Joshua Etienne’s death concerns CARIMAN

Thomas Holmes is president of CARIMAN Dominica

CariMAN expresses deep concern over the violent death of a male in the town of Portsmouth on August 5th 2014 while in Police custody.

Though CariMAN is not privy to all the circumstances surrounding the death of 48 year old Joshua Etienne, we as a male Organization continue to advocate for RESPECT for life regardless of the circumstances.

We wish to point to one of CariMAN’s main aims which is to reduce, prevent and end all forms of violence.

In so doing we ask everyone to respect each other’s diversity in terms of age, religion, ethnicity, class, abilities, educational background, sex orientation, geography, or any other status and Rights. Taking the life of someone will never be right.

Joshua Etienne had rights that should have been respected and not discriminated against. We all have to respect each other and help everyone reach their fullest potential.

It is our hope that the legal process will be allowed to take its course.

CariMAN empathises with those who are directly impacted by this unfortunate incident.

Good for you, Mr. Holmes and for CARIMAN. Irrespective of the brainless comments that will always surface, your advocacy in this case and others reflect the spirit of level headed and right thinking Dominicans. May your work prevail.

Cariman makes a statement? Wow! This is a first. Now that you have broken the ‘fear barrier’ we encourage you to keep up the advocacy.

DNO, on your article dated February 24, 2014, during the Tommy Lee saga, you conducted an interview with Pas. Joseph Benjamin – Chairman of the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches, and he had this to say: “He, (pas. Benjamin) however, noted that the religious community has a responsibility to do whatever is possible to protect Dominica, “from the inflow of any negative information that will affect this country in a negative way … we will speak against it.” DNO, I agree 100 % with the pastor because truly, we need stand against anything that will negatively affect the country. However, what happened to Joshua Etienne is affecting Dominica in a very negative way. Can you please try to contact the pastor so he could give us the position of the DAEC in this very disturbing matter?

Now that we have heard from Thomas Holmes – president of CARIMAN, I believe it’s time to hear from other leading voices in Dominica such as: Pas. Joseph Benjamin – Chairman of the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches, who was very vocal and outstanding in the fight against Tommy Lee Sparta. Pas. Benjamin was a good friend of the deceased, as well as neighbor. We need to hear Evangelist Peter Augustine, since he is a leading evangelist in Dominica and I remember seeing the deceased recently in a crusade preached by him at the Mang. We need to hear Mr. Ian Douglas – the parlep for Portsmouth and Picard. Come on guys! Stop hiding behind the platform. Portsmouth

Why are you concerned? Did his life concern you? Are you concerned about the lives of people like him or are you using him to hit the limelight? If people like you all do more for the living maybe they would not meet such horrible deaths? Im just saying…..

You are so correct!! Silly individuals don’t think logically. They need to think before writing these ridiculous comments. According to Matt Peltier:
“It is better to be thought of as a foul, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”!
