time.

If the powers that be want to get out and burn some steam let them do it in private

    May 2, 2012

Those who are studying the scripture well will know this is just a sneak peek of the church and state coming together. The Roman Catholic Church must persecute the true believers and as such they need the support of the Government for them to implement their plans. Believers do not take this as lightly as it sounds, get on your knees and pray earnestly. The end time is nearer than you beleive.
