Macoucherie bypass has been compromised

The bypass at Macoucherie

Motorists traveling through the Macoucherie on the west coast should proceed with extreme caution since the bypass in the area has been compromised.

The old Macoucherie Estate Bridge should be utilized instead.

DNO is unsure when the bypass was compromised.

The original bridge at Macoucherie was washed away during Tropical Storm Erika in 2015 and was replaced by a Bailey bridge.

That bridge was affected by flood waters from a trough system which dumped heavy rains on the island in December 2016 but authorities declared it safe after repair works were done on it.

In March 2017 the Bailey bridge collapsed and in a press release that same month, the Ministry of Public Works said it was working “feverishly” to install a new permanent Macoucherie Bridge.

So you brag about the number of investors that are coming and how well your administration is doing. A simple bridge can’t be rebuilt three years after a hurricane.

Hello and good afternoon my people. In three years our Government can’t design and build a simple bridge makes me wonder what can our government accomplish. It seems to me that we have exported all our natural resources which is our educated people so I don’t expect better. I don’t vote in Dominica but regardless of which party is in power they should take care of the roads.

Do they ever finish anything in Dominica? What about the hotel in the swam in Portsmouth?

  5. Possie Direct
    May 16, 2018

Erika destroyed the bridge since 2015 and Skerrit has yet to rebuild the bridge back. Now Maria destroyed the South bound side of the Layou bridge which means the north bridge is under serious pressure and I hope that too is not compromised yet. Boy wouldn’t it be something else if it falls to see those jack**** from Portsmouth and the north that keep voting Skerrit, to find themselves in a position where they can’t go Roseau? That’s what they deserve as a reminder of their stupidity

    • Possie Direct
      May 16, 2018

I should also add that it would be nice if the Layout bridge would collapse the morning of the RED DAY, before anyone crosses just to protect lives, so those from Portsmouth going to the red day event would be stock like when those Egyptians were stock crossing the Red Sea Red Day a red Sea experience would be cool

Under Skeroo the whole of Dominica is compromised !

Skerritt must go for Dominica to develop.

    May 16, 2018

The prime minister received so much money “WORLDWIDE,” why didn’t he consider fixing Dominica’s infrastructure first. He received money for Erica & Maria, where is all that money. He haven’t done anything in the country, therefore; all bridges should be replaced at this time. If Dominicans were taking note they would have noticed all the money that that flowed into the country during both disasters.

    May 16, 2018

Someone should write a song paying homage to builders of that OLD MACOUCHERIE BRIDGE.
They did not have education on paper but the wisdom they had was all they needed. They had Master degree in COMMONSENSE which is not prevalent today.
They many workers who cross that bridge when Howell Shillingford had this estate and the conditions and pay was so meager. The Banana farmers from Grois Morne who use this road until Dense gave them an alternate road. The alternative would be wading in the river water to get to the otherside or pass on the beach through to Mero. Oh Lord Help us are going back to this era.

That Old Machoucherie Bridge. Engineers should Study this bridge. It has withstand so much yet, it stands solid as a rock. Who built this bridge. Was it Dominicans? Did they have Degrees on paper?
This government needs to invest in good, solid structure. Mediocre should not be acceptable.

  10. May 16, 2018

I must comment the Government on the rebuilding effects. However their are things that need special attention. These bride along the main high way road need to build. And build better.
I think government procrastinate way too long.

Instead of moving forward as most countries do, Dominica is in reverse gear courtesy of a rogue regime. You all mark my words in a few years time you all will walk to Roseau again unless you can afford a really heavy duty SUV, tank or a helicopter. Less than 20 years and Skerrit managed to break Dominica. Well done all you red fools. I hope you are proud of yourself!

The infrastructure of the country is crumpling like everything else. The roads, bridges and roadside cliffs with protruding boulders need immediate attention. Every time people travel on some of these roads and bridges they are actually risking their lives. So many things to be done and so little has been accomplished that a sense of anxiety, hopelessness and apathy is presently gripping the populace. Father come down.

When all u ready to strike for that I in that ! Every day we putting our lives at risk and there is no alternative route!

Is foolish mentality like yours that cause Dominica to be in the mess that we in today. You guys keep making Skerrit feel he is Good Almighty, yet nothing on the ground to show as success. Anybody can lie, anyone can be dishonest, corrupt and selfish. That’s all he has been as evidenced by his 14 years as pm. Boy look a foolish nation

  26. winston warrington
    May 15, 2018

Compromised?? The engineering term is “collapsed” or complete failure as far as vehicular use is concerned. I assume that the failed structure is being used despite’ its unstable condition. There was displacement at the support of the span which must be replaced or stabilized; but above all else, why was this structure approved?

  27. The accursed thing
    May 15, 2018

DNO you call that compromise? Boy what we seeing and hearing is an indication of where Skerrit has Dominica today. The bridge was destroyed by ERIK in 2015. Since Erika the lazy, corrupt and inept government did nothing to build any of the three bridges that got damaged. In fact to be fair to Skerrit he did build baily bridge but they to got damaged twice and thank GOD there is a little estate bridge that was built in the 40’s, a and that’s what saving us. DOMINICA is in serious trouble under Skerrit and if he has to continue for another year or two, Dominica will be finished. But his wife and two children are very safe in their US Condo while Tony’s wife and son are very safe in their Weston, Florida mansion. If is sort all you sort stay sort .

    • I want to know
      May 15, 2018

Ok, i understand your concern and get the point about Skerrit and his family well off but we just there putting Skerrit back in power everytime and Dominica is almost dead. But i have one question, when we take out Skerrit who we going to put there to run the country? I certainly have not seen any opposition leader that can help Dominica build back.

      • Ibo France
        May 15, 2018

        @ I want to know
Dominica is presently at its lowest ebb. The only direction that is left for Dominica to move is upward. The downward and sideways movements have been nullified. The country has been almost reduced to rubble by Hurricane Skerrit with his Category 6 devastating policies. Skerrit is fighting mightily to retain power for one main reason. He is mortally afraid that many of his corrupt practices will be unearthed once his party loses power.

      • The accursed thing
        May 15, 2018

@ I want to know you talking crap and sound like a pure blind hypocrite. Are you telling me me that a woman should see her man is unfaithful abusive to her, yet she should stay in the abusive relationship because she has not been a someone to replace him? In 2004, when Pierros died Skerrit was a junior minister that didn’t have a bicycle let alone car. Furthermore, the DLP had stalwarts like Austrie, Walters, Ambrose, Reviere to name a few, who all had a house, family and car. No one saw Skerrit because he had nothing, not even a wife. Yet he was made pm and has been since then though he has brought us to the abis. Last month Skerrit bought Joseph Isaac, made Austrie deputy Pm, along with Blackmoore and yet you can’t see anyone to replace him? I will not even talk about Lennox Linton, who should have been our PM since 2014 had his votes not stolen, because unlike Skerrit Linton has been a family man, well respected, had worker, honest and all what a wise person wants from leader

      • LifeandDeath
        May 15, 2018

You all are sick..Skerrit is the only one who “CAN”T” save Dominica. So don’t complain..Stay there and take it!!
You ppl need to wake up and stop hating your own…There is a formidable opposition in the UWP, if it is they can’t perform then get them out…Party Loyals Killing Dominica..

And you unwittingly made an important point nonetheless, Dominicans need to prepare to suck salt whether Regime change or not because this Gov’t have reversed Dominica so bad that it will take a period of sacrifice before positive change can come..this is not going to be magic like the flip of a coin change from tails to heads..and the opposition better let ppl know from the Beginning..Dominicans have aided Skerrit to “4-cop” so much that we’re in such a ditch, that we must get dirty to climb out first before we can see the light…Stop all you foolishness and get Skerrit out and see what the New Gov’t will do..Waste of time Government and ppl like u supported it too long!!

      • Mayo
        May 15, 2018

so you rather see Dominica continue on a downward spiral because your mind tell you we do not have an opposition. Just maybe the opposition do not know how to oppose but know how to lead. Give them a try and see. We can’t wait till Dominica goes under just because. That is a very superficial non substantive reasoning. Every country give another party a chance to see what they can do. But the hatred and evil in Dominica is so strong that people prefer the country go under. Evil hearts.

      • Dominica Lost
        May 15, 2018

wow, when Skerrit became PM by default, what was his qualifications????

Also, this “if not Skerrit, who” is old and has been played toooo many times. Skerrit came into this game; as the PM as a novice….. remember he was not elected back in 2003, rather he just slid into the PM chair. SO IF SKERRO CAN DO IT THEN SO CAN THE LEADER OF UWP & FREEDOM, if given the chance.

Finally, the country should not be ruled by one man but by a team, hence it is the Government of Dominica and not the Man of Dominica. Therefore a team; a collective body of intelligent and visionary people can manage the country and help rebuild Dominica’s drowning economy.

so really STOP THIS CRAP ABOUT IF NOT SKERRIT WHO? SKERRO IS NOT THE LORD AND SAVIOUR!!!

      • May 15, 2018

Ok so when Skerrit die, D/ca will stay without a leader??

After all these years…… this is a major “highway”. Why wasn’t more work done on this bridge? Soon another hurricane season wil start and more rain will only cause further damage to this. This bridge and the many others on their “highway” should have been top priority to the Government to get fixed. This is why of the many reasons Ross will not be returning.

“I question the motives of the people talking about the macoucherie bridge”, “Why are they bringing this up now, I question these motives”.

Because the govt is not it’s priority in terms of nation building all this monies and our major roads should be a priority as this hurricane season is coming.

  34. notinterestedintheleast soft drink
    May 15, 2018

To be honest this macoucherie situation is well deserved. I has been neglected since TS Erica in 2015. Three years later we still have these holes in the roads with no time line as to when the major “highway” to the north of the island will be fixed. We continue to pay the land owner for the use of his property in Macoucherie while we the people continue to pay road maintenance tax but our roads only continue to get concrete or tarrish in select holes. Shame. They said there is rehabilitation project for the road to the east, this has been in progress even before TS Erica. All this money we have why dont we invest in Road Repair Equipment that is modern and effective. 15 man for 3 pot holes in not good enough. Not in 2018.

Aye somebody, place an emergency call for the engineer or engineers who built the old Macouchiere Estate bridge. They are needed urgently to start building bridges and river crossings in Dominica. Those engineers of old apparently know what they doing compared to those that around now.

BUT WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN DAT COUNTRY DERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
