IN PICTURES: Pagua Bridge falling apart

The bridge is said to be falling apart

A concerned citizen has contacted Dominica News Online concerning the state of the Pagua Bridge located in St. David on the eastern part of the island.

According to the concerned citizen, the bridge is literally falling apart and is a disaster waiting to happen.

The bridge has even dropped a bit from the level of the road, Dominica News Online was informed.

The citizen is now calling on the relevant authorities to take an urgent look at the bridge to avert any possible tragedy.

One of the biggest problems in Dominica and many of the other Caribbean islands is lack of MAINTENANCE. Too many roads, bridges, police stations, health centers, schools, and other public edifices are dilapidated, mold infested and generally have become eyesores. People’s lives and health are at risk. Instead of being concerned about the commuters who often use this bridge, the DLP diehards want to create a false narrative about the bridge has been abandoned ? These reprobate prefer people to die or be seriously injured than to condemn the do nothing government for their negligence and delinquency . Politics is the opiate of the people.

But ignoring the infrastructure to the point where it falls to the ground is a false saving. It is no different from thinking you are saving money by not maintaining your car. Replacing infrastructure is umpteenth times more expensive than doing proper regular maintenance.

Have you noticed they fill potholes only when it gets to the size of a swimming pool?

In as much as I despise that group, I have little confidence in Linton and his group. They have a very thin bench and Linton himself does not inspire confidence.

That is the “workers” and labourites collision bridge.

A picture of the bridge in question would be more informative. These pictures leaves too much room for speculation. Is it the new bridge (St. Mary bridge) that was built when that road was rehabilitated? Is it the bridge just off the junction heading towards the Kalinago territory or the bridge just before you make a left to go up to where Andrel Laville use to live. DNO this article is misleading, not denying that there is damage to a bridge, but which bridge?

It is still on DNO where that liar Roosevelt told people he is going to build a duty free village in Dominica in order to attract the people of Guadeloupe and Martinique to Dominica to come and shop in his duty free village.

How can this man have money to build his duty free shopping village; nevertheless we see a bridge on which pedestrians and motor traffic travels falling apart, which will eventually kill people is left in such broken down state.

Roosevelt is a lucky man in that Dominicans sell out their legal and constitutional right by not suing government when they are damaged while traveling on Dominica roads, and in government buildings such as hospitals! When people enforce their rights and bring Roosevelt to his knees he will learn.

The Jamaican thug came to Dominica, broke the law, he was deported, he sued Roosevelt, collected millions, and run, Dominicans takes Roosevelt crap and sallow it, when will there be an uprising against Roosevelt?

This is another serious indictment on our GOVT.

The Meville Hall airport bridge is compromised and the Pagua Bridge . These are two bridges within 5-10mins driving distance from each other…..which is used on a daily bases from the airport to Roseau(The Capital).

    This GOVT must leave office!!!!!

My friends don’t worry. When the bridge falls into the water, we will borrow a Bailey bridge from St. Vincent. That is how this incompetent bunch operate – total lack of foresight.

Skerrit talks a good game, but the man and his cabinet are totally devoid of the skills necessary to govern a country.

Let’s do some arithmetic. Roseau bridge plus Layou valley bridge . 18 million plus 11 million niether was a priority. The total cost 29 million.

    • ?????????
      July 24, 2018

What??? None was a priority? What is wrong with you folks? Everything is negative. Yes of course all our bridges are priority. Do you think that bridges are done for nothing? Millions … and you get big headed. look at simple structures costing thousands of dollars far less for a bridge which to be built to stand against water pressure.

I pray that the divine provider provides for this bridge which is compromised. But first I want to extend my gratitude to Jehovah for making a reality to the 2 Million dollar bridge 29M. thank you Lord first and foremost and for bestowing the cash on our Government for development. Thanks for the donors .. May God bless them abundantly. thanks for all those who assisted us in cash, services or kind after hurricane Maria. I do appreciate your assistance and words cannot explain. Do not bother about those who only criticize but the greater part of us are grateful and we say a million times – Thank you!

For all the doubters, I passed on this bridge Sunday gone (twice) to and from the activity that was held at Caste Bruce. I observed it and stopped to complain to my partner. It is UNTRUE that THIS bridge was replaced and the road diverted. Good to know that it has reached the general public so action can be taken.

This administration needs to start being proactive instead of reactive. Stop waiting for things to fall before you repair them. They always talking about climate resilience but they don’t seem to be doing anything in the way of being disaster resilient. They wait for accidents to happen and people to die before they take a situation seriously. Look at how long they put that play school ramp by the Hillsborough bridge because they didn’t fix the river wall Erika damaged. They wasted time then look at what happened. Maria finished off what Erika started. Maria took a side of the bridge and it has yet to be repaired. The lazy bunch are saying to themselves “well it’s not an urgent matter because pedestrians have the other side still standing and it’s motorable so why worry about fixing it”? These fools don’t even worry about the traffic congestion it creates. What a country, what a leader, the laborats like it, labor ka travay. Wish the people of pagua all the safety in the world

Hey dog man, how are you doing today? Are you hungry and again in need of some dog chow? Well I’ll be glad to feed you some. You see the simple difference between the USA and Dominica is when a bridge gets damaged in America the same day the powers that be work speedily so normal service can be resumed but down here we are so over resilient that when our bridges fall (Hillsborough for example) it takes three years to forever to get it fixed. Wasn’t Erika in 2015? What has been done? Go chew on that you four legged animal

And by the way you said I cannot teach you anything, but I need to teach you how to spell: “recently” is spelled as I spell it in the quote, please take note of that and do not repeat the same error, but you do not know when you are spelling a word wrong, or when your English is not proper English, because you are a dunce you see!

ADMIN: We can inform you from own experience that the bridge was very much in use up to the time of this article. We have received no information from the authorities that this bridge has been condemned. In fact, this is the only bridge that services this specific area, no new bridge has been built.

i do apologize, i mistook the area for the bridge which serves at the junction to go to the carib reserve and marigot.
i do apologize for that error.

      • Daily commuter
        July 25, 2018

This bridge IS actually the one adjoining the Atkinson area with Hatton Garden (more commonly known as Pagua). From the intersection at Pagua, on coming from Marigot, you do a left and the bridge is in plain site in a few seconds. It is not to be confused with the one replaced in recent times along the Marigot/airport road.

I commute via this road twice a day on a daily basis and it is indeed severely compromised. We just pray that it doesn’t rain heavily overnight to avoid the complete break down of said bridge. If the bridge collapses then access to Antrizzle/Atkinson/Kalinago Territory will be cut off from this end.

Whilst I can’t speak for others, I don’t think the intention to share this story wass to cause any malice or ill-will, but to bring to the urgent attention of all authorities concerned, the dire need for immediate action.
