Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed his gratitude to the members of the Barbados Coast Guard and emergency personnel for their heroic assistance after certain parts of the island was devastated by Tropical Storm Erika on August 27.

Skerrit, who was in Barbados for the One Caribbean: The Concert For The Children Of Dominica held at Kensington Oval on Sunday night, visited the Coast Guard headquarters on Monday.

The Prime Minister told journalists he would not have been comfortable if he had left Barbados without thanking the Coast Guard.

“The Coast Guard and armed forces here exceptional. I wanted to personally come here to thank them and express on behalf of the Dominican people, our profound gratitude and to say that we will never forget them,” Skerrit said.

He also thanked his Barbadian counterpart, Freundel Stuart, for giving the emergency personnel the permission to render such vital support to the people of Dominica in their time of need.

“They stayed for several days after the storm and only left last week, so they would have been in Dominica for several weeks supporting us. Their contribution was quickly needed and they executed their duties exceptionally well. All of them represent Barbados with distinction”, the Dominican leader said.

Since Tropical Storm Erika wreaked havoc in Dominica on August 27, members of the Barbados Coast Guard and Barbados Fire Service have taken part in several rescue missions on the island.

This was an excellent gesture on the part of the PM to travel to Barbados to thank everyone who exhibited their compassion and donated generously to Dominica.
Consider how much the concert could have cost and the cost of paying the performers. This was very kind of them to think of the children of Dominica and to put on such a concert.
Dominicans should ever be appreciative and to the Barbados Coast Guard who assisted.
You critics, the Barbados Coast Guard were not paid by Dominica but by the Barbados government. Some of you are negative and ungrateful, unhappy lot that you are who lack peace, cause division and disunity. Your day is coming.
The PM’s presence is much better than a telephone call, a card and an internet thank you.
A special thank you to all those who arranged the Concert and to the helpfulness of the Barbados Coast Guard while in Dominica.
    God bless them all!

Where does your comment come in here? Why did DNO allow it? It has no bearing on this article. Instead of thanking the B/dos Coast Guard you make such an out of the way comment. What is in your heart? Only hatred? Look out! Your day is coming and you know not when and how soon. See about yourself and think about yourself. Do you know what lies beyond the bend for you?

The 40 footer that park there for seven years jet drive problem sell it and get one like Trident for us or a 65 footer like what we had before. We need a bigger CG vessel for rescue, special operation, transporting sick people overseas but not to go and drop the passports you know.
The 65 footer we had was built in Morgan City Louisanna. So try getting one for us in Dominica for ourselves and to assist other islands in time of need.

Thank you Barbados, and especially the Barbados Coast Guard, for your fantastic assistance in our time of need.

It is commendable of Mr. Skerrit that he has recognized the heroic effort of the Barbados coast guard, but where was Dominica’s coast guard during tropical storm Erica? Was it swept to sea by her raging waters or did the boats sink during the torrential rainfall that she brought? Just keeping it real. Read between the lines.

Probably they are not as many and as equipped as the Barbados Coast Guard. Consider that they, too may have been affected by TS Erika.

“Skerrit, who was in Barbados for the One Caribbean: The Concert For The Children Of Dominica held at Kensington Oval on Sunday night, visited the Coast Guard headquarters on Monday.”

Mr. Skerrit, did the coast guard come to Dominica on their own accord or they were sent by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart? According to DNO, “The Prime Minister told journalists he would not have been comfortable if he had left Barbados without thanking the Coast Guard.”

You sure made a valiant effort to thank the coast guard; Did you make that same effort to thank PM Stewart who sent them? Though I saw you thanked him, but I am wondering if you made him look good like you did to the coast guard.

According to Ian, in his face you thanked the PM, but behind his back you betrayed him.

While I thank the opposition Barbados Labor Party for hosting the concert, it must had been very heart breaking for Prime Minister Stewart to see you, Mr. Skerrit, present at an event organized by the…

We as we are glad for the service of the defferent Coast Guards ( which was a system or an agreement set up by the Regional Security System RSS in times of disasters ) Guess the PM will have to travel to everywhere to thank them.

Why de red shirt for every little event? Mr. P.M you are not campaiging now, so put that red shirt aside and manage the country without fear or favour !

    • I, Me, & I Alone
      October 6, 2015

@ Da Massive, he had to use a red shirt because you all in Dominica need to understand that it was an event organized by the opposition party, which is Barbados Labor Party. Skerrit did not go to thank anyone; he simply went to a Labor party function despite the fact that the Prime minister of Barbados helped the malonett os much during Erika. The PM of Barbados was so hurt by the actions of our PM that he had to run out of Barbados and was represented by acting PM, just not to hurt his party at the polls.
