New executives were installed to govern the affairs of the Lions and Leos Clubs of Dominica for the 2012-2013 Lionistic year in a ceremony held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Evergreen Hotel
Evander Joseph was installed as the President of the Lions Club while Junior Toussaint was installed as Leo President
They both gave a brief overview of their plans for the 2012-2013 years which similarly bordered on continuing to serve and assist the less fortunate of the Dominican Society. They were also encouraged to continue in that vein by the guest speaker, Gloria Shillingford, Minister for Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs, who thanks the Lions and Leos for the dedication and commitment towards alleviating the plight of the less fortunate and featured speaker.
Evalina Baptiste, Chief Magistrate also commended them for their service and encouraged them to continue to do all in their power to better the worth of those less fortunate.
A number of awards were also handed out and a few presented, namely, Leo of the Year Junior Toussaint, Lion of the Year Russell Wilson. The Club was also privileged to have received three awards at the recently held Multiple District 60 Convention in Trinidad where the club was represented by the contingent of 14.
Awards received were Lion of the Zone in the person of Louisiana Dubique, President of the Zone – Diana ANgol and Secretary of the Zone – Janice Hypolite. Dominica is a part of Zone 2C which comprises of other clubs inAntigua, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat. A Pin was also presented to Past President Louisiana Dubique from Lions Clubs International for attaining positive membership growth during her year – 2010-2011.
The Lionistic year runs from July 1 to June 30 and this year the Clubs will be headed by Lion Claudius “Tony” Buncamper, MJF of the St. Maarten Lions Club under the theme “We Still Believe” with focus being primarily placed on Leos who are seen as the breeding ground for Lions.
Lion Chantal Schaminee of the St. Maarten Lions Club will service as Region Chairperson and Lion Louisiana Dubique of the Dominica Lions Club will serve as Zone 2C Chairperson.
The Dominica Lions Club is a member of the International Association of Lions Club, a nonprofit service organization with approximately 1.3 million members in 207 geographical locations.
