Job of Commonwealth Secretary General is not about politics – Baroness Scotland

Scotland said she is not involved in party politics
Scotland said she is not involved in party politics

Baroness Patricia Scotland has made it clear that in her job as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, she is no way involved in party politics.

Scotland was in Dominica last week to launch a project for the rehabilitation of the Old Library Building located on Victoria Street, Roseau for the establishment of a ‘Dominica Disaster Resource Center.’

“This is not a political post, this is about making the Commonwealth and that is the more than 2-billion individuals who are citizens,” she told state-owned DBS Radio. “This is about making all of them come together in partnership and I am sad if people want to make this a party political issue. I am sure most people won’t because I am not in there for politics, this is not about local politics. The role I have taken up is a role for all 53 Commonwealth nations.”

Scotland, who formally took up the job as Secretary General last week, said that she loves Dominica and is proud to be a Dominican.

She added, however, “I know that from today I no longer belong just to Dominica, I belong to 53 countries and I have to treat them all fairly without fear or favour, doesn’t matter their politics, their race, their religion, their sex, their gender, their orientation.”

According to Scotland, each citizen of the Commonwealth demands from her the same quality of service.

“So if there are people who want to involve this issue into a local party political matter, of course, I can’t say anything about that, all I need to say is the people of Dominica that’s not what my day job is going to be,” she remarked. “I am afraid my concentration has to be on all of us and all of us means ‘all of us’ not just some of us.”

You’re proudly divorcing yourself from petty politics, but you should have realized that telling your fellow Dominicans who disagree with the current Prime Minister to “Suck Salt” is unbecoming of your title and standing in your current position.
Your words and statements created that current atmosphere that you so despise. You must blame no one but yourself.

All those unpatriotic HATERS who wishes to see the demise of our beloved country should all go and suck salt. Anything that is good for our country is being thronged upon as bad. Dominicans never want good for their very own. All of them still want to see an Antiguan Ronald Saunders get the position. They’re not HATERS they’re Wicked people meaning nothing good will come to Dominica. It is observed that Dominicans love to see other countries thrive but not their own. They love to control but i’m soo glad that my PM is strong, GOD place him there he will not move.

Give them terms to govern. This divides the people look at Dominicans, their Bibles are now politics, they even pray to Lennox every morning.

What about the Laborite who worship SKERRIT and call him GOD. Nothing wrong in praying for someone, but calling a sinner GOD, where it is written that there is NO other God besides God The Heavenly One. Politics is runn7ng Dominica to the ground, the very same way Skerrit is bleeding Dominica together with his cronies selling Dominica Passport and nothing is being done with the millions they are receiving from the sale of Dominica, take a look at the roads on the island, the hospitals, the farmers, civil servant, the public work workers, those who are not sucking up to SKERRIT etc, the same skerrit who told us to go to hell, while he is sending us to hell, he is making his fortune millions on Madam Dominique, and people like you condoning his corruption, no forgetting Patricia Scotland is following her Master Skerrit’s footsteps in disrespecting us. I am very sorry Baroness Scotland but you and the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Hon. R Skerrit, have brought the office of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth into ill-repute. It started with both of your adamant to defy CARICOM and then you came to Dominica and made it political by participating in local politics with the Prime Minister and telling the people of Dominica to go suck salt! Really, Baroness Scotland, where does someone who aspires to represent “all of us” find such expressions in their thoughts and deeds? As a friend and colleague you have left me so extremely disappointed in you! I stood up for you when others attempted to taint you with your lapse of judgement in two past personal and judicious matters. However this entire episode of you running for Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, from your campaign and nomination to your election and insult to Dominicans who may not agree with the Prime Minister, have left me with no confidence in you!

You should be ashamed of yourself, I don’t think you’re a Dominican. All the other candidates should read their biography for you and see who is best suited for the job. I’m sure you’re living in someone elses country still calling yourself Dominican. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. It’s time for our people to rise where they are and make Dominica be known.

Baroness, you said that those in Dominica, a Democratic country who do not support the Prime Minister should be discriminated against. You made this statement after you were elected Secretary General designate of the Commonwealth. You are on record advocating suppression of those in opposition to the ruling government in Dominica. I hope the other countries in the Commonwealth take note of this utterance and keep a close check on you and your utterances and behavior in other Commonwealth countries as well, seeing that you espoused those views in the country of your birth.

        I agree, Just me

We are all aware that the job of the Secretary General should be far removed from local politics, that is why you erred, Madame Baroness by making that silly suce sel comment. It was just reckless and so you spoilt your chances at making your critics look bad upon your win.

Not sure if you can ever redeem yourself. You should have remained a cut above as I thought you were before that comment. You are still a brilliant choice but went down a notch with that behaviour, notwithstanding your humanity. De leader of de DLP did not seek an audience from we the people to nominate you as Secretary general.
Caricom could not come to an agreement on a single candidate .
An electoral process of voting got you into the office you now boast of.
Your record in civil affairs across the UK smells like politics.

    I never expected anything more.
None of this comes as a surprise.
I was waiting for you to set the record straight.
I suppose the disaster office story going out right at the time you taking office is not political as well.

All you really think everybody out there dotish sucking salt eh!!

Just because you are a born Dominican we shouldn’t expect you to use your office to add to our development directly.
I understand you have your job and it’s not about babysitting when we have skerrit as our leader.

    GOT SALT?

    • Face the Facts
      April 4, 2016

I had not heard this word since I lived in D/ca, probably as a child/student. Do you not know that “suck salt” are mere words, a figure of speech that even Dominicans have used and may very well still be using it? What is so surprising about it? Why make an issue out of it?
I could tell someone that “with a smile :) ” and still be friendly and peaceful.
A person in a position would never have insulted Dominicans. OK! She knows better than that. Some of you have misinterpreted what she said and turned it into something bad. It depends on the mentality.
Those of you who love to be critical, ensure that you treat everyone, no exception your loved ones – family, respectfully. It is no use acting in this manner and your behavior leaves much to be desired and should change. Keep in mind that God is taking note of your words and actions for your judgment and even a mini one while you are on earth.

  16. April 4, 2016

Baroness I would like to know on your many visits to Dominica in all the discussion with Skerrit, if you had any meeting with the leader of the opposition?, if yes kudos to you if not, what is the reason, Patricia you are too political notivated, and yes it is because of Politics you were elected to the post, and instead of talking yout rubbish, you need to practice what you preach, you are Skerrit are rubbing shoulders together, hope that you will not divide the Commonwealth and derespect the leaders who were against your nomination , keep in mind that many of the rich and famous will soon be sucking salt, and will end up from fame, fortune, wealthy, Millionaires, billionaires to rags and their mansions will be a jail cell, some might even end their lives, Panama Breaking News

Due to your critical, evil words and attitude, she made that comment. I am certain she said it jovially. It was not meant as an insult and to hurt.
You did not criticize what Lennox said and did. He tore up the invitation and refused to attend the social gathering in her honor. He was unmannerly and inhospitable. You applauded him and complimented him. Just imagine. He deserved to be admonished. His attitude was poor, a disgrace and embarrassed nationals.
People as you were unkind to her, inhospitable and rude. You did even worst. You projected what type of people you are. You gave Dominica and the kind and hospitable nationals a bad name. Your words were an embarrassment. You should examine your conscience. You must learn and practice the Golden Rule.
There are nice Dominicans who have class and dignity and who practice same. Thank God all Dominicans are not as some of you.

Know that I have relatives who are from St. Joseph. I used to spend school holidays there and later always visited them. Prior to leaving Dominica, I visited them. St. Joseph is a must whenever I visit Dominica.
Some of them do not appreciate good people. They love to give them a bad name. What is more because they do not support DLP, they never have anything good to say about them and their associates. That is the problem with these people. This is why they carry on as they do and continue to do so. God will take care of them in time.

You role as Commonwealth SG may not have any bearing on local politics but your appearance at DLP rallies and you suce cel comment is political. Let me put it another way. The role of SG of the Commonwealth ( Royal puppets) is not for local politics but you the individual is politically bias. Did you visit with the leader of Dominica opposition? You only used Dominica to get the post you want as a British insider and the only way you could get that post was to use the place you stayed only a few months in your life. Only this sunday 18 independent journalists were arrested in the Maldives by President Maheed’s police for protesting against am alleged crackdown on the freedom of speech.
