Parliamentary Representative for Grand Bay Justina Charles is shooting down claims that “nothing is happening in Grand Bay”.

Charles told a ground-breaking ceremony of a new police station for that community that projects amounting to more than $13 million are underway in the southern community.

“I want to remind us that some $550,000.00 was spent on government housing repair programme for which a number of residents have benefited. The residents to Tete Morne can now boast of a new $327,000.00 resource center,”she said.

Charles says rehabilitation to part of the Grand Coulibrie road costing $115,000.00 also begun.

“Recently $200,000.00 was approved for rehabilitation of the Morpo Road and work has since started. As we move to the next level, work has begun on the $8.4 million Loubiere to Grand Bay Road Rehabilitation Project,” she added.

Well thank God that the little Grand Bay is getting today can’t be compared to the many things that labor party deprived the Grand Bay community. Any Government must maintain roads because they receive millions of revenue from vehicle licenses every year. People we also pay a price indirectly and directly for development of road projects.

The amount of $6,000 is spent on rental of property to house the policemen every month, multiply this amount by 12 months a year and get the logical sense of spending into something which will never be the property of the state. In a cost effective manner, the millions that are collected for drugs are being put back into the economy. Therefore, revenue from drugs and other crimes were meant to put back into the development projects to sustain economic growth, such as building the police station to ensure that our police officers are properly secured to perform their duties in a conducive environment.

Grand Bay people understand the development process closely, we need more and better sustainable development. What is the village council doing for the feeder roads? As a matter of fact what are the village council funds used for in the Grand Bay community? How long are these projects expected to last? Certainly not more than a year! This is only the beginning Mrs. Charles for Grand Bay. We deserve plenty more to lessen the social problems faced by the majority of under privilege families.

I recommend that you try to work with the candidate who represented the Grand Bay constituency to ensure that Grand Bay benefit from representation from you both in different areas. Do you believe in team work Mrs. Charles? use the expertise of your community people to take Grand Bay to the true level it deserves to be.

The projects listed above are social investment projects and not capital investment projects. Thesocial investment projects do not generate employment and income as the capital investment does, as a result the constituents complain. People need to be empowered this is important for their well being.
