Nothing unusual in heights of Morne Prosper – report

A team from the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SCR) has concluded in essence that there is nothing to worry about when it comes to certain occurrences in the heights of Morne Prosper.

The team consisting of Dr. Erouscilla P. Joseph and Dr. Frederic Dondin visited the area recently after residents painted a picture of doom and gloom in an area called Robinson Heights.

According to the residents, it appeared as if a bomb was dropped there with dying fish, blue sulphur rising from the earth, drying rivers, landslides and land sink-ages.

In their report the team said the visit was to determine, “as far as possible, what the nature of the reported and observed incidents was, and to try to determine if there were any implications for the volcanic systems in the area”.

The team concluded the occurrences in Morne Prosper is nothing more than a “mass wastage problem, which is not unusual in Dominica or in any of the other islands in the Eastern Caribbean.”

Mass wastage or mass wasting are the terms generally used to describe the movement of large amounts of material such as rocks and soil downhill under gravity. It can be triggered by a number of factors including earthquakes, volcanic eruption and flooding.

With the assistance of local residents, the team also visited Luadat and Wotten Waven and concluded that there were no increased signs of geothermal or volcanic activities in these areas due to the landslides in Morne Prosper.

Skerrit is going to cause a massive volcano like the one in Montserrat about 10years ago he is going to blow up the whole island, better have an evacuation plan by boat because you will not have time to jump on a plane.

When you tell it like it is you are fired by the University of West Indies, check out the story of the UWI Professor in Jamaica, who was fired because he documented the relationship between HIV and homosexuality.

This is totally unpolitical, I agree with you and give you the thumbs up. As a graduate of Mona I’m beginning to questions some of the positions taken by the University.

let the professionals do their jobs since we the locals do not have the knowledge and capacity to determin the cause of these occurrences.. how ever you all said ( that there is nothing to worry about when it comes to certain occurrences in the heights of Morne Prosper.) then is is said that (Mass wastage or mass wasting are the terms generally used to describe the movement of large amounts of material such as rocks and soil downhill under gravity) and what can trigger these? (It can be triggered by a number of factors including earthquakes, volcanic eruption and flooding.) soooo if that is true…. why do you say (that there is nothing to worry about??????? ) isnt that something to worry about? maybe im misunderstanding something..

Geothermal exploration releases heavy metals including Arsenic, Boron, and Mercury into the water table. This destroys fish and fresh water life and contaminate drinking water for taste colour and purity. In addition high quantities of Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) are released and, being heavier than air, will accumulate at low lying areas. This has been known to decimate a village in China which was close in proximity to the geothermal exploratory area. So what you see on the surface is negligible compared to what is actually going on below .

So I man staying high in more ways than one.

My question is, doesn’t geothermal plants cause tremors or earthquakes?
