Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has extended condolences to the families and victims in the recent terror attack in Brussels, Belgium.
On his official Facebook page on Thursday (March 24), the Prime Minister said Dominica condemns all forms of terrorism.
“I extend condolences to the families of the victims and the Government in the Brussels, Dominica condemns the attacks and opposes all forms of terrorism,” Skerrit said.
His statement followed three explosions that ripped through the Belgian capital of Brussels on Tuesday (March 22) killing at least 31 people and wounded 270 more, according to Belgian media, and raised the reality of terror once again in the heart of Europe.
Belgium is presently observing three days of national mourning.
The so-called Islamic State (IS) has said it was behind the attacks.

What does it matter? People should look for nothing from others. Our duty is to offer our condolence to them. Consider there are Dominicans who reside in Belgium. Furthermore, it is part of Europe. Consider the Dominicans in other parts of Europe.

I understand you frustration, the memory of such atrocities should ache our hearts as African descendants. Nonetheless, we need to remember that took place 216 years ago, a much shorter period than when our African ancestors sold our forefathers into slavery.

Yet I cannot help recalling that Mr, Skerrit was conspicuously silent when an act of domestic terrorism was committed on a retired magistrate. We cannot forget that fateful day when an attempt was made on the life of a senior citizen and the prime minister refused to condemn the heinous crime. But somehow he has found the moral courage to condemn another act of terrorism, albeit of a higher level of magnitude.
But terrorism is terrorism, and the firebombing of the house of a retired magistrate and his wife in the early hours of a Christmas morning was serious enough for the prime minister to condemn, but he failed this primary test of executive decency.
Charity, as they say, begins at home.
