Greater moves are to be made in due course towards finalization of a model OECS legislation for children and families.
The legislation is now being looked at by the Ministry of Legal Affairs and there are plans to formally present it to the Dominica cabinet for approval.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), who has been working with Dominica in child abuse research, will assist with the presentation.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services, Gender Affairs and Community Development, Claudia Bellot said the model OECS legislation for children “covers also the family court. It provides the legal framework under which the family court can be established”.
The need for a family court to deal with cases of child abuse has been emphasized by welfare officials here.
what the hell is the legislation, give more details on it
don’t fgorget gjail jparents for beating kids, they abuse and call it discipline.
Long due! not onky to deal with cases of abuse but for child custodial issues..where fathers are not considered fit to be legal guardians or sole custodians for their children ….due to the fact that not physical abuse is evident..thaty i believe is bull shit!
everyone needs a listening ear and if a father cannot bring his case forward as to why he wants his son to be with..then when society blames lack of presence of fathers in the lives of most of the criminals at stockfarm!..court number 3 is the worst court cus the magistrate have a thing for women!
