The Loubiere Reunion Committee has received assistance to  the total of $11,000, thanks to the government of Dominica and the Dominica National Petroleum Company.

A presentation of $8,000 from the government and $3,000 from the National Petroleum Company was made to the committee on Thursday afternoon at the Loubiere Resource Center.

This is the the second time the committee has received money from the government for the staging of the event.

An earlier pledge of $15,000 made by prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has already been delivered.

Ronald Charles, chairman of the Loubiere Reunion Committee, assured the donors that the money will be put to good use.

He said when the committee began organizing the reunion, there was no budget and funds are still being sought.

“We want to tell them that their money will not go into fun and frolic, into sewo,” he said. “We have a number of educational and cultural and social activities that we are planning and it will go into that.”

He call on residents of Loubiere, especially business persons, to come on board and assist.

“We are still looking for money, we are still looking for resources for the success of the reunion,” Charles stated.

MP for Roseau South Consituency, Ambrose George, who presented the government, said “it was with a sense of satisfaction” that he was making the presentation to the committee.

He pointed out that reunions are important to Dominica and the one in Loubiere has not only aroused his interest but he has been playing a positive role and keeping in tune with ongoing preparations.

“I want congratulate the management committee because I know that it has been a very tedious task,” the MP stated. “It is a lot of work, a lot of commitment, a lot dedication of a number of persons who have decided to ensure that the reunion will come to fruition and from all reports so far it appear certainly that we are going to have a Loubiere reunion in 2014.”

Roxanne Christian, of National Petroleum, said about a year ago the company met with two members of the reunion committee and a promise of financial contribution, which would go towards the reunion effort, was made.

“So today I am quite happy on behalf of the board of Directors of the Dominica National Petroleum Company to make this contribution…” she said.

The Loubiere Reunion runs from Thursday 24th July to August 4th 2014 under the theme, “Celebrating our community, come back to our roots.”

Its been a pleasure reading the comments. My attention is however drawn to the many unsavoury comments that have been leveled at a group of individuals who have spent the better part of two years well before any general elections preparing, and planning for the activity. These comments could not have come out from a “Louberian” – I believe never.

The first formal village reunion activity in Dominica took place in Castle Bruce many moons ago. Mrs. Loraine Bannis Roberts was instrumental in leading the efforts then. Since then there has been innumerable “reunion events” across the length and breath of Dominica. Government has always been involved supporting the planning efforts of the local planning committee in a myriad of ways. I have never read so many negative comments. But then I understand how the comments are and can be posted. One person can take on several pen names to themselves and post comments to give the effect that there is some opposition to the activity.

Let it be known to all and sundry that the Loubiere Reunion 2014 program is not a partisan tool. The management committee is composed of people from both sides of the major political divide. Whilst these people have their personal partisan affiliation, the planning for the reunion has in large measure been devoid of any partisan consideration. The group ha sworked very well. Of course there has been disagreements on how the process is advanced ,the type of activities, budget etc ete etc. But isn’t that a natural human phenomenon? In fact both of the already known candidates have made personal contributions to the development of the program. The Minister of government, Mr. Ambrose George is representing the government. Government’s support for the reunion is very commendable. That is obvious. The people of Loubiere will not apologize for accepting government’s offer of support for its first ever reunion. The program is not only “fun an frolic”. It also includes educational, cultural, sporting, spiritual economic and social aspects of community of development. It is all embracing.

Loubiere will have its day in the bright Dominican sunshine. rest assured of that. Loubiere will take advantage of this rare opportunity to showcase what it represents in Dominica and what it has contributed to developing Dominica. all in the interest of empowering our youth to see their commuity in a different light in the hope that they can benefit from past achievements. No one should seek to steal this time.

The process for selecting members of the management committee including the chairman was open and transparent. A number of individuals who could have and can still contribute were approached and for reasons best known to them, perhaps partisan, flatly refused or frustrated the appeals to contribute. There is still an invitation out encouraging people to come on board and assist. Rather than stay and curse Loubiere emerging light, let us light a candle and please join the effort. You too can contribute. By the way, when the time comes for the chairman to make that major decision, the whole world will know. It will not be a clandestine activity. This chairman does not need a reunion of sorts promote himself. The records of years of contributing to community development are well etched in the annals of the Loubiere story. Now eat your heart off.

Mr. Chairman, You read these comments as unsavoury , we see them as everyday comments affecting Dominica and Dominican`s lives. Its either you are blind to the reality of the situation or the growing poverty in Dominica or you are blinded by your allegiance to PM Skerrit.
In principle there is nothing wrong with a Reunion, we applaud all those who took the initiative, but under this political climate (voters ID, cheating elections etc…etc..)the numerous allegations of corruption, bin bobol fiasco, rising records of abuse of our young girls and women from all angles you expect to live in that environment of reunion? Where have you been…….hiding.? Garcon wake up and smell the dirty politics..
What are we reuniting, let me remind you that Loubiere is part of Dominica and there is this bigger picture that you and some of your loyal friends are just not seeing.
The campaign should be one of reuniting Dominica to a cause of decency in public office and governance in Dominica,, reunite to a change from bad government to good government, from corruption and deceit to reuniting our people to meaningful development and if you are not aware we are fed up and had enough of the Skerrit led DLP government.
They are corrupt, you Know that, you are a top ranking civil servant and all people like you and others should know better…….and just to tell you , please do not tell us about Loreen Bannis, or use her as an example as she was and still is a part of this corrupt government and we still need to know what is her role in St,. Thomas and is she receiving government public funds (US$2,200.00…monthly to do what??????) to do what, campaign for Skerrit and Labour Corrupt \Party? Mr. Chairman WHEN LAST YOU`VE TOI CASTLE BRUCE after its reunion?? Go to CASTLE BRUCE go visit and tell me what you see. poverty, hopelessness, people begging, the REUNION CENTRE IS BROKEN DOWN, ITS NOT IS USE ANYMORE. POLITCAL BREAKDOWN. THAT IS THE SUCCESS OF THE SO CALLED CASTLE BRUCE REUNION. and when all you finish all you saying people do not care because they share a different perspective.
God bless and protect Loubiere from evil politicians/
      Good luck
Is that reunion activities she is engaged in, in St. Thomas. So try going to tell and convince people that this Reunion is NOT a DLP lead partisan thing…….
Questions, who receives money in Loubiere from central government (maybe the lady in the picture??) and dishes out to party hopeful……where the money came from, Skerrit’s pocket?, DLP pocket?, government pocket or the Loubiere Reunion pocket??? or through the chairman??????? questions ,….questions….we need answers……this is a reunion disguised to make Skerrit feel good, in all the poverty in Loubiere, La Haut, Fond Baron etc…remember it is NOT Ambrose people voting for, it is Skerrit, a Prime Minister who should have been out of office twelve (12) years ago.
You people are good People, but caught up in the wrong camp…mixed up with and encouraging bobol and high ranking corruption in our poor country.
Look at the young people hang out by the toilet everyday, in drugs, drinking…..homeless………lost……what is the latest initiative taken by you and others to train them, get a decent job (public works could be a good place, but your PM and his arrogant government killing it)…????? And you all have no say….you aLl just stay mute and silent and come with your rubbish , we like our PM….and is jealous people jealous…….and when people talk all you victimize and you want people to come in what reunion???????wake up and help campaign for decent and honest government in Dominica, that will begin the process of a nice REUNION FOR LOUBIERE, NEWTOIWN, GOD WILL, CASTLE BRUCE AND DOMINICA AND TEAM DOMINICA

The Skeritt led administration really does not know the priority of the country. You can urgently find $8000 for people to do their celebrations, but one of your most important hospitals has been closed for months. Maybe the people of Marigot should declare they have turned RED in order to get some assistance.

For once the sleepy community of Loubiere is in the limelight, even if for a short time and some people vex. Well eat your heart (s) out. This is our first reunion. So many communities have gone before us and have had two and perhaps more reunion. Government has been supporting them in varying measure. No comment. Suddenly it is Loubiere’s turn and some people have something negative to say?

  11. WOW
    July 5, 2014

A reunion of a village in the Commonwealth of Dominica, and all that negativity? I have heard and seen many reunions come and go in Dominica and I live here and I have just been happy for the communities. Dominicans are getting really bitter and for what, money is not everything people!!! Get a grip and look towards your salvation or something positive. Government will come and government will go, but we the people of Dominica will remain who we are!!! Embrace that!!

$500,000 to catholic church, $8,000, + $3,000 and an earlier pledge of $15,000 from the Hon PM, I don’t know what else I missed out on but I sure did not miss out on the 0%, 0%, 0%, offer to the Police and Public Servants, I hope good sense will prevail among the majority of the Dominican people at the right time.

The Village Council even after collecting house rates does absolutely nothing in some parts of Loubiere. After the heavy rains some residents who were affected got no relief. Some of the roads are in a dismal condition, yet the Government finds money to give towards sewo and fete.

  18. July 4, 2014

This Reunion activity is begging to get me suspicious. It appears that these privileged people including the (self appointed????) chairman is very close to PM and funds has already been presented to them. HOW MUCH MORE IS TO BE SOLICITED. MY GUESS IS $100,00.00 HAS ALREADY BEEN GIVEN FOR THE ILL PREPARED PLAYING FIELD. The lady who is standing next to the so called chairman it is said is key where funds for private use to some, RATHER A SELECTED FEW residents may be going through and once she requests through the Doctor from the valley, NOT the outgoing Parliamentary Rep. AMBROSE, she receives and dishes. THE LAST BATCH WAS ABOUT $10,000.00.
We need an investigation. Where is all this money going, who hands out, what is the level of accountability for States money only if it is coming from Skerrit’s pocket and personal account.
This reunion is a farce and only set up by outside loubierittes to promote and make Skerrit feel AND LOOK good. Since Sikiri, the Honourable decent young lawyer from Loubiere came on the scene the Skerrit’s cabal have been running about trying to catch their tails. Joshua Francis is THREAT.

I don’t think any one there is running for election, money is coming out from the woods to purchase votes but the important subject that need taking care of is been neglected by the Gov’t, no money for the policemen ,roads farmers, hospital especially the on in the village of Marigot next to the Airport, they money that the Gov’t is giving to buy votes it’s tax payers money take it and them vote them out like they did in Antigua.
