It is now Douglas-Charles Airport

It is official.

The airport everyone knew as the Melville Hall Airport is now  the Douglas-Charles Airport.

The renaming ceremony took place on Monday afternoon.

The government said the airport was being renamed in recognition of two past prime ministers, Pierre Charles and Rosie Douglas.

The citation for the renaming of the airport said Douglas gave “heroic service to the people of Africa, the African Diaspora and the Commonwealth of Dominica.”

It said he “proposed practical solutions to the liberation of Dominica.”

“Rosie worked tirelessy to educate the people while at the same time listening to and learning from them,” the citation said. “The result was he gained the people’s love and admiration.”

It went on to say his selfless commitment to the struggle to transform Dominica is an example for all future political leaders.

Pierre Charles’ citation said he dedicated his life to the political independence of Dominica.

“And upon becoming prime minister of independent Dominica tackled the national, fiscal and ecomonic crisis of the first decade of the 20th century,” it said.

The citation said Charles’ leadership has brought praises on himself, his family, the people of Grand Bay and Dominica.

In his speech at the function, prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit, said both men gave their lives in the service of Dominica. He said they set Dominica on a path of recovery and are ‘undisputed role models’ for him and his cabinet.

Roosevelt Bertrand Douglas was the fifth prime minister of Dominica. He came into office on February 3, 2000, remaining in power until his sudden death on October 3, 200. He was prime minister for eight months.

He first became a member of parliament in 1985 and leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in 1992, after the death of Mike Douglas, his brother. He led the DLP to victory over the Edison James-led United Workers Party in January 2000. He later formed a coalition with the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP).

After his death he was succeeded by Pierre Charles, who was prime minister from 2000 to 2004. He became MP for Grand Bay in 1985 as an opposition parliamentarian with
the DLP, which was under the leadership of Mike Douglas. He maintained his seat in the 1990, 1995 and 2000 general elections. When the DLP formed the coalition government with the DFP he was made minister for communication and works.

He died suddenly on the evening of January 6, 2004.

The airport got its original name from General Sir Robert Melville, British Governor General of the Southern Caribbee Island Colony of which Dominica was a unit, according to a Facebook post by local historian, Dr. Lennox Honychurch.

He wrote that when the British took over Dominica in 1793, surveyors were sent to cut the island into lots for sale, with men in high positions grabbing the best bits of land.

Melville took the area where the airport is located to set up his sugar plantation and named the estate, Melville Hall, after himself.

The Melville family owned the land until 1860, according to Dr. Honychurch.

In the 1940’s when the British wanted to build an airport the area was chosen and the land was bought from the owners of Melville Hall Estate.

Construction of the airport began in 1957 under the DUPP administration of Frank Baron but it was opened in 1961 by chief minister, Edward Le Blanc, who came to power just a few months after it was completed.

Hence, the airport was named after the estate it was built on, according to Dr. Honychurch.

Skerrit said he is adamant that the island’s main airport not be named after an 18th century slave owner.

“For those who want our airport named after a slave owner, that is a matter for them,” he said. “It is long overdue that we have to honor our own. History will not be kind to those who decided to display their ingratitude to two men who served this country with distinction.”

The Fact you are a damn hypocrite.

When Francisco Telemaque wrote under the bishops message you wrote this “Francisco Telemaque is the devil himself. He pretends to be Mr. Goody Two Shoes but he is not. God knows what his lifestyle is like.
Francisco is a big-time hypocrite. He should keep his satanic views to himself and see about his soul that he might not perish eternally. One day he will reap what he sows and two-fold.”

Didn’t Francisco wrote as he feels and sees it? Isn’t this his prerogative? Did you allow him his rightful privilege? You telling people to live the Golden Rule, yet you fail to live it yourself. You are a witch of the highest order.(Dorival John).

Dorival that woman, that fake, that no name fictitious thing ” The Facts” I think that person is a raving lunatic, she is all over the place talking nonsense, she cannot write anything which makes sense, but what can be expected when she gets her education on Web Sites on the Internet. If read her recent comments to Dr. Sam Christian article Stay Well & Spakle, the subject is regarding Diabetes, and Hemoglobin A1c, read her comments and you will discover she does not know what she is talking about.

She also have another partner in crime against me, that one is Elizabeth Xavier, I know that personally, and I can tell you those two would destroy me if they counter me in crowded market place (dem two hate this boy here). I know what Elizabeth problem is; she vow to haunt me to the day she die and up to the time she is in her grave, I know but I am not talking.

Those are the two most evil women on the planet, Elizabeth is the devil mama; as for the Facts, when Judas dropped the thirty pieces of silver, he collected for selling out Jesus; she picked them up and ran!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  8. I renamed myself too
    October 28, 2014

As soon as the airport was renamed yesterday, I took the opportunity to rename myself as well. My new name is EO Leblanc laborite. since in the days of Leblanc up to yesterday I was a laborite. Now I am a Leblanc laborite. I loved both Rosie Douglas and pierre Charles, since they both stood up for the ideas and visions of EO leblanc and the good DLP, However, Skerrit’s version of DLP is foreign to us and I cannot take his nonsense anymore. Leblanc, Rosie, and Peirre were all people uniters and bridge builders, while skerit is clearly a people divider and bridge destroyer for political gain. If Skerrit really wanted to rename the airport and honor the works of “Labour”, he would have named it after EO Leblanc, since according to the photo above, it was Le Blanc that opened it in 1961. While I loved both Rosie and Pierro, the truth of the matter is in their short time in office they did not even have time to change a toilet. Skerrit did not name it after Le Blanc because he knows he still has the majority of us under his wings, while significant Rosie and pierro laborites have switched to UWP. I will be joining them come next election.

And whats UP with dem petty 2×4 poster pictures. They should be practically engulfing the entire steel frame.

I listen to the PM say he renaming the airport partly because we don’t want to have a slave owner (Melville) name still alive, but isn’t the river and the land surrounding the airport still have that name?

  14. Francisco Telemaque
    October 28, 2014

Although I am totally against the changing of the name of the airport, if I had a choice in the matter, I would have named it Edward Oliver Leblanc Airport, since Leblanc has done more to enhance the life and living conditions of our people while serving yet under the colonial rule and power!

Someone talked about Patrick John fought for Dominica’s Independent, that far from the truth, and the airport should be named after him, that theory I would not support either. In any event what Skerrit has don in this case is another disgraceful display of arrogance. When we build monuments after people it should be because they are deserving, do to their contribution to the country, and changes they brought about which made a difference in the life of the citizens of the country.

Roosevelt Douglas, and Pierre Charles contributed nothing significant that had any effect on the life of a single Dominica, Marxism was Charles trait, he believed in communism, we need to be reminded of that. Douglas greatest accomplishment as he boasted, when he said “the closest I ever came to holding a job was when I ran the terrorist training camp in Libya.” I believe him, he was my friend, and let me emphasize, that when he would be traveling through, or visiting Antigua, he would stop and visit the Late Time Hector, at Hector’s mother house on New Gate Street.

and when two communist try to out talk the other people like me heard lots of things, I will not elaborate only I will say this kid, former Antiguan born wife is the nice of Tim’s mother, and so whereas Tim equaled Rosie ideologies. Tim had a job as Principal of Hill Secondary School, Roosevelt Douglas had none, except for what he contends he did in Libya. Charles I believe taught school at one time, I am not sure; nevertheless, there is nothing significant in their background, nor have they contributed anything to our nation which earns them the right to have any part, or thing in the country named after them.

I suppose Skerrit’s purpose is to screw up Dominica and write the names of all the players of the Labor Party, on every obelisk, every high rock in Dominica that is his intention and wish one day the Labor Party will build an obelisk on (Devils Mountain) translate that into patios; with his name written on it, as a matter of fact he once said he was going to change the from devils mountain to something, perhaps that is in preparation for his place in history.

Now Proud Dominican, you are elated that Skerrit has attempted to rewrite our nations history by demolishing a historic name,. I ask you what benefit is the name Douglas-Charles going to bring to Dominica, do you know that LIAT is no longer be flying into Douglas-Charles as of the day Skerrit change it from Melville Hall this.

Let him tell the nation why!

DNO, I am a proud laborite but I don’t support what I am seeing and that may very well cause me to switch my vote. We are celebrating our 36th anniversary of independence and to me, we need to be united if we are going to succeed even if we disagree on religion, politics and other issues. As a laborite that voted and supported both late Pm’s and voted Mr Skerrit in 2005 and 2009, what he just did will just keep our country further apart instead of drawing us closer. In the first place why choose the first day of Creole in the park to rally thousands to rename the airport on the last day of night landing? Wouldn’t it be better for the country to see the entire cabinet and opposition together at the CITP? Whether we hate Lennox and his UWP team or not, their presence at the CITP was very commendable. If what Skerrit did was not bad enough, then just take a look at the pictures above and you will see how it is spelt “DIVIDED WE FALL.” Why should everyone be dressed in RED for this occasion on this day of our celebration? We cannot put politics before country my friends. As bad as the timing of the event was, if everyone was asked to dress like Mrs. Savarin, in her national outfit, that would make a bad thing look good; but to see everyone dressed in red sure made a damn bad thing look really bad and ugly. I believe they just pushed me out of their nonsense because the Rosie and Piero that I knew sure would not have done this.

  23. October 28, 2014

Ok the siwo done, stomach full. Truthfully speaking why rename an airport which hardly meets IATA standards, and there are discussions for building an international airport on an alternative site. There isn’t any significant milestone achieved at the Melville hall airport to have warranted such gross expenditure for a Labour party fete. There are unpaid workers whose wondering where their next meal coming from, there are student still waiting for government to fulfilled the financial obligation
In order to get their certificates. Yet still money spending for eats and drinks to have a good time when there are more pertinent issues to address. All in the name of Rosie a man that would give his last dollar for a man to buy a bread. This Contradicts the very essence of Rosie philosophy

    • October 28, 2014

The DLP should honor Mr. Douglas and Mr. Pierre Charles by living up to these men ideas, teaching, principlesand most importantly their concept of people first instead of party politics and self interest.

    • October 28, 2014

Ofcourse the airport meets IATA standards. If it dosen’t then no Airline even LIAT would not fly into Dominica. What are ou saying are you dumb? Youmust be CLEARLY a UWP person. Small minded, go and read a book.

You are so typical of the labour majee. Belti Bef did not say that Melville Hall does not meet IATA standards. Read carefully, he said “HARDLY meets IATA standard” but of course, in typical party fashion you are obliged to give a twist to the truth. May God help you.

Skerritt and his DLP Gov’t try a ting. Trying again and again and again to fool the people.

Let me bring my brothers and sisters back to memory lane. Who gave Pierre Charles more stress when he was PM? Remember who secretly travelled to Barbados to meet with people from Mainland China, even when Dominica had relations with Taiwan?

Remember what took place soon after Pierro’s death? Ask Bro. O !!!!!!!!!!! Who reminded us that when Pierro put out his hand for help, where were they? (the cabal?)

We remember at the back of Pierre (PM), Skerrit disrespected his own Leader and did something outrageous. Who knows what happened, what was talked about at that meeting and the subsequent acts as a result of those clandestine meetings. Talk of betrayal for your money. Isn’t that a criminal act?

The cabal is hoping to lure back in those Labourites who are slowly coming to the realization that Skeriit has turned the ideals of Rosie and Pierro upside down and in desperation trying a ting.

You establish relations with Morocco oui, Skerro? Did you ask Pierro or Rosie for an opinion? What about our passports in the hands of Mafia? Would Rosie or Pierro behave so? Where’s your conscience, nuh?

The cabal will not Stop at fooling the people again and again. Dominicans why allow yourselves to be fooled again and again and again?

Those who go to sleep everynight and wish that thatbythe time they wake up next day, there will be some cataclysmic development – wailing and nashing of teeth in Dominica, Take this one. Four planes landedand took off – no problems Eddo. Isn’t that good for Dominica? But then I recall Eddo describing the Melville Hall Airport upgrade as “spinning top in mud”.

We talk about waste of expenditure? here are a few other examples. The fountain on the Bayfront, the Riverside Place, the January 1st 2000 “Sunrise Festival”, the Wotten Waven Trafalgar Road contract fiasco. If this activity (renaming themain airport here after two fallen PM’s who worked tirelessly to develop Dominica) is a waste of scarce resources, then the expenditures mentioned above back in the period 1995-2000 cannot be money well spent. Remember the “sunrise festival” took place during the time when we were borrowing money to pay for goods services – salaries. It took place at a time when the merchants could not be paid with millions of dollars worth of checks in the Treasury and cannot be paid; Social security not receiving a cent of payments from government, not even the employee’s own contribution. Yes, a wrong today could not have been right yesterday and vice versa. Imagine if that activity was held on a Sunday, away form Creole in the Park and a not so tired people. Remember many just came form three straight nights of festivities and catering services.

Oh how cynical of the P.M. to highlight Rosie’s support for the African people when he himself dismissed the struggle of our people in the W. Sahara for independence with the stroke of the pen for a few baubles from the king of Morocco and and unfinished hotel at the Cabrits.
If we had to rename Melville Hall, why not give it a Kalinago name? It is about time we start recognizing the original natives of our country.

Why is so much money being put into a structure that has no relevance. Hundreds of Thousands of dollars spent to lenghten the strip and lighst put and Dominicans still do not have 24/7 airport access from connecting airports.

When will Dominicans stop this “childish” politics and look at the issues. Dominica does not belong to any one political party or person!!!!!

Maybe not in my lifetime, but I am hopeful, just as the rainbow encompasses many different colors to become somethig beautiful, maybe one day the Red, Blue, Green parties will all work together for the betterment of the Country!!!!

Well Done! We can relate to the name change, and it is meaningful to Dominica,. Now that is change we can believe in.

The Douglas Charles Airport in Dominica, we better get use to it. I wonder whether those who do not like the new name, will travel only at the Canefield Airport.

Parry, I would advise the Prime Minister to deny or confirm the allegations that approximately $260,000 were spent on the renaming of the Melville Hall Airport. He should also advise the people of Dominica with reference to his plans for the building of an International Airport. The people would like to know the merit of spending millions of dollars for night landing and renaming of an airport which is likely to be discarded within the next ten years.

Its great to see that finally Dominica got rid of signs of colonialism and its great that now time came to ‘honor our owns’
However, it creates a tiny problem which is a bit difficult to overcome: majority of the names and places in Dominica are French and English origin and I fancy to what is going to be next logical move: to rename Portsmouth, get finally rid of Belfast estate name…maybe it makes sense to censor everything which reminds Europe, cancel English and rename Dominica into something different?
Maybe it even makes a sense to spent 10-15 millions and work out a comprehensive name change for everything: Dominica will become Waitukubuli, Great George street will become Mandella avenue, DLP and UWP should be renamed also as their origins bear a mark of oppressors…it will be just fantastic! CNN will make a report, hashtag #Waitukubuli will become popular etc

But something telling me that its all this is just a big farce: Zaire became Republic of Congo, Burma – Myanmar, Rhodesia – Zimbabwe etc etc…and nothing really changed. New names do not bring changes into economy…ignorance, poverty, inequality and other evils plague Dominica won’t go away…Melville Hall will remain the same small, awkward and badly connected airport on the middle of nowhere.. whatever you name it Douglas-Charles or Obama-Mandella etc

  63. The Facts
    October 27, 2014

All appeared to have gone smoothly. The plane did not fall from the sky.
The only statement I object to is “African Diaspora”. It is well known that the ancestors of Dominicans are not solely African. Are you ignoring that? Surely, it should not be ignored.
We are not full-fledged Africans. The majority of us have never ever gone to Africa and have no intentions of visiting there. The culture of the African people is different to the culture of Dominica. They are an entirely different set of people. Therefore, why this “Africa”?
I knew Rosie was very much on the African side, wanting to be considered as an African. However, Rosie’s surname is “Douglas” and this is a British name. It cannot be changed.
Rosie, I hope you are enjoying God’s Beatific Vision. If you can see me you know me. In Heaven there is no color preference or reference or to a country. God does not care too hoots about that. It is insignificant in his eyes.
I can never be African and fully African for this is only on one side of my family. No one can take that away from me and from other Dominicans. Likewise, I cannot be fully the other race of my ancestors on one side of my family. Personally, I want to be regarded as both my ancestors of different race.
I am always proud to state that I am of two different races from different countries and yes, on one side of my family, my ancestors were slave masters. This is not my fault. When the opportunity presents itself I do state this but with no bitterness. Thank God as time progressed slavery was abolished.
The pigmentation of my immediate family, aunts, uncles and cousins depict that we are of two different heritage. You know, this is why I have no prejudice whatsoever against anyone of a different color or country and relate very well to everyone of any nationality and race. Simply live a law-abiding life Even then I accord everyone their due rights, respect and dignity as I expect of them. This is part of my nurturing.
My ancestors are my heritage. Whatever our pigmentation and both ancestors, we cannot change it which is history. I have no problem about that.
I reiterate I will never regard myself as an African or solely of the African race. I want no one to make that mistake of making the connotation that I am an African or any member of my family. We like to be known as people of two different races. I expect that there are some Dominicans who may be of the identical opinion.

Why Roosevelt Skerrit continues to abuse those poor labourites? This is political abuse and can be compared to being a pedophile. This is worse than child sexual abuse.
In September he brought them to Lagon to listen to the name of Lennox Linton for more than 1000 times, now he brings them to Marigot at a the treasury’s expense of $260,000.00.
Skerrit has no moral authority to speak about Pierre Charles and Roosie Douglas, to make it worse Krazy Tee provides the sound system.
    I rest my case.

  65. October 27, 2014

Our Lord and Savior, The Grand Master and Anointed One, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, has done it AGAIN! No matter how hard his enemies try, they just cannot stop this Bright Morning Star from shining! Tonight, the 27th of October, in the year of our Lord, 2014, has been a momentous occasion as we shed the name of our former slave master from one of our major institutions and rightfully renamed it in honor of two of our brightest and our best!
No who can question the wisdom and patriotism of this great Christ-Like Prime Minister? There is no mortal in Dominica who can stand in His shoes! Dr. Skerrit, is surely deserving of all the accolades, respect, admiration, praise and worship that he receives. The man has a heart of a saint! His presence is so awe-inspiring and refreshing!
This great King of Dominica made history in Dominica again and His enemies are trembling with fear and frustration. They are seeing that their efforts to stop him are useless! He just gets better and better! It was a joy to witness the thousands in attendance all decked out in their loyal red. I personally saw tears in the eyes of many as they witnessed our Great God-King and Savior in his Divine Glory. Dr. Skerrit, so distinguished, poised, handsome, immaculately dressed and humble. His warm smile and graceful movements assured each and everyone in attendance that they were in the presence of a greatness far beyond the physical realm.
So, in closing, I must ask: what more does the Great Prime Minister have to do to let these disenchanted people on the other side see that his leadership is not of this earth but ordained by God??? These envious, grudgeful, ungrateful and wicked people cannot be pleased. They would rather crucify Christ than allow him to become an icon. Yet, Dr. Skerrit is already an icon and He continues to get recognition all over the world.
So…all who hate him and fight against him without cause will be consumed by their own evil deeds and thoughts. In the meantime, the Supreme Leader will continue to take Dominica to the next level and beyond! Thank You. :-P

Why would a government who owes Public Works Corporation and as a result staff has not been paid almost three fort nights and two months salary spend in excess of $259,000 to just change the name of an airport? Why would Dominicans participate in such an event knowing all this information and not ask the government to do the right thing? Are we less caring about our fellowmen? I say anyone who knowingly gives his brother a stone who is hungry when he has the food he seeks has done a great wrong. I am of the belief that those who participate in this event are equally culpable. The food and music tomorrow God willing will not fill your stomach and the music will sound like the pain your brothers and sisters endure who are being treated unfairly. It may not seem important now because you have not been affected, but there will come a time when it will be at each of us doorstep who ignore the pain of their brothers and sisters. I needed to add this piece. Imagine for one minute a person who believes that he is so intelligent that he gives PWC a date in August to meet to discuss payment and other issues on the day everyone goes to the beach to have some fun in the sun. Now, imagine he does not reschedule even he realize it coincides with the aforementioned national holiday. Now imagine on the first day of CITP he schedule the renaming of the Melville Hall Airport to Douglas-Charles and despite LIME arrangement to give a fraction of the earnings on every ticket to the Forestry Division for the upkeep of the Gardens, he goes ahead with his plans and reduce the attendance of CITP. Now imagine a person who is so self absorbed and need all the attention he can muster that his name included on the plaque with the inscription of both past PM instead of using an inclusiveness of from “The Government of Dominica”. Finally, the self absorbed PM made certain that he announced that an international airport MOU was signed which in effect will mean in the not to distant future this Douglas-Charles Airport will not be used as the main airport. Now, how would any clear thinking Dominican interpret this announcement? Let’s get real now, in my humble opinion the naming of the soon to be obsolete airport Douglas-Charles is reflective of how this present PM thinks of the two former PM and he used the stage with their family in attendance to show how boldface he is to insult their intelligence and no man can back. Now this is “GANGSTAR!”

      • October 28, 2014

Thumbs up #4 is mine to you, but I still do not agree with your statement here: “Christianity is Our Lord’s religion”

Yes! It is factual that Jesus established His Church on Earth, by the Power of Holy Spirit, starting on the Day of Pentecost–10 days after His ascension into Heaven.

The apostle Luke wrote “And the disciples were called Christians at Antioch–Acts 11: 26, hence a Christian ought to think of himself/herself as a disciple of Jesus Christ, grounded in the works of Love. through a mind in its renewing process

And so, as Christians we are people maintaining a personal or intimate relationship with God–through worship and fellowship, in the name of Jesus Christ

The Jews of ancient days did not accept Jesus, because He wouldn’t dwell or follow in their religious activities–including the keeping of the Sabbath Day–and all the other self righteous activities which they maintained. that was the reason they called for His crucifixion.

The apostle John tells us the He (Jesus) came to His own but His own did not accept Him–Christianity demands the attitude and conducts of Spirit and Truth, through faith, not of works; that was what Jesus wanted the people to learn about

Christianity is not a religion, for religion is based on the wisdom and philosophy of man. which has nothing to do with knowledge of God through Jesus Christ. Take it or leave it!

      • !
        October 28, 2014

What he/she meant the institution of religion, as these institutions are seen as another vice to keep the people down. Sociologists like Carl Marx have expressed this in their studies. A lot of people like myself do not subscribe to churches and organised religious institutions like the Vatican and evangelical ministries. Non the less you seem rather irate and took offense for yourself, stating blasphemy etc. like how the Spanish inquisition would do. Take note that IT IS BETTER TO KNOW THAN TO BELIEVE/HAVE BLIND FAITH. Right now look at the state of the world and the kinds of wars we have based on religion. Muslim who read the Quoran against Christians who read the Bible. The Quoran is the first set of books from the Bible. Locally we have different denominations being prejudice against each other (catholic vs protestant churches or vice versa) but is same bible they both read. all religion is a farce. Look up religion and Sun worship on youtube but try not to get so mad about religion that your head pops.

Now that he’s dead, and can cause no more trouble, Nelson Mandela is being mourned across the ideological spectrum as a saint. But not long ago, in Washington’s highest circles, he was considered an enemy of the United States. Unless we remember why, we won’t truly honor his legacy

DNO, I want to sing this song in honor of these two legends. I put out the lyrics so other true laborites like my friend and nephew of Rosie, who succeeded him in cabinet could help me sing:

    “Who the cap fits”

Man to man is so unjust, children:
Ya don’t know who to trust.
Your worst enemy could be your best friend,
And your best friend your worse enemy.

Some will eat and drink with you,
Then behind them su-su ‘pon you.
Only your friend know your secrets,
So only he could reveal it.
And who the cap fit, let them wear it!
Who the cap fit, let them wear it!
    Said I throw me corn, me no call no fowl;
    I saying, “Cook-cook-cook, cluk-cluk-cluk.”

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now,
Then behind they try to eliminate you.
    But who Jah bless, no one curse;
Thank God, we’re past the worse.
    Hypocrites and parasites
Will come up and take a bite.
And if your night should turn to day,
A lot of people would run away.
And who the stock fit let them wear it!
Who the (cap fit) let them (wear it)!

And then a-gonna throw me corn,
And then a-gonna call no fowl,
    And then a-gonna “Cook-cook-cook, cluk-cluk-cluk.”

That airport should have been renamed years ago. We are free and no slave master should be in our history in such an important part of our daily life, our only port of air entry. I am not a fan of the PM but one thing i must say about him is he don’t care who get upset when it comes to taking care of his people.

But this renaming is going to have no real significance.
In twenty years when the new generation is in the limelight, the airport’s name sadly will not ‘ring a bell’. Folks will be asking – ‘Who is Douglas Charles?’ …. a brother of Mamo?
Had He named it the Roosevelt Douglas and Pierre Charles Airport, do you realize the difference that would make?
      ………..Just saying…..

        @NYPD October 27, 2014

The name would be too long, with first names mentioned. And by the way, until I read a line of history from Lennox Honeychurch on face book, I did not know the reason for the name “Melville Hall Airport” either; and that was just last week. And yet I was already 5 years old when the airport began its function. I ain’t saying no more nah!

NYPD I would suggest that you think again because we are under and lead by a slave master , but some Dominicans just cannot think for themselves and that’s why Skerrit uses the people like you and gets away with because they keep their mouth shot.

Wow more development means more things to be named after. Fewer developments then we have to share accolations.

This is nothing to shout about, it’s not a International Airport this is slap in the face for the two past leaders..

what i dislike about dominicans are how low their stakes are, whereby bros and sis in the islands think bigger wiser and better Dominicans tread along a path with isn’t classy…

this is just a ole basic setting, it’s cozy and can’t handle larger traffic…..

seeing how Roise was a international man around the globe to name a outdated out of design type structure after these two men is a thumps down….

dominicans will continue gravel low score low and headline the Poorest ranking in the eastern caribbean….

the dominican mindset is highly unable to think bigger they get excited by small ideals…..

the covering media person on DBS acts too much as a child on air, sounds way to petty giggling for silly things….

just way too small minded a society, way too cheap..

they are unable to attract investors based on their dim outlook of things…just way to foolish is dominica..

Hush, hush, little baby please don’t cry, Skerro is going to buy you a mocking bird. Sir, if my memory serves me right you had the opportunity to do the thing that you are presently gripping about. Na, Na, Na I cannot hear you. Again, you were proven wrong the disaster didn’t happen.

The change was quick. If the airport is in Dominica, why should it not still be DOM?

smarty the airport name has changed, not the country name, the code remains the same, because the airport is still in Dominica or maybe you have plans of moving the airport to some other country.

As I explained earlier this is going to be a real headache. DDC (Dominica Douglas Charles) for instance is already used by Dodge City in the U.S.A. I don’t think this whole name change thing was thought out properly.

i guess the renaming of this airport signifies the demise of the idea of an international airport smh. #change
