Lithuania provides EUR 10,000 in aid to hurricane-hit Dominica

Lithuania on the map of Baltic states

The Baltic state of Lithuania has allocated 10,000 euros in aid to Dominica following the ravages of Hurricane Maria.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said on Friday said the money will be transferred to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

According to the ministry, Lithuania responded to an appeal by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for around 27-million euros to be raised for Dominica by the end of the year.

Hurricane Maria, which ravaged the region in September caused widespread damage and destruction in Dominica.

According to the World Bank, Lithuania has a population of 2.8-million and its capital is Vilnius.

The spending of all donations from abroad must be supervised by the donor country/body to prevent misuse of funds.
    Thank you, Lithuania.

Thank you Lithuania for whatever help you are able to give to Dominica.
All countries have their economical burdens. We must be satisfied with whatever help is given. There is obviously more to come.

Really, Lithuania? EUR 10,000? Little St.Kitts and Nevis with a population of 53,000 contributed EUR 318,914 to Dominica

May be you know, where is Lithuania, you see it on the map :-)
Do you know more about this small country?
May be the help from Lithuania is a symbolic one, but they did it! It means they know about Dominica and gives what they can. I am happy they did it! Many thanks to Lithuania!

What you don’t realize is that Lithuania is a really, really, poor country….. one of the poorest in the EU….. I’ve been there, and many parts of the country look like they need aid themselves (Panevėžys, Kaunas….. even parts of Vilnius….. sometimes, I think of them as being “the ruins”). That they give EUR10,000 when they could use it themselves is what we should be considering here. Thank you LT.
