A new Executive Director for the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) will be appointed in 2016, Product Promotions Manager of the Discover Dominica Authority, Kathleen Cuffy-Jno. Jules has announced.

The DFC has been without an Executive Director since the departure of Natalie Clarke in 2014.

At a Carnival press conference after Clarke’s departure media was told that an Executive Director would be appointed to coordinate Carnival activities however the process has been delayed.

In fact, Cuffy-Jno Jules said a the first press conference of ‘The Real Mas’ 2016 held at the DFC office on Wednesday that the reason for the delay is due to the passage of Tropical Storm Erika which affected the island on August 27.

“I think in my mind, based on discussions at management level this is a process that has taken place in the past with the Ministry of Tourism as well as Discover Dominica Authority and DFC, so as we all can imagine, most of our time resources have been spent in rebuilding Dominica Post Tropical Storm Erika,” she stated. “The process has not stopped, it’s continuing and we should have an Executive Director in effect at least before the next World Creole Music Festival 2016.”

Meantime she said Carnival is fast approaching and everything is being done to ensure that, “we all have a great, safe and a fun-filled Carnival 2016.”

“This here sends a message that the pace has been set for this grand event and all other exciting activities which will form part of Mas Domnik 2016,” Cuffy-Jno Jules stated. “We have a very packed calendar of events.”

The DFC invites companies and institutions to come on board to sponsor Carnival 2016.

The headline sponsor of Carnival 2016 is telecommunication giant, FLOW.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “The Spirit of the Real Mas.”

The official opening for the carnival is January 16, 2016.

That is our problem you see. Whenever something bad happens we first want to find who is to blame as if that solves the problem. Then we do nothing and instead of fixing the problem and make sure it does not happen again we just going on blaming each other. That is a Dominican disease and I hope that can change in the new year because we will never move forward if we do not do that. Fix the problem first and then look for the guilty party if you have to. Happy New Year!

You know, I am still wondering why Nathalie Clarke left. Was she “invited” to go or did she really leave of her own accord? What ever it is, that can not be an easy job trying to satisfy people that have all different demands, on a limited budget. I don’t know if I would want that job, honestly.

What does the TS Erika have to do with getting a DFC director. Natalie Clark left in 2014, Erika came in August 2015, and Erika is being blamed for the delay? What was done to put a director in place between 2014, and August 2015, when Erika came. We need to stop blaming so much on Erika. There are many conditions and situations that have been as they are for a long time, no correction or improvement done, and we blame it on Erika. Erika did delay some processes, but that is NOT the cause of all the lack of attention for many things that need to be seen to. Is it because of Erika that Roseau is still in the condition it is in, with garbage everywhere, smelling gutters etc? I thought it was said that they were going to clean up and make Roseau the “PRIMIER CITY OF THE CARIBBEAN”., that was in 2009, we are still waiting
