NEP workers clean roads in Marigot

NEP workers in Marigot

Workers employed under the National Employment Program (NEP) have started cleaning roads in Marigot.

A resident in the area, Paulo Carlton said the roads have not been cleaned for years.

“But now the NEP is cleaning, trimming and removing unnecessary things that were by the side of the road. Our village is now shining as other villages are shining,” he said.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit said NEP was launched in Marigot recently.

He commended those in the area who made themselves available to work under the program.

“Marigot is ours, Marigot is ours to keep clean, to keep beautiful and to develop and all I can say to the people of Marigot that the government is with you and continues to be with you to help you through your challenges,” Skerrit stated.

We can seek to blame everybody for the situation in Marigot but for a village which was so outstanding due to the level of literacy and intelligence there, the people need to take a hard look at themselves.

In the same way that we castigate supporters of Mr. Skerrit for blind acceptance of his policies and actions don’t we in all fairness have to ask the people of Marigot a question or two, such as:
How long will you continue blind support to a party no matter who the leader is or what he does or whether he even knows you ?
Why don’t you with all the intelligence being ascribed to you ask yourselves where exactly are you headed? Where is the new Marigot mindset of negativity taking you?
Is there anyone on the ground with you assisting you to chart your development path?
Are you like the rest of Dominica likely to be negatively affected by the destructive maligning of Dominica in the international community?
How do you plan to take yourself out of this quagmire?

Here is the chief Skerrit apologist and spin doctor talking. The best thing she tries her best to sound impartial. Leave them people in Marigot alone, they have got something that you have sold a while ago for a few dollars: PRIDE, SELF RESPECT and LOVE FOR THEIR COUNTRY!

One thing I do know is that we Marigot is not easily bought we can and do fend for ourself. For my cousin Paul carlton to open his mouth and talk that crap, he first needs to look at his house surrounding Guest house and clean it as an example for other villagers. I hate when individuals like them is easily bought. Shame on you Paulo. You will never be a satisfy individual.

i remember vieille case and calibishie being 2 well kept villages in times past, what role does the ‘VILLAGE COUNCILES” play in the upkeep of the village? NEP could go to the farms to boost agriculture

With all industries, manufacturing and agriculture gone and nonexistent in the country, the government has reduced every young person in the island to an NEP job. Well if this is the future of our young, then honestly, we a DOOMED as a country.

I am just looking at these photos and suggest instead of cleaning those hillsides near drains we should start planting lemongrass or vertivere. It is hurricane season and There will be lots of rain. The slopes are bare so it is only going erode. We need to start covering these slopes with some form of vegetation to counter the erosion. That will help stable the soil and keep sediments in drains lower. The grass can be trimmed to look neat. It is simple science but effective in preventing erosion. I know counless places like this home. I am looking at the guy with the swiper and wondering what is he doing. Nust an observation.

It was about time that this sick turkey called skeritt stopped neglecting the people of marigot. While cleaning the roadsides are always welcomed, one must still wonder if Dr evil****************** better known as skeritt is thinking that the powerful people of marigot can be easily bought with this Johnny come lately move in the countdown to elections

You know the biggest problem in Dominica is a lack of foresight, strategic planning and upside down priorities. You are seeing folks cleaning the roadside-which is good – but what about the thousands of houses with roofs n tapolin black is white in Dominica. Time is surely running out on Dominicans as the hurricane season begins next month.
In a society of mendicanism n total dependency the poor folks will settle for odd jobs called NEP, whereby the well to do get the best parts of the pudding.
Is there any government minister who is without a roof and basic amenities?
Why is it that the poor people always suffer the most?
Why can’t poor blacks and kalinago people get top of the line housing like that of the ministers n the kabal?
Who is keeping an eye on price control?
Who is watching those involve in racket?
When will Dominicans say, enough is enough.
NEP or whatever they wanna call it, is like modern slavery and oppression.
To be poor is a crime. Dominicans must…

Why does it require NEP to clean the roads? A resident says the roads have not been cleaned for years.I would be ashamed to say that in public. If each homeowner cleaned the piece of road next to their house ,then Marigot would be cleaner & not have to wait on Govt. programs…

Marigot is a town. I believe the Council should be granted an annual sum to take care of the roads and other amenities.
