In the spirit of giving during the Christmas season the National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) has presented financial donations to nine organizations and one family amounting to over $12,000.
The recipients are CHANCES, the Acute Psychiatric Unit, Wesley High School, Morne Prosper Catholic Church, Nemesis Football Club, Wayne Phillip Sports Academy, Rotary Club, Crime Stoppers, Dominica Infirmary and David & Vida Darroux who were affected following the major fired which occurred at Newtown on Friday 9th, October 2015.
Every year, through its donations and sponsorship programs, the NCCU returns a portion of its net surplus to the community by supporting worthwhile causes.
President of the NCCU, Dexter Ducreay, who was addressing the donation ceremony held that the NCCU conference room on Wednesday said the company is pleased to be associated with the organizations and assisting in fulfilling their goals.
“Couple reasons why we do that are one that comes to my mind, from looking at your work we know for sure that you are assisting in the development of Dominica, it’s Christmas time, it’s a time for giving…and thirdly, of course, it has assisted us in fulfilling one of our cooperate responsibility,” he said.
According to Ducreay, following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, the NCCU has assisted both members and non-members.
“For our members we waived the interests and differed the principle and for our non-members we gave over $100,000 in vouchers to all those who were affected by Erika, so we have been playing our part,” he noted. “We have given over $100,000 in scholarships to our members children and we are very happy to do that.”
He stated further that the NCCU donation budget is over $70,000 every year.
