UPDATE: Jeff Joseph to be laid to rest on Saturday

Jeff Joseph will be laid to rest in his home community of St. Joseph this Saturday, government has revealed.

The funeral service will begin at 2: 30 p.m. following viewing of Joseph’s body at 2 p.m., Cabinet Secretary Felix Gregoire said.

Government has declared a National Day of Mourning for the cadence legend on Saturday and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast on all public buildings.

Joseph has been described as a Goodwill Ambassador for Dominica and government has called on fans overseas to join Dominica in observing the National Day of Mourning in his honour.

Some fans of Joseph had been asking for his funeral service to be held at Windsor Park Stadium.

Public viewing of the body shall be from 12:00 noon to 2:15 p.m at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.

The late Jeff Jo will be buried at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery.

All official mourners are requested to be in their seats no later than 2:15 pm.

Jeff Jo died at the La Manard Hospital in Martinique last week Wednesday after two major surgeries.

Radio bush say: the same people that doe like to support thier own now want to have big funeral for the man. so say radio bush. However, in all due respects, i think the family should not only think of the immediate family but all the people who Jeff touched. All his padners in Guadeloupe that coming down, yes, he was down to earth and could pull up on teh block and he could also play internationally and be respected. A massive event to pay tribute should be held in the stadium with songs ect ect and then a major motorcade, then the burial. Balance the reasoning of each side. the man die already, let us lay him in the honorable way he should be laid. family please reconsider and state, please include the family in your plans. PEACE!

The Governement suggested a national funeral service in the national stadium with the burial taking place in St.Joseph.

The family insisted that the body must pass through the Catholic Church and given the full Catholic burial rites as Jeff was a Catholic and the family are staunch Catholics.

Although the Government is giving an Official Funeral the wishes and dictates of the family must be respected at all times.

The Official Funeral Mass will take place in the St. Joseph Catholic Church as per the wishes of the Family.

i think the funeral service should be held at Windsor Park Stadium you got all this people coming from Guadeloupe and Martinique they will just walk to the Stadium.this is a safety issue and i think the govt should have put there foot down!look at the photos when he came home there was no space in the street

I agree with jeff’s family, have his funeral in st joe.Jeff was not from roseau, and the revenue that’s gonna come out of this should be st joe’s not roseau. My advice to those concerned get into st joe early and secure ur spot.Private vehicles should be restricted from the village on that day(except for gov personnel.Let those who want to attend catch public transport into st joe.The mass can be an open air mass knowing the church too small.Being inside the church or outside shouldn’t make a difference.Today is tuesday enough time for st joe people and gov officialls to make this even a memorable one right in st joe. When Pierre charles died his funeral was in grandbay not roseau. An grandbay didn’t have no stadium. For those attending remember to walk with ur umbrella cause it might rain.

I think they should make the service on Friday at the stadium and berried him on saturday as plan, because there is not enought packing space in St.Joseph for every body who want to attend the service

WHAT WAS HE ? A MAN OR A god STUPESSSSSSSSSSSSS FUNERAL IN STADIUM WHAT??????????????????, I JUST PRAY THAT HE AMDE IT RIGHT WITH HIS MAKER THATS ALL I CARE HIS BODY HAS NO SIGNIFICANCE, HIS SOUL IS WHAT MATTERS .

A funeral should be something of peace and quiet upon which you should reflect on the life of the deceased but instead the government it seems want it to be some kind of fan-fair event and for obvious reasons. If we truly love the brother then there is no reason why his funeral cannot be attended at his birth place. If you want to talk about public convinience then do as we have always done when big events are held outside of establishe facilities. USE PORTABLES

  25. November 29, 2011

they should have done that in the stadium instead but they can bury the body in the st joseph cemetry . :(

WHERE IN ST. JOSPEH WILL THE FUNERAL RITE TAKE PLACE, FELIX GREGOIRE? ON THE PLAYING FIELD? IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH? WHERE?

  28. DOMINICA
    November 29, 2011

Due to all respect to the St. Joseph, the stadium would be a beeter place for the funeral and the ntake the body to St.Joseph for burial.

I know the St. Joseph community want every for Jeff to be done there but common sense should prevail.

the dignetaries will be outside because there is no way the relatives will be outside of the church.

even if it is the park it will not accommodate the crowd.

    NO THINKING

The decision where Jeff Joseph is laid to rest is up to his family. The wishes of the family (unless the deceased left specific instructions about his arrangements) trumps everything else. Let’s not turn the man’s funeral into a circus. He was a son and a brother.

its a state funeral doom doom, family has no say

      • November 29, 2011

The deceased family have all the say and should honour Jeff Joseph wishes and it doesnt matter what the GOVT have to say they dont trump the family in any way possible please people dont mock the dead instead honour him in peace.
The GOVT want to have a memoral service in his honour they can at the stadum but the private laying of JEFF’s body belong only to his family and close friends they should stand firm dont allow any one to dictate to them and if members of the GOVT did not consult the family before making the announcement they were wrong but of cause we speaking of individuals that do whatever they wish regardless of the consequences I would hate to see JEFF’S memories be marked with controvercy let us respect his wishes and that of his family please dont turn it into a political sham.
