Police arrest Haitian home invader

A woman believed to be in her late forties or early fifties in currently in police custody after she was found at the home of a Haitian couple in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

According to information reaching Dominica News Online, the woman entered the Copthall residence and was asking for the baby which the couple had one month ago.

“She entered the house and asked for the baby. Then she asked for water. The woman not crazy. She is from Mahaut. Either she is a witch or she is a thief but a thief takes things and she didn’t take anything,” the Haitian national explained.

“She then asked for some water and we didn’t give her. We called the police and she was arrested,” he added.

It’s a situation the President of the Dominica Haiti Friendship Association, Fransco Moise, has described as worrying.

“I got a call from the owner of Kings Garment at about 4: am and he informed me about the incident and we want the matter rectified. It is very strange,” he said.

“I am here to protect the Haitian people and I won’t want anything bad to happen to them. What I can’t understand is what the woman wants with a one month old baby,” he queried.

There are over 1000 legal Haitians living in  Dominica.

To all the Dominicans that say send haitians back you should first ask for Guadeloupe, martinique,St maartin, BVI, USA, Canada, UK, Anguila ” I cannot evn say antigua and barbados again because of freedom of movement” to send back your mothers, fathers sisters, brothers aunts, oncles, parain and marain that sending your barrels and western union checks for allu. I hate it when dominicans try to target haitians .. but dominicans at the bottom of the barrel and still trying to drag down and disgrace people when u are no better. DNO, I find this one very disturbing to me as a Dominican. I know you are so strict when dealing with comments (especially political comments against the government)and to see you put something like this in your news is really giving my country a bad name.
This news item is not from information gathered from the police; it is strictly from a Haitian couple and supported by Fransco Moise.
After reading this article and comments posted by fellow readers, I am left with many questions. Since according to you, police arrested a Haitian home invader can you please ask the police to answer the following questions:

1.How did the Dominican lady get in the house of a couple at 4am?
2.Did they open for her or did she break and open the door?
    3. Why did the couple feel so comfortable to entertain a person at 4am?
4.We are told she asked for two things; a. the baby b. water. We know according to the Haitian, they did not give her water but what about the baby? Did they give it to her to hold or anything?
    5. According to their information provided to DNO, they seem to know the lady very well cause they gave her age, village she from, she not crazy, implied that she is not a thief and one has to conclude that she is a witch. Why entertain a witch at this time of the day?
    6. If she did not break and open then why did the police arrest her?
To me these are important questions that should have been answered before this item made its way to the www since it paints an ugly picture of Dominica and the way we treat haitians in Dominica.

Went to Anguilla in 1990, saw ground provisions and plantain left in a booth. Asked about that. The driver told me that it was not abandoned but the persons who sell there are Dominicans. Asked why would they just leave their stuff out for people to steal. He replied that no one will steal since Dominicans are very good at voodoo! Just let not point fingers for we share the reputation too!

  17. Waitukubuli
    February 8, 2012

Really, my people need to stop talking about Haitians as if they are “nobodies”. Referring to them as “those haitians” isn’t nice at all.

Voodoo existed in Dominica long before the Haitian nationals started residing there, so stop behaving as if soukoyan and loogawoo activities were non-existent in Dominica.

Naturally, Haitians are very family-oriented and most work very hard to take care of their families, that’s more than I can say for many of my people. So, stop hating.

It is rather ironic that a Dominican national residing in the United States, whether legally or otherwise, still a stranger, yet calls for the deportation of another stranger in his homeland. How sad and selfish.

I am not saying those who misbehave should not be dealt with justly, but deporting one on the basis of nationality is not justifiable. The same amount of love God has for Dominicans, HE has for the Haitians. There will come a time when nationality won’t matter.

    • Waitukubuli
      February 8, 2012

With all due respect SXM, there are many Dominicans wreaking havoc in other countries – perhaps you are not one of those, but when that happens, the culpability is placed on all DOMINICANS. Is that fair? likewise, not all Haitians carry “their bad habbit” to other people’s country. Stop stereotyping.

There’s more to, Dominicans opening their doors to Haitians when they are not welcome elsewhere, this was the wrong move however our politicians bring them in the island for a reason, the Americans no longer welcome them that is the reason the coast guard intercept their boats on their waters

Since they begin to land in DA the island and it’s peoples are going down the drain, Haitians in the USA, they were all against president Obama, when you people keep saying that they are black, they do not like their own Haitian people what make you Dominicans think that opening your doors to them was a great idea, when they finish cut down all your trees, rent your houses then no one will be able to dwell in the houses etc it will be too late for you Dominicans

The woman entered the house and asked for THE baby. She did not put up a fight; the police was called and she just stayed there until they came to arrest her. That story does not make much sense. She is from Mahaut? How did she enter the house in the wee hours of the morning? Tell me more.

well it is well known that voodoo is part of the Haitian culture, but it does not mean that all Haitians are involved in that culture, also the Haitians are playing a good roll in our economy now they live, work and spend their money right here on like our people who go online or abroad to shop and live. something happen at that Haitian family home they did the right thing and call the police so lets not brand they. just a reminder Dominicans live all over the world and some do good things and some do bad.

    • February 8, 2012

If you were awear of the haitian movement you would see when they all gather at uniturstfer and western union sending back there money. First they dont pay incomtax, nor social security and the social security takes six months before they receive a card, not until they get the card they start paying because they lie to social security, thay they are not yet working, is only when they get a problem with there employer that they run to labour and social security, they do therr and four jobs and only one pays the social security. Haitian dont eat heavy, they ecornomise, involve in large sums of sub, which is a savings, they send all they way back to haiti for clothing anytime they have haitians coming to D/a and when the R.E.A.C.H has clothing for sale $50. they are always there, please look at there dressing, are they every dirty? So tell us apart from Mr. King and those who have buses and the bar-ba-shops, how many haitian gives back to the country. I am a Dominican and i am self-employ making a contribution to my country, they Haitians are sending back all thay they can to help there people and because of the way they lived there lives it makes it possible to develop there lives, they dont spend over the sum of money they have and they live a simple life. from nothing to something. So when you say they work and spend their money here. they cook a meal in the morning that takes them to work and satisfie them in the aftenoon, they dont take a large supper unlesss if they cook late. they work long hours to cover their expense and engage them self with their familes. So Giving, if you realy knows the haitian way better please explain.
