Roseau, Dominica-October 18, 2010— PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd, a recognized Dominican joint venture company, is meticulous about acknowledging the Laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica. This rule applies in all sections of the company’s business; therefore the area of Labour is of no exception.
Part of the company’s overall undertaking is to provide for all our employees a work environment that is equitable and makes provision for all the privileges that are in keeping with the country’s Labour Laws, including the right to be represented by a Union of their choice. In fact, two (2) different Unions have shown interest in representing the staff of PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd.
There is no doubt of PDV Caribe (Dominica) Ltd.’s recognition and appreciation of the right of its employees to be represented by a Trade Union of their choice. In fact at two staff meetings held management informed employees of that right.
Presently, two Trade unions are seeking to be recognized as the bargaining agent for our employees. This matter has been referred to the Labour Division. This process will involve the conducting of a poll to determine which Union has majority support.
In the interim, it is premature to accept and respond to any of these two Trade Unions which seek to represent any employee of our company.
@The Third Side: What do you have in your Cabessa? Trash instead of brains? In this 21st. century you talking foolishly and wickedly about a company, partly foreign owned, operating in Dominica, without employees or workers being represented by a TRADE UNION of their CHOICE? Have you read about the struggles of Dominicans like E.C. LOBLACK and other Trade union Stalwarts, fighting for workers rights?
Do you understand how firms or businesses have trampled and still could trample on their workers rights? Do you want workers to exercise their GOD- given RIGHTS? Do you know about EXPLOITATION of workers? What work are you engaged in? Do you work at all? What kind of person would be working and just stand there and allow an employer to treat him or her as he/she pleases, especially if that worker is a genuine, hard-working person? You must be a MORON of the highest order Third Side.
Jump high or low, PDV must allow its workers to be represented by any Trade union of their choice. Trade Unions have every right to fight hard for workers of Dominica. PDV cannot prevent that , not in Dominica. The Trade Unions must be ever VIGILANT and not be pressured by any company. PRESS ON. SEEK representation for the workers at PDV. PDV must comply.
PDV, please stay far away from any union….they are trouble, they will stifle growth.
Attlee, No fancy language and vague semantics should be used to couch your (PDV Caribe’s) reluctance to OBEY the law of the land! You’d better take all necessary and proper steps to allow DEMOCRACY to prosper in this here Independent nation, and place NO obstacles in the path of the Trade Unions . We’ll be watching YOU!
