Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has added his voice of sadness and sympathy with France in relation to the recent terrorist attacks against innocent civilians in Paris.
At least 129 people were reported dead and more than 350 wounded in the attacks across several parts of the French capital on Friday which have now been claimed by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a Development Partner’s Conference at the Fort Young Hotel on Monday 16th November 2015, the Prime Minister said he was saddened by the entire matter.
“Today, I express my sadness and sympathy to the Government and people of France and assure them that they remain in the prayers and good wishes of all Dominicans, living at home and abroad, especially in the neighboring French Departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique,” he stated.
The Prime Minister said France was one of the first countries to respond to Dominica’s cries for help following the havoc of Tropical Storm Erika in late August.
“Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen…it is good to be in the company of friends! I say this against the backdrop of the uncertain and most unfortunate state of affairs in the French capital of Paris…” he said. “France is a long standing and reliable friend and ally of Dominica. We therefore felt the pain and outrage of the government and people of that beautiful country, as a result of the unprovoked and barbaric killing of scores of innocent people last Friday evening.”
He added, “When on the morning of August 28th, 2015, Dominicans woke to assess the damage and destruction wrought by Tropical Storm Erika, the Government of France was one of the first partners to respond in that hour of urgent need.”
In a new video, ISIS has warned of further Paris-style attacks on countries taking part in the bombing of its stronghold in Syria.
In the footage, the terror group also specifically threatens to ‘strike’ Washington DC due to America’s central role in the airstrikes.
And it warns European countries that Islamic State terrorists are ‘coming with booby traps and explosives’.
