Landslide on road to Portsmouth

landslide

Motorists traveling on the road between Bourne and Portsmouth are asked to proceed with caution as there is a landslide in an area called Palington.

The landslide was caused by rains which have been lashing the island.

A tropical wave is currently affecting Dominica and the Met Office has told people living in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks to be vigilant and to exercise caution.

Hello and good afternoon my people. Those types of events are expected because we have soft fertile soil and we get lots of rain but no one got injured so that’s good. I recently spent a month in Dominica and I drove all of the country and what I observed was relatively good roads but not long term thinking or planning when they were built. We have many students that are very good in mathematics and science therefore we should give scholarships to some students to go and study Civil Engineering. We have many Middle class Dominicans in America,Canada and England so we need to come up with private scholarships to guide some students into Civil Engineering for which our country can benefit from.

This is the season for such. Hope the rain subsides and there will be no more landslides.
Keep safe fellow Dominicans especially in those areas where they are prone to landslides.
This area has fertile soil. Look at its color.
When the rain falls it makes the trees and grass green. This is the beauty after the rain.
We are experiencing humid weather in Toronto. I told someone today, remembering some years in August, it is unusual for August. Generally, August commence cooling down. I recall a year in August was cool and we had to wear a Fall coat. From thereon it got cooler and winter set in. We never know with the weather as it fluctuates. That was a long winter. :)
The thought crossed my mind, may we not have an earthquake. When the earth heats up this could occur.
God help us all and keep us safe, wherever we reside.

landslides are a common thing on any mountainous Island with narrow roads. That happens in every country.

I’m just surprised that there isn’t better planning for drainage and retaining walls. that investment will save a lot of money and damage in the future.

If you pile up dirt then wet it… of course its going to fall on the sides where it can…. whats the big surprise!
just like those roads they build that keep getting washed away… obviously its a bridge or an overpass that is needed at that location and not a road.

Does Skerrit have shares in the company from Viellecase that has a Bobcat doing nonsense on the road? I just can’t understand why a government would pay a person or company to that nonsense in the name of roadside cleaning. Somebody MUST answer questions

  6. August 4, 2016

Some landslides are acts of nature but this one and others that will follow on the portsmouth to airport road, is carelessness on the side of the government and their new public works. I mean to see how Skerrit have one of his top boys dig the sides of a road with a Bobcat, in the name of cleaning without any supervision, is nothing short of self inflicted danger paid for by the government.

Freedom of expression is something else. Some people overdo it. As if it is not your country.
You are something else. Your comment made me laugh but not worth complimenting. Where do you reside in Mars? It never ceases to amaze me that some people love throwing words, criticizing, discouraging, also debasing their country but they do absolutely nothing to help their country.
When last have you gone to church, prayed for yourself, for others and your country? This is what you should be doing. Stop wasting your God-given precious time and do something concrete. Do you not know that God will hold you accountable for your idle words and action and wasting your time.

You must be one of those church goers who think that a person must read the bible or go to church in order to be a decent person and be productive in society.

It\’s been sinking from east to west, and north to soff. The people needs to be evacuated. Dominica was then; Now it looks more like Doom-is-occur. A corrupt government could sink a country, literally.

Hello and good afternoon my people. Our Country have soft fertile soil and we get lots of rain which makes it Prone to landslides. Now why don’t you help sponsor a student to go to school to be a Civil Engineer and after completion that student(male or female) can return and design/build better roads and bridges. That would be money well spent to help someone and our Country.
