Linton calls for intense dialogue at Layou

The failed Layou River Hotel Project has been a topic of much discussion
The failed Layou River Hotel Project has been a topic of much discussion

Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, has called on his supporters to meet with him at the Layou River Hotel on the afternoon of Thursday, February 04th, 2016 to dialogue on issues surrounding the much talked about Layou River Economic Citizenship program and the Layou River Hotel project.

Linton’s request has come following notification of a Judicial Committee London-based Privy Council Ruling which has ordered him to pay Chartered Accountant Keiron Pinard- Byrne a total of £20, 000 in court costs.

This comes days after Lennox Linton settled fees to Pinard- Byrne amounting $79,324.86 which was ordered by the High Court in Dominica from a defamation suit on October 2015.

Linton told Q95 fm radio on Monday that his first order of business in response to this new ruling would be to meet with the people of Dominica.

“I don’t want to deal with this cost matter at the Privy Council until I get together with the people of Dominica at the Layou River Hotel, especially those who have been supporting me,” he said.

Linton continued his appeal by saying,” We need to go, we need to be there, we need to talk, we need to understand where we are and where we are going in the Layou River Hotel matter.”

The Linton/Pinard Byrne court matter centers around the Layou River Economic Citizenship Program and the Layou River Hotel project and dates back to 2002 when Pinard-Byrne sued Linton because of an article published on a website and statements made about the same program on a radio show, on which Linton was a guest.

Mr. Lin would say I am not holding anyone with ropes, those who want to come may come. Like I said before, they really made a contribution but with reservation. Had they made it in good faith, it would have been gone and forgotten but, as you can see, they are loosing some sleep over it.They are coming for more ,more and more again and again.Fire, and more fire.Fastcash! they are all yours.PM they never had it so good ,thanks to you. They will have nothing left to campaign before election. Win the next election and any country will have you. they just love you” forever”

Linton, your parents were people of peace, they could have fought but chose to be peaceful. They were people of integrity and were always looked up to by the people of Marigot and beyond. Lennox, please give peace a chance. Its not that you are a coward and your people understands and knows that.
But when you read the comments of some people I can feel the hatred for you you.
I have a gut feeling that if you continue that something bad will happen to you. People are filled with evil and hatred for you and its not only political, I think this has gone beyond politics. It has become personal and I feel that someone is really out to get you in a bad way.
Take some advise and leave this issue alone, leave Dominica and take your skills somewhere where people will have more honor for you.
Its a waste of time and energy to fight for the worst country in the world. Dominica have nowhere going, just look at the reports that are coming forward about Dominica and ask yourself, what am I…

You sound like a jackass. I am neither a supporter of Linton or Roosevelt but, we need to ask these questions. Where the hell did the money for the hotel project went and who benefited from the passport selling scheme?

Linton wasn’t charged for talking or investigating the Layou River Project. Linton was charged for libelling Keiron Pinard Byrne. Why are we continually clouding the issues?

Linton – attack the issue, stick to the issue. You cannot continue to libel and give maypwis and make baseless judgement and condemnation. Word of mouth and suspicion is not evidence.

I’m really sick of these irresponsible politicians and the way they continue to mislead the public. I say we need a new party, a group of trustworthy statesmen. Right now, I’m seeing a gross lack of honest leadership in Dominica and it is very sad and maddening. I see the effect on our society, on our youth, on our outlook, our perceptions,. People need leaders because without leaders, there is chaos. Those of you who are hiding but are able to lead, we need you now.

Politics is dirty business and so the majority of decent people stay far from politics. The people who could really make a difference will not get involved for fear of tarnishing their good name, so you know we have a serious problem. My suggestion is that Mr Joshua Francis step up and challenge Lennox for the leadership of the party. He is already a parliamentarian and I believe he has very good judgement. Joshua is the answer to this crisis we are facing in our beloved country. But will he come forward?

It’s rather unfortunate that Mr. Linton hasn’t learned from his mistakes. Could his behavior stem from he not knowing any better or just his determination to “win”? I ask this because any right thinking person would accept that this approach is not working and it’s time to try something new. Instead, he continues along the same path to achieve different results which is often defined as insanity. There is an idiom which says, the more you know, the more you know that you don’t know. Well, Mr. Linton continues to show that the less he knows is the more that he thinks he knows. I say to all UWPites let us stop encouraging this behavior and save our money for a better cause because it’s makes no sense raising over 100 thousand dollars to pay for legal bills which could be invested to our benefit. I say lets regroup as a party and take back our country. Our raw emotions has failed us as a party and we have nothing to show for it but debt.

As always the UWP response is tentative and confusing. It is a party working on behalf of the people but scared to mobilise the people behind them. In fact in paying Linton’s legal costs it was the people who mobilised themselves What does the party mean by having a discussion about Layou? We have heard enough and that is why the people volunteered to pay the Linton legal costs. Either you know it is wrong and rally the people behind you or leave it alone before Skerrit laughs at you when just a few show up

What calling people to gather at that site. Is this because the DLP is having a meeting in St. Joseph on Tuesday? So on Thursday he wants a meeting there too?

Like during the last General Election. Labour held a sea of red, red, rally in St. Joseph after UWP saw the crowd it blued (choice word) their mind so they tried to see how they could out do that and planned their own blue youth rally in St. Joseph. Sadly, was it there Dominicans were called prostitutes, greedy, needed and the Government Ministers were called something else? I cannot remember.

Therefore from my calculations DLP is having a meeting in St. Joseph on Tuesday, The UWP wants to have one in the area too 2 days later. How long was that case in the courts and when was the first time or last time the UWP held a meeting there, remember, the case was never about the project it was a defamation case. I recall the temptation scene in the bible: all this could be yours if you worship me.

    • @A Doubting Thomas In Solidarity February 1, 2016 “All this could be yours if you worship me”

Just so you know that I like you comments; I share you sentiments, for they are sincere to me

However that quote above is true according to the Bible; but it cannot be compared with Lennox’s ambitions–whatever it is. I don’t see nothing at that site for him to offer to the people, in place of worshiping him..

    All we are asking

Where are all the millions of $$$$$ made in selling our passports?

Where is Felix Chen’s US$20 million?

Where was that US $20 million coming from according to statements on the matter at the BVI case, where Skerritt was a witness?

Where is the 5-Star Layou River Hotel? Completed or in ruins?

Where are all the “investments” that are being boasted about? Name them.

The scheme of selling our passports, no accountability, no transparency, has benefited, continue to benefit only a few. How else could one account for the massive wealth of those few, in such quick time?

Individuals, agents companies selling our passports like peas. Many of those agents/companies in that have been in operation, yet Dominicans know nothing. Only when the truth is revealed by patriotic Dominicans, that we get to know.

What about the selling of diplomatic immunity, the selling of our diplomatic passports? Isn’t that an abomination? The hard facts won’t…

This a remarkable move by Mr. Linton. Many DLP supporters are brain- washed by the likes of Simeon, Aaron, Tony, Skeritt, Macintime Douglas and old man Ducreay who are trying to make the unaccounted approximately $120 million a Linton thing. The DLP supporters in particular don’t believe approximately $120 million were collected from Dominicans for a five star hotel we never received. Mr. Pinard- Byrne an accountant at the time of the Layou Hotel River matter has not been able to tell Dominicans where did all that money disappear to. Mr. Linton has never accused Pinard-Byrne of stealing the money, like numerous Dominicans, all he wanted was for someone like Pinard-Byrne to stand up and address the case of the missing $120 million. I have told Mr. Linton on several occasions, he cannot save Dominicans, when people like Skeritt, Tony and newly added Vince have them in a choke hold. The honest, loving, kind man that he is, he just will not listen.

    • February 2, 2016

@doc love Lennox did say that KPB must have syphoned the money, in other words he said that the money was stolen. Read the case and pay attention to the words that were complained of, it is public record. Also listen to the submission at the Privy Council. Don’t look to Skeritt or his henchmen for answers about a missing 120 million as he was not in office during the time of this fiasco, it was the UWP government lead by EDISON JAMES that was in office during that time 1995 to 2000.

  42. Dr Clayton Shillingford
    February 1, 2016

The main question that needs to be posed by the Dominican people is who were the parties responsible for the mess that is now the Layou River Hotel..It is much too facile and ignorant to heap the entire mess on Lennox Linton’s head. Lennox Linton was/is correct in making the matter a national issue which it should have been from the outset.. The question again who were the actors involved in passport selling at that time?? Where as now did the passport and other investment monies disappear to?? Have we seen the various documents involved in this matter?? Employment contracts etc?? Who owns the lands on which the two ruined structures stand that are now returning to forest?? As usual instead of dealing with key issues some Dominicans (including tidel, Dominican Abroad, Hmmm) move not to see how the national interest was subverted but to see how for political or personal reasons Lennox Linton can be victimised.. How shameful!! The cowards who attack then hide behind these bogus names

    • February 2, 2016

Nobody is blaming the Layou River mess on Lennox. The problem is that the the over enthusiasm of Lennox as he addressed the issue resulted in him defaming KPB and the courts have so ruled. Therefore several thousands of dollars have to be paid to KPB by Lennox. You are correct we have find out who the responsible parties were and we can start by asking questions of officials of the UWP administration that was in office at the time.

    • Observer
      February 2, 2016

Dr. Shillingford, stop your nonsense. The court system, the institution of justice which we all turn to at one time or the other, concluded that Lennox Linton defamed Mr. KPB, when he did not alleged that KPB “siphoned hundreds of thousands” of dollars from the project. Lennox actually said “he, KBP siphoned” the money. It is on the court records on Eastern Caribbean Court website and that of the Privy Council. which Mr. Linton has not denied. The court told Mr. Linton that presented no evidence to prove that Mr. Byrne criminally benefitted from the proceeds of the passport money. As a service provider, he was paid for his services and that is well audited. It is Lennox who has returned at every stage to the Layou River Hotel in his emotional plea for Dominicans to bail him out. So because I have issues with the way the DAAS lands at Rosalie was handled, I can go public and say that Dr. Clayton Shillingford illegally aacquired said property and money of DAAS? Think of that Sir!

    • Observer
      February 2, 2016

My other point Dr. Shillingford. Which government started the project? Which government authorized the expenditure to transfer funds from the escrow to the project? It is Linton’s party. The labour party under Pierro stopped the project. PM Skerrit went to the BVI to secure the real estate for Dominicans. the DAAS lands at Rosalie is now forever l;ost to the people of Dominica. Can I ask a question Sir? Are you one of the co-owneers of a portion of land at Rosalie that was originally titled to the DAAS? Is It true Sir.? How did you get it?

  43. February 1, 2016

I do not want to hear or read another word about Dominicans are poor…there is an old saying that goes like this, “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” ebeh Dominicans will be really stupid to fall for Linton crap again…but then again…. who am I to judge… remember Jim Jones…. looks like if called upon to jump off a cliff, some might do it because they love their Leader…..TOTALEA… SE..PA..SEL..YON..ZOR…KAY…SOUSAY…

If I could advise the UWP and its supporters, I would say in a not too nuanced way: Mr. Linton is doing the Party more harm than good. It is time to rethink seriously his usefulness and ability in moving the Party’s agenda forward. Linton and his semantics, along with all his legal troubles is proving to be very costly and too onerous a burden – financially and socially – for the Party. Him and his problems are detracting from our ability to focus on the important job of preparing the Party to lead this country to a brighter day. Lintion, for his part, if he still has any integrity left in him, should come to the same conclusion and not allow himself to be labeled a rascal; he should do the right thing for Dominica and his Party and relinquish leadership to someone who can help refocus the Party. Joshua Francis comes to mind as one – though still untested – who can rally the UWP troops onto better times, more hopeful prospects. Linton ought not be allowed to ruin a once promising UWP.

So you want to talk about the LRP? You want to talk about something you know everything about. Let me refresh your memory, when Edison James came into power he gave these people 21 million dollars, and never checked back to see where it went. The DLP took over and realized that money was lost cause you don’t know who got what, the best they could’ve done was get back the property. Thank God they never throw more good money into that project because we saw every time a little rain falls it washes out that whole place. Linton can go there and even pray to the sun when it rises, he has his fools sorry ducks in a row. De abattoir he taking them to-to deypatatay them, in our local term(break their hand) LOL.

How old was the current PM when the Layou project began?
How many Governments have been involved with the Layou River Hotel Project since conception?
Did the UWP as a government changed anything in regard to that Project?
What was the case all about?
When did that case become about the people of Dominica?
What did the Justices say in rendering their verdict?
Did they view it as something of a personal vendetta?

What really does the Opposition stand for?
Was the UWP against CCJ in preference of the Privy Council
Is the UWP not content by the ruling of the Privy Council their preferred Court of Appeal?
    I am baffled really.

I hope that the blue ones turn out in great numbers to show their love and support for the true leader honorable Linton. He need not worry. The citizens showed that they got your back the last time by raising over $100,000 in your name so I don’t see why it can’t be done again. It will happen. All you need to do is ask and you shall receive. Knock and the door will be opened unto you. Seek and ye shall find. The members of the DUMB LAZY PARTY are saying that by the time Dominicans are finished paying your bills you would have sucked them dry. They’re so stupid it’s not even funny. What these jackasses fail to realize is simple math. For example, if 1000 people each gave $100 that would equate to 1000 x $100 = $100,000. So tell me how can giving away $100 suck you dry? Don’t they realize how dumb that sound? You won’t have any problems getting that money Mr. Linton so there’s no need to lose any sleep over it.

  56. Sakwe Gas
    February 1, 2016

That’s right Linton! We will be there standing strong to highlight the continuous theft of poor people’s money. They wish all Dominicans would play moo-moo and see money disappear without asking one single question. No money for DCP to reopen, No money to fix roads, install guard rails, no money for anything, but if you ask where it gone, they are ready to sue.

While they worry about 20K pounds, they ignore MILLIONS of wasted tax payer’s money that go into these useless projects. Let them know we won’t stop asking. Someone needs to account for all of this money. Too much lying, stealing, hiding, and all so our country can have the lowest economic growth, highest debt and a bunch of “ruins” around the island.

Mandela had to fight, King had to fight, and we true country-loving patriots will not be intimidated. We too will fight to regain sense and order in this land!

  57. I can’t wait to read about this! I just can’t imagine what more is there to say; what can the few people do? The court has already spoken; and the loser must suffer the consequences, not the winner–when is Linton going to learn his lesson?

  58. tidel
    February 1, 2016

Mr Linton, you can try to spin the issue as much as you want, that will not work. The issue is that you lied on KPB, accept it, pay the man and move on. You want to be wrong and strong. Note, it was the UWP government that stopped the project.

Yes. Bury your head in the sand and think an issue is being spinned. Linton’s debt will be paid, but who will repay the Millions stolen from hard working Dominicans? Who? The Baronness? The Venezuelans, the Morrocans? Pinard-Byrne? Skerrit?

Think of all the job’s lost from this project. Think of all the investment that could have gone into something productive and worthwhile. Too many Dominicans are operating on a level of ignorance fit only for animals. When will you get it that we are a POOR country and don’t have Millions to go missing without any account.

If you guys can defend such blatant theft then just shut the country down and call it a day! Why pretend we are trying to bring forth progress when you celebrate your own demise?
