Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has received an honorary degree from the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The university said it was in recognition of his leadership and advocacy on climate change.
The Degree of Humane Letters was conferred on him at a ceremony on the university’s campus by President of the University, Dr. Ken Gormley on Tuesday morning.
“It is my privilege to confer upon you an honorary doctorate from the Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit celebrating this year its 140th year as a premier higher education institution in recognition of your many accomplishments,” Gormley stated to Skerrit during the ceremony.
He added, “He gets this diploma and he didn’t have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get this one.”
During the ceremony, Skerrit will deliver a lecture on “Building Climate Resilient Countries” as part of the University’s ‘Integrity Creation of Leadership’ series.
In 2016, Skerrit received an Honorary Doctorate from the Lovely Professional University in Punjab, India.

Don, I am not sure if you reside here in Domininca and in touch with what is happening in our struggling poverty Domininca. We in Domininca have had enough of 18 years of that Skerrit, the worse Pm to serve Domininca. We warned that this man is too young, lack leadership and experience and should remain as a minister for some years to learn and observe but his click got involved, propped him in and they know why and we now see and feel the results. It is painful having this Skerrit at the Helm of government. He is a big failure and not fit for the job and he must go. He travels the world, sells out passports to rouges and now Canada has invoked visa restrictions on us.
We have poverty in Domininca and while PM clown travels the world to gain awards, under his watch (blind) we no longer produce crops etc and our farmers and their families are struggling. We have had enough, Skerrit has reduced Dominicans to that as Haiti, a failed poverty state. Skerrit must go. He has Failed us.
Padna, I am with you, 18 years is ample time to grow an economy so you now have to beat him at the polls, campaign on setting term limits to win. Your attempt to vilify the man seems futile if he keeps beating you all the time. I must admit that presently he is missing the boat on legalizing marijuana while Jamaica that addressed the the issue seriously has recently already made their first shipment trading with Canada in cannabinol; while he Skeritt is still stuck with arresting and jailing his citizens caught with or smoking cannabis. He should already have taken action like Antigua, St. Vincent are already doing he needs do so to subsidize losses in agriculture among other things.
You must admit he made some winning moves aligning with China etc to gain some development projects. If you would not align with China, not partake in CBI, not travel, what would you do to develop the country? What’s your alternative plan besides bashing him? I want to know to vote with you.
I LIVE in Dominica. How have we been sunk into poverty? Are you comparing us to Haiti (btw Haiti is not as bad as the media is making it out to be)? You; my dear needs to travel.
What has Skerrit not done to satisfy people?
– Building of roads, bridges, schools, homes.
-Assistance in education, the small business grant, DYBT, NDFD,
-Free medical care for persons living with HIV Aids, , the social security scheme, Yes we care, NEP
-low-interest loans for agripreneurs (as low as 2%), mortgage loans, education loans
– investment in entrepreneurship, tourism…..
We gor hit by Maria, the December trough semester, TS Erica, and although things are not perfect (it was expected that this little island whose GDP was dragged back into the negatives, who’s resources was wiped clean would take years to get back on our feet). We did a fantastic job getting back up.
I have listed many and there’s more. So what have this wicked man done to bring us into poverty? WHAT POVERTY…
Folks what’s all the noise.. remember it is only symbolic, not a real doctorate studied for 7 years, many schools give those to contributors or people of their choice; Bill Cosby, Opra, Patrick John etc got them.. Even Mike Tyson got doctorates which proves there’s even no requirement to be literate. Not saying Mike is illiterate but folks it’s like keys to a city, doesn’t mean you now own the city. This only burns in our politically charged island where he rubs it in to the opposition to make them mod: with motorcade, welcome party with speeches, pronouncements to ‘call him Dr’…just for a symbolic recognition. Doe dig it’s not the same as Dr. Gonzalves, Dr. Keith Mitchel, notice they don’t refer to our boy as Dr when he attends regional sessions. Our sports reporter Sherone Burton just got one for reporting from his colleagues, except they’re not a university but essentially same thing. Not a big doctor deal.

Dominica needs more accolades, merits, and positive recognition radiated on it. There is so much potential in this small sovereign nation of ours despite what some may try to make it out to be. Keep being an advocate for positivity in your island, in our Dominica, and let the world know that we can be a champion in many aspects.

Roosevelt Skerrit would not have bought or made donation to the university direct himself. He is too smart for that. The doctorate was sponsorde by the university’s Center for Africans studies and I think it is legitimatie to ask if they received any donation from Skerrit’s agents, associations or front compagnies. Is this Center for African studies aware ofSkerrit’s role in selling out the people of the Western Sahara to the king of Morocco?
