LIAT CEO quits

Brian Challenger

The Board of Directors of LIAT Airline on Monday announced the resignation of Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Brian Challenger, with effect from 30th June 2012.

In his letter of resignation, Mr Challenger expressed his appreciation to the Board, as well as to the Company’s lead shareholders and staff, for the opportunity to serve the region during the past three years.

LIAT’s Chairman, Jean Holder, speaking on behalf of the shareholders, Board of Directors and staff, expressed the view that Mr. Challenger has made an important contribution to LIAT during a difficult period in which he exhibited loyalty, dedication and hard work.

Until he leaves at the end of June 2012, Mr. Challenger will work with the executive management team to facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO.

Mrs. Julie Reifer-Jones, Chief Financial Officer, will act as CEO in the interim.

Meanwhile active steps are in place to fill the post of CEO as soon as possible.

Don’t think it will make an ounce of difference to his pathetic excuse of an airline – bring on some competition and train the staff with the very basics in customer service.

new wine in old skin .. meme baggai.. the more things change the more they remain the same…

PLS DONT BE NAIVE..PPL.. LIAT will never never change its STRIPES cause a leopard cannot change its either… ANYWAY I am hoping, praying for REDJET to return..a low carrier is what the region needs ..REMember that soon a FERRY SERVICE will be commencing in the southern cbean between the waters of trinidad as far north as st lucia…so in the mean time dom to antigua will have to wait and hence dominicans should be backing a quick return of REDJET..and instead of trying to put money into LIAT put it in REDJET INSTEAD…

LASTLY… now that american eagle will exit permanently, JETBLUE will take over Puerto Rico sky and service the roots that eagle once did.. LIAT nor CBEAN AIRLINES can compete with JETBLUE from P.R. as i said REDJET has the capacity to compete on all fronts imagine if REDJET HAD 10 airplanes now to compete with jetblue that would do well for all of us with cheaper and competitive fares..trust me.. redjet needs to improve their system of operations somewhat and they ll be just find in the future..AT LEAST REDJET dont have any FAT BLOATED HIGH PAYING SALARIES for their management levels cause REDJET dont have alot of that in their company .. unlike LIAT..[lucian]

“CORRECTION” — liat and caribbean airlines CANNOT COMPETE WITH JETBLUE, when this airline services the same routes american eagle once had.. JETBLUE HAS ALREADY BUILT A NEW HUB BASE IN Puerto Rico a yr ago i think?..

FERRY SERVICE Will dramatically help decrease airfares but that will depend on how our ppl in the region supports the sea ferries… LASTLY i truly believe TRINIDAD has the money to take over the cbean skies and with REDJET..as a support low fare carrier … in my view THERE IS NO MORE ROOM FOR LIAT AND ITS INCOMPETENCE.. just 2 main regional airlines will do ..we shouldnt allow Idealistic nationalism to cloud our judgements LIAT HAS BEEN A MEDIOCRITY for 15 yrs now.. it wont change ..liat was the best airline we had for many yrs prior to that hands down .. i am trying to be unbiased and balanced but i know those reading this will be skeptics..

Island boy, the whole caribbean is incompetent. Give a caribbean person a post and it will fail. the regions people are too dumb, just read the comments. We spend our time talking about incompetence soo much we even fail to evaluate ourselves as a region and see that all the hand me down Airlines like Redjet is gone now, soon Jet Blue will have to raise its fares to survive in the region. It looks like you guys fail to make a good assesment of LIAT THAT YOU ALL MISS THE BIG PICTURE. You expect lower fares when your government is not even a shareholder and they kill liat with taxes and fuel prices and also operating in a region with short stops over sea water and ash seriously affects your engines and a hurrican prone region. No Airline, I say NO AIRLINE CAN STEP IN LIAT’S SHOES FOR THE HARD WORK THAT EACH STAFF EXERTS FOR THIS COMPANY, the criticisms on a good day for being early and also on bad days. LIAT has braved much and she will survive.

When will people realise that airfares are NOT expensive on LIAT? its the damn Government taxes that drive up the airfare cost. check any ticket and tell me what you see. a LIAT between Dominica and Antigua cost me US$62 dollars then the taxes drove the fare up to 112!!! tha is not LIAT’s fault. I blame LIAT for plenty but airfare isn’t one of them. the fares are reasonable. blame the damn OECS govts that impose these taxes on the tickets

That is why Americans will always triumph over the Caribbean People, we are easily bought for cheapness and get treated like dogs. LIAT and CAL are major caribbean investments which help to keep up the econimies of the region and you want to invest in an American company when we dont benifit from it? What have non caribbean carriers invested in in the region?NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING.

RedJet with all its old planes places caribbean peoples lives at risk everyday. Jet blue will never fly to Dominica but guess what? LIAT and CAL will remain even though you crucify them with your serpent tongues they will always be there for you.

He is in the fire, he knows that it is getting hotter for LIAT, and he knows that LIAT will always be a struggling company

Dominicans are serpents, their tongues are no good. They use it to cry down, bad talk and to kill people’s character. Dominicans never have anything good to say about anything that’s why they’re stuck with small airports, less hotels and lack of foreign investors. I don’t know why LIAT cares soo much to keep flying there?
