Chairperson of the Loubiere Village Council, Rosamund Lebruin has stated the position of the council on a matter which transpired at the Loubiere Resource Center during a wedding reception recently.
She told Dominica News Online on Monday that the council condemns the act of violence which took place there on October 29.
“The Loubiere Village Council condemns the act of disturbance and violence which occurred on the 29th of October at the Loubiere Resource Center and the council wishes to express their dissatisfaction in the total behavior of what transpired,” stated Lebruin.
She noted that “this is the first ever occurrence of such an event at Loubiere, and we would like to emphasize to the public that this will not occur again in the future.”
The Council also expressed their hearts to the public and to the bride and groom.
“Council wishes express our deepest regrets on the incident,” she said.
Lebruin also alerted the public that the Resource Center is now back up and running.
“The Resource Center is now back up and running and the public is welcomed to continue using the resource center, as it is now and will continue to be a safe environment for the public,” she said.
The incident took place between two groups who started by hurling stones and bottles at each other during the reception. One group retreated to the Resource Center and locked themselves inside.
However, the other group, led by a young man wielding a cutlass, went to the center and began breaking down the door. The group eventually broke through the door and began hurling bottles and stones inside.
Reports also indicate that a bus carrying guests for the wedding reception was attacked.
Two people were reportedly hurt in the incident.
