Junior Chamber International (JCI) has been re-established in Dominica with close to 30 members pledging to create positive change in their communities.

After being non-existent for several years, JCI Dominica installed a new executive on 17 September, led by President Calvia Timothy.

Following the swearing in, the new President vowed to focus on growth and development of members, stability of the organization and to take on meaningful projects that will touch lives.

Timothy said; “During this year, we will embark on projects like “touch my life” foundation where we as Jaycees will identify families, schools, villages or communities where there is a need to touch a life…We will continue to touch lives through Back to school effort and our own Jaycees ‘Meals on Wheels’ where we provide warm meals to different people who may be homeless or in need of food. We will continue on our extraordinary drive to foster our “Walk for Lupus”. Recently we lost one of our past but very active prospective members of JCI Dominica to lupus, whom we will honor.”

In his feature address, Former President of Dominica Mr. Eluid Williams urged the new leaders to remain relevant to society and utilize ICT tools to adjust to the changing environment.

Vice President of JCI West Indies Shenella Govia encouraged members of JCI Dominica to press on even when challenges seem too much to bare, as the “challenges will transform them and the organization into a positive one.”

The new JCI Dominica executive comprises: President, Calvia Timothy, Executive Vice President James Rodney, Local Vice Presidents Tyrella Alexander and Pheona Xavier, Secretary General Lien Philogene Norville and Treasurer, Shonna Harris.

Five members were appointed to assist the new executive in leading the new JCI Dominica: Legal Counsel, Kendra Stephen, Public Relations Officer, Abigail Christopher, Protocal Officer Meritta Hyancith, Assistant Secretary/ Treasurer Shieka Peltier and Training Officer Natasha Nation.

Good luck JCI Members. It’s always refreshing to see optimistic citizens like all of you helping to motivate and help others in the community. Volunteer work can be challenging but inspirational and meaningful. Welcome back Jaycees.
