A new type of conference will be held on October 31 and one of its organizers said its purpose is to promote reflection as Dominica celebrates 40 years of Independence.
The first “Nature Isle Futures” conference will be held at the PSU Conference room on Valley Road.
“The purpose of the conference is to promote some reflection as we satiate on our ‘Sewo’ heritage diet,” Dr. Irving Pascal explained.
He said that 40 years is significant in the Judeo-Christian tradition and it speaks to self-examination.
“‘The unexamined life is not worth living'” preached our ancestors,” he stated. “So the Big Idea gives us some time to reflect on who we were in 78, who we are in 2018 and who we may become in 2058.”
Dr. Pascal said the conference will be inclusive and is a call for all Dominicans at home and abroad to dialogue.
“It is hoped that this inaugural activity will rekindle our all for each and each for all spirit, our reverence for our rivers, valleys hills and mountains,” he remarked.
At the event, Henry Kasate Shillingford will give a presentation titled “The Big Idea: Nature Island of the World in 20 years.”
Albert Bo Bannis will present on “The Techno-politics of the Nature Island of the World.”
There will also be group plenary sessions on the following:
1. Agriculture in the Nature Island of the World –Future perspective
2. The International Airport and Tourism in the Nature Island of the World.
3. Education for the Nature Island of the World.
4. Migration: The Role of the Diaspora and Implications for the Nature Island of the World
5. Political governance in the Nature Island of the World
6. Reestablishing Preventative Health Care in the Nature Isle of the world
7. Rethinking housing in the nature isle.
8. Formulae for a return to “the Isle of beauty, Isle of splendor” where CLEANLINESS is next to GODLINESS!
The event begins at 8:50 am with a Call to Order.
An entirely meaningful contribution if time will be taken to illustrate how one might transition from the current state of play to the 40-year vision, in terms of changes that will need to be made to existing structures, legislation, policies. Roadmaps to delivery are everything.
Can’t make heads or tails of this blog. Must be getting dense.
Broad range of topics for a one day conference. No focus and so the message will continue to get lost and the messengers/foot soldiers will continue to look like ….. disturbers!
Adult..I’m of the view that each group will be presented with a topic and reoirt back to the audience for feedback and added information. Recall if I’m right the results..findings…recommendations will be in the form of a document.

Wonderful initiative! All political parties should attend to get fresh ideas for their manifesto. Now that is a real doctor with a social care for our social ailments.
Friends, Dominicans, I just cannot believe that a conference of such magnitude, needed, overdue that we have people, I guess our own Dominicans giving thumbs down to a very thought provoking, engaging conference as this? What happen, you blind loyalists have Skerrit scared of such an important event? Why the thumbs down?
I know I am minding my Funky Business, but those people who took time to respond in the negative, I guess we can say these are blind boom-boom flies following Skerrit day and night blindly. So what, Our nature isle Domininca, does not deserve good quality challenges to remind us where we came from, where we are and where and how we move on? I am very saddened by these “No” responses.
Dr. Pascal, be advised, do not be deterred, you have been blessed by the High Almighty to challenge us with this consultation where it tell us where some of our people are. The conference will go on, it will be a success and well documented.

Marihuana is a stimulant, as is alcohol. Some people drink too much and others smoke too much pot .
What hell talk or conference? Too much damn talk man. What independence we have? Skerrit has the stupid country looking like a place where dead bones are buried or a place with skeletons. Dominica is lost man and coming to the damn place is like an Algebra. You can fly out from the US and arrive in any Caribbean islands, the same day, within 6 hrs, except Dominica that is actwo day trip and very expensive flights as though we behind God’s back. I am just fedup with all the talking and conferences and instead if getting better we dropping 5 years behind every damn year with Skerrit.
Very commendable infusion of bit of much needed intellectualism during the premiere sewo season of our national calendar. Hearts off to those bold enough to implement it.
A late suggestion for an added area of discussion or integration into the various topics of the agenda reads:
The Kalinago: Their future role in developing the Nature Isle of the World.
Let us not forget they predate us all here and since they have somehow managed to still be here their contributions cannot be discounted or seen to be discounted.

Very Interesting agenda for exploration. A very sober and noble approach to constructive engagement and nation building. . Since I cannot attend (out of state), will the recommendations for each segment on the agenda be made available publicly or otherwise?
This would help further the discussion among those who cannot at this time participate.
