PM, Opposition leader to consult on top cop

Acting Police Commissioner Daniel Carbon

Dominica News Online has been reliably informed that Opposition Leader Hector John and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit are to meet this week to consult on the appointment of a new police chief.

The source also said acting police chief Daniel Carbon is widely tipped to be given the green light for the job.

Carbon’s tenure as acting police chief expires on December 31.

His appointment as acting police chief has not been without controversy as Opposition Leader Hector John claimed he was not consulted by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, as dictated by the Constitution.

The two parties are expected to meet on Thursday.

The commissioner looks tired, and bitten up. I wonder if he is up-dated with the morden technologty to fight these modern crimes?. Do they give these officers emotional support?. Dominica is definately not the Dominica 10 years ago. Not even police headquaters have metal detectors. To fight any war, your members has to be fully protected and armed. Please PM, we have no defence fource, so protect the men you have fully. And if something goes wrong, you know you did your best. The best in 2013. ‘God Bless My country’.

I don’t care if the person is black or white if they cannot do their job, which tax payers are paying him for, get out, and let someone else do the job. Is not just going to Barbados for trainig, but this lawless Dominica is going through, we need to ask the Government of the USA give more upgraded training, because the training in Barbasdos by our police officers might be outdated, because we have more hardened criminals now. We need technology in fingerprits, video camers, breath test for alchol, and all law enforement should have bullet- proof vests. We have a ‘DOMINICAN CONSULATE’ ON 42nd street and 2nd Avenue in New York City the biggest City in the world getting paid and not being pro-active. Dominica has outdated technology, dealing with mordern criminals. We need roads, etc, but if we have a lawless society with no way to fight them, how are we going to live in a civil society.

The Police Service in Dominica is a big joke…It doesn’t matter who is the Commissioner of Police, things will continue to be lawless in DA until the following happens: No Political interference in the administration of the Police Service; Police Officers are held accountable when it comes to performing their duties and enforcing traffic laws, such as wearing seat belts, helmets, overtaking, and overall use of Country’s road; respond in a timely manner to criminal investigation and complaints by Citizens for Protection against criminal acts; and implement proactive measures to prevent criminal activities….

I suppose that Mr. H. John has forgotten that the PM is an illegal PM and so anyting doen by him whether in concert with or without Mr. John is illegal. Mr. hector John cannopt have hiscake and eat it. He and his party has labelled the PM as an illegal PM. Yet tiem after time we see Mr. John gladly accepting invitations to consult with the PM and when he is not satisfied with the level of consultation, he and his leaders, not followers, attempt to put boots on theground reminding us al that the PM is an illegal PM. Are you serious Mr. John?

If the opposition leader gets involve in the MOCKERY, he really deserves all the insults and abuse Skeritt and Crew have meted to him on the recent ‘appointments’. They have showed you that they have rejected all decorum in doing this so just let them have their way.

It it the same opposition that says that the election process is flawed yet they still partake in it, thus ‘legitimising’ the corrupt process.

I am of the view that this is the man best suited to take the police force into the future. His intergrity and knowledge of the job and his youth is what the force needs right now and he has alot of years to continue serving his country that will allow him time to see programs come to fruition. I recommend to both the PM and Oppositon Leader Mr Daniel Carbon as the Police Chief of the CDPF. There is no better individual for the tasks ahead. Mr Carbon stay focussed sir and you have what it takes to be a successful Chief of Police. I look forward to your tenure sir.
    Congrats in advance.

I guess we have to respect each other’s opinions but I fail to be convinced by your reasoning. There are persons more qualified, experienced and intelligent than this gentleman to head the police force.

Tell me, does it really matter anymore? Consultation!!!!! Go ahead Mr. PM, it is your country. You and Tony own it. Do as you please. If you want to appoint Mr. Carbon…Go ahead!!! Consultation or not, it is according to your wishes.

As you operate only at the dictates of the “law” according to Tony and not morals, pinciples, values and statesmanship, consultation means little in law…so please proceed with your appointment whether you do so in accordance with the constitution of Dominica or in accordance with some red herring foreign doctrine like necessity, regularity etc.

In any event, you must be very pleased that the investigations into the Emmanuel matter is going no where. You must be pleased that Isidore cannot be served. You must be pleased that Corbette cannot be touched etc. etc.

At least, you have recognized the need to follow the constitution for once. We wish Mr. Carbon the very best as he settles more permanently in his chair as Commissioner. We look forward to good things from you sir.

    Respectfully
    Roseau Valley

A white man will never be in charge even if Interpol recommends it -Dominicans will be outraged but interestingly enough you do allow a Lebanese to run your country.

Carbon may be doing his job as commissioner but he need to be a bit more finess in his speeches to the nation. He speaks to the nation as if he is talking to some drunk men in a Cabaway or rum shop.

And he must also remember that when his ship has sailed its course he has to return to the port from whence he came.
