Power company, DOMLEC, has reported that 2,293 customers have been connected to the power grid since the passage of Hurricane Maria in September.
According to latest figures from the company, 1,084 customers are connected in Roseau and 1,209 in Portsmouth.
Areas in the upper Goodwill area including Munro Street, James Lane, Edens Lane and a portion of Terrel Lane, have been energized.
The Forestry Division, Alliance Francaise and UWI are now in a position to be reconnected.
A portion of River Estate was also energized which includes the first two streets after EH Charles’ warehouse.
A Cuban team continues to build the interconnection between Padu and Fond Cole, while the state college and the prison are expected to be energized this week.
Work in the Canefield Flat area continues and is expected to be energized this week.
Work has begun in the Castle Comfort, Stockfarm, and Upper Goodwill/St. Aroment areas while work will begin in Tan Tan, Tibaie and Roseau Valley next week.
The company’s distribution infrastructure was severely damaged or destroyed during the hurricane.
People give DOMLEC a break nuh….do you know in Florida months after the hurricane they had..there are still some places without electricity? You would expect with a big power company and thousand of employees!!….is not robots that connecting us back..its humans …..
good job DOMLEC so when are you guys coming to fondcole… i mean we are literally right there above the power station!
Hope DOMLEC is using storm-proof lamp posts etc because, god forbid, they could be doing this again next year.
We in Upper Goodwill want to know why Dupigny Lane, Grants Lane, Franklyn Lane, Francis Lane, Churchill Lane and Rose Street were all bypassed to get this section of Upper Goodwill energised. It is bad enough to be screwed by your gov’t but for DOMLEC to be this selective too is disgusting.
Hello and good afternoon my people. Well am very greatful that some people and businesses are being connected but with this rate it will take them at least three years to reach my community. Why can’t they hire every available electrician in Dominica and bring people in from Trinidad and Jamaica to help rebuild the grid.
People the faster DOMLEC restores power the better for them to collect monies, so really I think they working as fast as possible….after all it’s a win-win situation.
You are correct. DOMLEC stands to benefit from restoring electricity. It is their business. I am certain they are doing their best. While I recognize that some of the other nationals are eager to have electricity restored in their home, they must be patient.
I am moving my business to GENLEC
Dam u people man. Give them a break to work. Stupes.. Tomorrow allu will get light every village. Feel better now.? This is June Reporting from Domlecs desk
Really June? However, I agree with you.
So that means it’s Government buildings/some schools, Businesses and The people on the hills that have electricity!!! With a population of About 72,000 people that to me can’t be news to be happy about. ..
Keep up the good work domlec
What about Salisbury. Please work vigorously to get us back on the electricity grid. We need our fans. It’s hot on the hill
What about Pte Mitchel it was the hardest hit , and no one is talking about restoring power ? what is the estimated time when pte Michel will get back power.
next year nuh, at the rate they’re going
Is Cochrane part of the Roseau valley plans? I hope so. Because is only 3 poles that fell down in Cochrane.
That’s right and many of the lines are still in tact.
