A Dominican fisherman, who went missing on New Year’s Eve in Antigua, is alive and well after he made his way to shore late that night.
43-year-old Batholomew Lawrence was reported missing on December 31 after he went spear fishing on Saltfish Tail Reef, off the north coast of Antigua, media on that island is reporting.
According to the reports, Lawrence and three friends were in the water fishing around 11:00 am. His friends reportedly lost sight of him about four hours later.
The three friends searched the rough waters until 8:00 pm and when he was not found, the Antigua Coast Guard was alerted.
A unit from the Marine Rescue Co-ordinating Center in Fort de France, Martinique was also engaged to search for Lawrence and an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was sent out to all mariners.
But reports indicate that Lawrence reached shore near a hotel around 6:00 pm, two hours before the Coast Guard was alerted, but the authorities were unaware of this.
Reports indicate that he arrived on shore disoriented and exhausted, so he simply slept there overnight.
On New Year’s Day Lawrence turned up and told everyone what actually happened.
