Parliament meets tomorrow

The First Meeting of the First Session of the Eight Parliament will be held at the House of Assembly in Roseau on Thursday, February 4th 2010, the first convening of Parliament since the Dominica Labour Party captured eighteen (18) out of the twenty-one (21) seats in the December 18th  2009 General Elections.

Items on the Order Paper include the Administration of Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance and Oath of Office to Speaker and Deputy Speaker. There will also be the Administration of Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to Members.
As is customary at the start of a new Parliamentary Session, there will be an address by the President of Dominica, His Excellency, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool.

The Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit will seek parliamentary approval for the Schedules of Supplementary Estimates of Expenditure for the Fourth Quarter of 2009, amounting to twenty-two million, five hundred and seventy-seven thousand, one hundred and fifty-three dollars and fifteen cents ($22, 577,153.15) and for the first and second quarters of the 2009-2010 fiscal year amounting to thirty million, one hundred and seventy-seven thousand, six hundred and ninety-one dollars and thirty-five cents ($30, 177,691.35).
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, who also has responsibility for the Dominica Social Security, will also present to Parliament the Dominica Social Security Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2008.
Minister for Tourism and Legal Affairs, Hon. Ian Douglas will lay on the Table the Integrity Commission First Annual Report for the year ended August 31, 2009.

Minister for Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Dr. John Colin McIntyre will present the Invest Dominica Authority Financial Statements for the year ended June 30, 2008.

There is also a Bill standing in the name of the Prime Minister on the Order Paper (Departure Tax Act 2010) as well as a Bill standing in the name of the Minister for Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs, Hon. Gloria Shillingford (Seventh Day Adventist Church Incorporation(Amendment) Act 2010.
During this First Session there will be the appointment of persons to serve on the Parliamentary Proceedings Broadcasting Committee, the Public Accounts Committee, the Privileges Committee and the Standing Orders Committee.
