PM Skerrit says DLP has elevated Dominica’s profile

The Prime Minister spoke on teleSUR English

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has said Dominica’s profile has been elevated and enhanced with the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in power.

In an interview with Latin American media outlet, teleSUR English on Tuesday evening, Skerrit said under the DLP watch, Dominica has established diplomatic relations with many countries, has seen a ‘revolution’ in education, has better access to health care and the island’s infrastructure has improved tremendously.

“First of all in terms of our foreign relations, we have established diplomatic relations with numerous countries,” he stated. “We have been in the forefront of integration processes like Petrocaribe, ALBA, CELAC. We have been part of the discussions from day one.”

Skerrit said education has improved in Dominica.

“In terms of the country itself, we’ve had an education revolution, for example, created tremendous access to education for all our children at all levels,” he noted.

He stated Dominica’s infrastructure has improved and there is greater access to health care.

“The infrastructure has improved dramatically, our health services have improved dramatically, access to health care, access to free health care,” he noted.

Skerrit also said the island’s economy has grown and expanded.

“We’ve seen the economy grow, we’ve seen the economy expanded, there is greater people’s participation in the process of the development of our country,” he said. “So we’ve really elevated the country’s profile, not only regionally but internationally.”

He stated that Dominica is small but is unafraid to speak its mind.

“Dominica, though a small country, we are not afraid to speak our minds and to represent the interest of our country,” he said. “For example, when we decided to become a member of ALBA, we were the first English speaking country to become a member of ALBA. That brought tremendous international attention to Dominica but also international impression but we recognize that there was an important step in the interest of the region and the interest of Dominica.”

He added, “So Dominica’s profile in the world has been enhanced since my party became the government in this country.”

Keep fighting Mr. Skerrit on insignificant matters and see how far it gets you all. Listen to the intelligent Dominicans such as Mr Frederick Baron. Grow up and bring up vital issues. CBI attack is obviously not working let’s talk bread and butter. Mr Skerrit is not invincible but effective opposition and all the pety comments from most of the contributors here continue to propel him forward. Keep insulting those who oppose the militant approach of the opposition and keep Mr Skerrit rooted in his position.

Nice post. However, you make reference to ‘God’. The eternal creator is the Lord God. The Elohim (plural ‘God’) are the fallen angels – Satan. If you wish to refer to our Lord the Father, I recommend you only use ‘Lord’, ‘Lord God’, or ‘GOD’. Elohim is a grammatically plural noun for “gods” or “deity” in Biblical Hebrew which refers to the fallen angels. There is only one GOD, our Lord God the Father. In Modern Hebrew, it is often referred to in the singular despite the -im ending that denotes plural masculine nouns in Hebrew.

The bible historian, Jonathan Kleck (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thisisit4321) can shed further light on this interesting matter if you wish to take this further.

I was in Da recently and I was surprised to see so many Dominica enjoying living in the same conditions that my parents lived in some 35 years ago. There was such a big rally in Possie ! How can these people be so comfortable with them selves?
Skerrit is not doing anything to improve the lives of Dominicans or develop the country , but still people are following him blindly for a cup of tea and a plate of food , Sick! Shameful!
It seems like Dominican like to be stuck in stagnation. Or they are scared of the unknown. All over the world nationals are changing their governments, But some strange reasons Dominicans seem to like the misery.

You are one-sided, narrow minded and bias. For one who resides in Canada, I expect you would be or become a broadminded person. It appears you still have much to learn and to broaden your mind.
Since when is it known that a government should improve the lives of nationals or is obligated to do so? The government can only do this to a certain extent and to provide some means of livelihood and housing for them.
What you implied is that they should sit back and let the government improve their lives. This is sheer nonsense.
You reside in Canada, you should know if the people do not help themselves, who will? The government gives those who are unemployed social welfare assistance. Those who once worked and are now unemployed and receive employment benefits including able ones who are social welfare recipients are expected to seek employment or attend some form of training for employment. It is mandatory otherwise benefits will be withheld.

Mr. PM. You forgot to tell us that Dominica has the third highest unemployment rate in the Caribbean. Also, what infrastructure has improved dramatically, A Bridge? How can you with a straight face, tell the country that the economy has expanded when we have a
GDP purchasing power parity of 206, behind Grenada, St Kitts, Antigua, Haiti, St Lucia, and St Vincent? The social indicators shows that 29% of households and 40% of the general population, live in indigent poverty. Pray to God to deliver you from you. God knows what is occurring in Dominica. He sees the wickedness of hearts. He knows your heart and that you are a wicked person, unjustly judging another.
Some of you are mistaken about God. You also underestimate Him and debase Him. This is a sin. You pray for Him to do harm to someone. If you are a genuine Christian, this is not what you would pray for. You are to wish no one harm and pray for others, wishing them well.
God hears prayers but He will not answer those ungodly prayers. Rather, He will punish you for not praying as you should, underestimating Him, taking Him for granted and placing him at par with his enemy, the enemy of our souls. As a Christian, should you not know better?

Look at the quality of individuals Mr. Skerrit was able to attract to Dominica, and let’s put our political biasness aside. Look at some of the very high profile men and women we were able to attract, and you would conclude that DA has been elevated and enhanced by the DLP:
    1. NG Lap Seng, a billionaire businessman. Very few Dominicans were able to keep a conversation with NG. Our PM sat with him, dinned with him, and we saw him in photo signing a contract with NG Lap Seng, 2 weeks before he was arrested and jailed by the FBI.
    2. In one meeting with former Nigerian Oil Minister and millionaire, Allison Madueke, he was able to convince her to get our passport, two months after she allegedly bribed Nigerians Electoral Committee. In fact when she was in trouble it was alleged that Dominica attracted her to the point that she wanted to come and hide here.
3.Aliereza Monfared another billionaire. He lived in DA for 6 months! Sadly he soon got arrested like the others.

Check the unemployment statistics of the US, Canada and Europe. These are so-called progressive countries.
The PM has given every child the opportunity for an education – to educate themselves.
Instead of blaming the government and expecting everything from the PM, teach the youths (female and male, girls and boys – not gender  ) to be serious about school. They are the future adults who, if they apply themselves, could graduate and do their utmost to seek employment and obtain it. They could also try to open their own business.

We have a lot to be grateful for! We have witnessed major achievements in education, ensuring that every young person can attain a proper and wholesome education. Before Roosevelt Skerrit came into office, only a select few were able to further tertiary level education at the college. Now we can boast that 1,500 students are accommodated at the institution. This government has attained universal access to all levels of education, to include early childhood and secondary school levels. The San Sauver, Newtown, Salybia Primary Schools, the new grammar school and the state of the art state college.

The DLP government has made indispensable contributions in all areas, realizing the need for beneficial change so the majority could rise!

Of course healthcare has improved underneath the DLP. Whenever the boys become ill, French helicopters pick them up at Lindo Park and fly them to Martinique for state of the art treatment, while the poor people are left to suffer and die at PMHS.
Marigot hospital improved so much underneath DLP, that “Wood Ants and Mold” had their fun with the building. The MRI machine wasn’t working for how long, before the repaired it. So the Dear Leader is correct in his assessment of things under DLP in the health care department. I will give credit for infrastructural improvements, but health care definitely not. I wonder if the PM told them that his wife had her kids in the US and she routinely flies up to New York for their annual “Check Up?”

  44. Ibo France
    May 10, 2017

Every chance the PM gets he blows his own trumpet and pounds his chest. The country lags far behind many of its OECS counterparts. Are Dominicans satisfied with the crumbling infrastructure, lack of an international airport, the anaemic economy, the starvation wages, the political divisiveness, the incompetence and biases of the Police Force? That’s just a few shortcomings. Mr. Skerrit too often engages in self-righteousness. God hates those who praise themselves. Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth (Proverbs 27:2)

    • Plato
      May 11, 2017

This is such an asinine statement. You all hear of things and hope to get an opportunity to use it and very often when you do it’s out of context and hence, irrelevant. Roosevelt Skerrit is a politician and the prime minister of Dominica. His interest in two prung; promote his party and promote his country. His achievements as prime minister strengthens his and his party’s position. It make sense then that he highlights what he has accomplished. Much as Digicel, flow and the other companies promote themselves and say we sponsor sports and culture.
This hatred of the man and the constant attacks is to his advantage and counterproductive to the opposition. I have said that before and was fiercely attack but it continues to show. Focus on bringing forward ideas which will rival those that he has and which will bring greater benefit to the Dominica people. Stop bashing him for silly reasons. It helps , not hurt him.

      • Ibo France
        May 11, 2017

@Plato I read about Plato. Sir, you are not even a distant cousin of this great man. Let me briefly address your asininity. First, one should not compare a Prime Minister with business entities such as Digicel and Flow. These two businesses, like any other business, are strictly motivated by profits. A Prime Minister’s duty is not to make profit but to create a wholesome and economically viable environment for every citizen and resident to strive. Dominica has light years to go in order to bring some semblance of comfort to the average citizen. There is little to smile about as you look around the country. Instead of boasting, Mr. Skerrit should hang his head in eternal shame as Dominica is the most underdeveloped country in the OECS. The PM would be much better off without foot soldiers like you, ‘Plato’, who will ruin him with false praise while I would give him a dose of reality.

” … our health services have improved dramatically, access to health care, access to free health care.”
Sir, are you serious? Why did you not give an interview to the local media houses? From where I stand, I must humbly disagree. Marigot still does not have a hospital, the one at Goodwill is currently under repair. Last week I went to the PMH suffering from a dog bite. This was at 3.00pm. I did not see a doctor before 10.00pm and then I was told to go to Bullseye pharmacy to purchase penicillin. Talk to me about improved/free access to health care

Amongst crooks and criminal enterprises. Yes. Dominica’s profile has always been high especially during the days of Eugenia Charles. Dominica has produced countless intelligent folks that continue to do great things away. They are sort after because of the talents. Sadly when these folks come home to help they are cast aside as traitors to country because they have progressive ideas. The brain drain continues. Today we have a perfect example of Thompson Fontaine on his way to the motherland picked up by the British for his talents. His 10 months cause and how he performs will continue to add to Dominica profile more than the labour party has done in 17 years. What the prime Minister fail to realize is the people of the country the raises the country profile as he continues to see the people he leads as poor, helpless, incapable, and dependent. Mr. Skerrit I judge you by your actions for words are just wind manipulated by your vocal cavities.
