Tropical Storm Ophelia is disorganized but producing 65 mph winds.
At 11 am, the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 13.6 north, longitude 47.6 west or about 950 miles east southeast of Dominica.
Ophelia is moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue today with a turn to the west-northwest expected by tomorrow.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (105 km/h) with higher gusts. Slow weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours due to strong upper-level winds. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 230 miles (370 km) mostly to the north of the center. A buoy located to the north of the center recently reported 1-minute mean winds of 63 mph (101 km/h) and a wind gust of 78 mph (126 km/h).
This system is forecasted to be near the island chain by Saturday. Residents in Dominica are advised to continue to monitor the progress of this system as we continue to keep you updated.
