PM Skerrit calls on community unity to fight drug trafficking

Prime Minister Skerrit

Government says it will spare no effort to stop those involved in drug trafficking and the sale of illicit drugs.

In his remarks at the fifth inaugural meeting of the Trafalgar/Shawford/Fond Canie village council Friday, Prime Minister Skerrit called on Dominicans to stand strong against drug trafficking.

“At the end of the day if we do not work together, if we do not work with the police, and work with law authorities here to put an end to this, it is us who live in Dominica who will be affected directly and indirectly, and we have to ensure that this country continues to be the safest not only in the Caribbean, but indeed the entire world,” Skerrit warned.

Skerrit reminded citizens that they must join hands with the police and government to arrest the problem.

“They require the support of everybody in Dominica to play their part in sending a message to these criminals,” he affirmed.

i am impressed that the government wants to weed out drugs. so why a few months aback the senior magistrate was complaing about magistrate tyiani ways of handling things?

i thought that he was doing a pretty darn good job, cleaning out the neighbourhood.

her actions leave me to believe that … something is amiss somewhere…. you tell me where!

i very much doubt that the criminals are not the only ones eating from the forbbiden fruit.

do you have any on your platter right now?

Police Officer…..Then I would suggest that you shoot to kill on those chases……I undestand your frustration, but on the other end of things, what about the officers who steal drug eveidence and steal evidence money….We can go back and forth talking about the few crooked punks in the bunch…..

To my coast guard partners…..you have to protect yourself….Leave no witnesses and make sure that there is some evidence of drugs and money….Send a message to these drug and human traffickers…..waste those f_ _ kers.

    My humble opinion!

Police coast guard had to chase a boat last year after it was suspected of drug trafficking. The police was successful in stopping the boat, but not before its load was dumped into the sea. About $1 million, euros, and $ US were found and taken. But guess what, the Venezuelans who were caught went scot free and their boat returned to them much to the chagrin of the police who risked their lives to capture those drug dealers.

WHY? Why? Why should that happen in Dominica? Just recently another nine Venezuelans were again caught after the police had a long chase. Again diplomatic moves between countries may prove more effective than our courts or justice system. Remember the issues concerning HUMAN TRAFFICKING of Haitians? What about that case? How long since? There were calls and outrage that the judicial system was being tampered with. That case may never go through. Guess why? So many criminal activities take place, white collar crimes that go untouched. $$$$$$ wherever it comes from or whoever it comes from is none of our D***** business. Let’s be real my people.

Many Dominicans up to this day still support the persons who grabbed millions from passport sales. No Layou River hotel built up to now. That’s OK. So, work together to do what? To continue to allow ‘big wigs’ to flaunt the law and get away with it? Give me a break.

Watchful….Why is this such an idiotic statement….All he is saying or asking is that the public assist law enforcement in order to stop those involved in drug traffickng and sales. At the end of the day if we do not all assist, it is our houses, businesses, parents houses and vehicle that will be broken into and then the worst of it, we arethe ones that will be the morning the loss of our friends and neighbors who get caught in the crossfire.

All of you who beig so negative bout this are bogus and being political. Dominica can curb the drug traficking being stpping patrol and enforcing a no tollerance policy.

One of the Best practice in this regard is for politicians to disassociate themselves with the King Pings. There should be an eforceable policy that prospective politicans should not accept an donation or praphernalia or whatever from these drug Lords. Politicians need to make this distinct disconnection.
This would just be one step in the right direction. Many more initiatives are necessary in ths effort. Job creation, Youth Empowerment, Drug Education, Rehabilitation, Incentives. The concept of Demand supply Reduction, as well as stringent penalties should be high on the politicians agenda. Ultimately, more action and less talk is key too.

In the quest to stamp ouit DRUGS and the negative feedback it have on individuals we seem to forget that an Island wide educational program must be put into place and to make sure that every Schools, Organizations, Clubs and other different Chruch groups would have to be reached we need to educate everyone not only Youth ,Young Adults but Adults at large .
Most of all we have to start with the Parents and Guardians we must inforce the programs and hold them responsibil for their childrens lack of embracing the moment especially if they are under age, to legally set president so they my see that we mean business and we want to build a human society where all persons can achieve his /her potential to a happier and healthier community is all we need. .
We also have to deal with those in different sections within the Govr’t especailly the Police department if we cannot trust them then we are in trouble, I am sure their are some very good policamen and women doing excellent work but in any group we have a few disgrutled persons and those are the ones who turn a blind eye most likely because they maybe involved one way or other with drugs or those connected to drug tracking on the island ,an if so that is showing a negative attitude of the people towards the officers and something must be done to remove those in the force that are braking the law to enhance themselves at the expense of our children and community.

As a nation we ought to stand together in solidarity to confront all negative indulgencies, activities, and habits in order to have safe communities. We should not follow the patterns of other islands in the Caribbean such as Jamaica and Trinidad where you have to watch over your shoulders every time you are on the streets. In Trinidad the death toll is always on an increase on a yearly basis and one can’t even wear jewelry in public. We must therefore join together with the law enforcers and the PM to keep our island safe.

The more we oppose the call for unity the further divided we remain and inncocent lives perish in the process. It is not about the Government or the law enforcers but it is about us as a whole community and island.

Let’s continue to protect our beautiful island by remaining peaceful. Dominicais a gem in the Caribbean and we need to try to keep it that way. Charity begins at home.

Good approach Mr.PM. But please look deep inside the Police Force and root out those corrupt cops that are trying to serve two masters- the public and the drug lords. UWP did it once before but it is now time for a second round of investigations. I can assure you the findings will shock most of us. The public in general will not and cannot trust the police because of this problem
