The Emergency Operations Center – EOC, the nucleus of communication and steering of restoration efforts following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika has been on the receiving end of 5 Samsung Galaxy Tablets from LIME Dominica.
The presentation was done by LIME’s Government Account Manager Dewel Yorke who said, “the tablets introduce an added mobility feature to the collection of critical data associated with the post TS Erika relief efforts”.
Disaster Coordinator, Office of Disaster Management, Don Corriette says, the presentation of the tablets is very timely as they are now completing assessments in the various communities.
He says one of the challenges being experienced is the transmission of data back to the EOC in real time. “One of the gaps we have encountered is getting back the data into the EOC in a timely fashion in order to feed real time information to donor agencies on the impact of Tropical Storm Erika”.
Mr. Corriette added that the tablets will help in eliminating that challenge and will go a long way in support of the EOC’s response and recovery efforts.
Similar sentiments were shared by Telecoms Director Bennet Thomas who thanked LIME for what he described as a beautiful gesture. Mr. Thomas noted that the tablets will be useful for uploading of information at remote areas where Broadband Global Access Networks were recently deployed.
ICT Director Jermaine Jean-Pierre expressed her gratitude for the presentation of tablets from LIME and noted that they will play a critical role in collecting data post Tropical Storm Erika.
LIME Dominica has been instrumental in enabling communication to key relief organizations in the aftermath of the storm.
