IPO says investigation of PM Skerrit ongoing

The cover of the new IPO report

Dominica’s  Integrity Commission says an investigation into a complaint that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit had used his official influence as Chairman of Cabinet to secure concessions for a business concern in which he is alleged to hold ownership interest is ongoing.

The complaint is the third part of a three point allegation brought to the attention of the Commission by radio personality Lennox Linton.

The two first parts of the complaint which also suggest that the prime minister had breached certain provisions of the integrity in office act were rejected by the commission.

The Integrity Commission has just published its third annual report – the report was tabled in parliament by the Minister for Legal Affairs on February 16.

It says 96 per cent of persons in public life listed for the year under review filed financial declarations with the Commission by March 31, 2011.

That’s 152, out of a total of 159.

According to the Commission, this represents a remarkable improvement over the previous year’s performance of 66 per cent.

The Integrity Commission says in its report that it remained firm and even handed in its administration of the provisions of the Integrity in Office Act, despite the “strident, unreasonable and unrelenting criticisms leveled at the organization, (and) the deficiencies of the Act and serious staff constraints”.

That is a big improvement, but 96% still isn’t enough. We need and demand 100%.
These are the people put by our collective favor as the votes will have it to govern our country. That includes making and managing of our laws. If the deadline is set they should all keep to the deadline. It is their responsibility.

The truth will never be the truth unless it has gone to the other side. Lawlessness in Dominica will never be eliminated unless the opposition wins a court case…. until then Dominica will always be a lawless country. Can you all remember the Bugging allegation in the 1990s? from since that time, the court has not been just and it will never be just till the United Workers Party no longer exist in our political environment… Read the comments ppl, the only assumption you see written by those critics of the PM is “if he is found guilty” what about if he is found innocent? does that possibility exist as well?

I always say, if he had presented his documents he would have won me over and had my vote untillllll.

but same way warn my daughter about secretive men, and my son about secretive women, i must warn my voting hand about secretive politicians.

his case was his to prove. I guess the words “humility”, “transparency” and “accountability” is omitted rom the political dictionary.

how can you want to keep a secret from the same population who voted you into POWER!

Good on you, very well done. So while you are teaching your children to be honest you are not concerned about dishonesty in the wider society and especially by the leaders of the society. I have news for you my dear friend;Children are also influenced by what happens in the wider society.

DOES ANY OF THOSE RING A TRUE BELL TO YOUR CHARACTER? RETRIBUTION AND FORGIVENESS COMES FROM GOD ONLY AND NOT FROM US SINNERS.

ADMIN: Please people cut down on the all caps. Please read our disclaimer on all caps.

And who the hell are you to judge , is the only one who knows who are sinners and who not, some of you Dominicans too like to condone corruptions and injustice, according to you, let he who is without sin cast the first stone, we all are sinners, no one is perfect whoever Devoted Dominican you are

What is wrong with using caps DNO. It is not necessarily true that written in caps is a form of insult or rudeness. The content and obvious attack on Lennox would not be any different if written in lower case.

,tell me what next will be the next big headline in gouvernment

  22. tell us the truth
    March 2, 2012

I have a few questions here: 1. How long does it take to investigate things in a small island like DA? 2. What kind of evidence the IPO is looking for? 3.If it has to do with concession wouldn’t the customs have the available documents needed for a fair investigation? 4.If the concession was for those Villas, what about asking the police commissioner to tell us what he knows since he is from the same area that those villas are located? 5.Also, what does minister Austrie know about it since like the commissioner, he lives in that area and knows the history and real owner better than bubbles who forgot to speak the tuth?
    6. Are members of the IPO who are conducting the said investigation recieving a salary from the minister of finance?7.Or have they recieeved their fat “shut up” cheque just like the Roseau Pentecostal Church recieved their “Don’t asl, don’t tell” cheque?
    I am listening!!!

I have no trust and confidence in the reule of law in Dominica. It stinks! It’s like the country is lawless, until you steal a bread or a packet of crix biscuit.Mark you it’s still wrong to steal the bread and crix, but my point is the big time thieves and murderers are put on a pedestal, idolized, venerated, while the poor man is taken to the gutter. This is bad for any society, but this is Dominica.

Greater, more vile epithets and accusations were made against every do-gooder, in every society. Take Martin Luther King Jr., as an example. Fast forward to this day. The greatest nation on earth, the USA, with universal backing of the Congress, now sports an avante guarde monument to Martin King, one of the greatest rabble rousers and trouble makers in history!! Go figure.

HOW DO YOU EXPECT SKERRIT NOT TO BE ELECTED ?what kind of message did the uwp and the fp were sending with their 12 candidates each .there was 21 seats. the message was clear.WE DO NOT WANT THE VOTES OF ALL DOMINICANS SO WE ARE NOT ASKING.
THE LABOUR PARTY DID ALL IN THEIR POWER THAT THEY ASKED ALL DOMINICANS TO VOTE RED FOR NEXT LEVEL.WE CARE ABOUT YOU SO WE ARE ASKING AND WE HAVE A PLAN
NOW THE OPPOSITION FORCES ARE CALLING DOMINICANS SENSELESS.STUPID ,UNEDUCATED AND IGNORANT BECAUSE THEY VOTED THE LABOUR PARTY 18 TO 3
THEN LOOK AT THEIR RECKLESS BEHAVIOR FOR THE PAST YEAR .WELL THEY SURE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN NEXT TIME .THEY ARE NO CHALLENGE AT ALL AND WILL NEVER BE .

    • Truth Seeker
      March 3, 2012

And how do you measure “vast”? Just like us Dominicans, we speak in hyperbole, always making things look more than they really are. So the man must not have a home to live in? To my eyes, that is the only thing his detractors can factually point to belonging to Mr. Skeritt.
