It is sad and distressing even for those who did not lose loved ones when Hurricane Maria struck and its aftermath.
We have all lost loved ones under different circumstances of natural causes and will in the future while our life lasts.

Lord, have mercy on the souls of those who died and are missing. We assume the latter have died.

My sincerest condolences to the families of those deceased. Erica and Maria have done so much emotional damage to my people. To this day so many are missing from both storms and we know without a body there can be little or no closure. I continue to pray for those who mourn and hope that you find solace in dealing with this tragedy. Death is no respecter of persons as we note there are children as young as one year. May God guide your path.

What they do not realize God is taking note of their words as embedded in their hearts. They will not escape His justice. Surely, if they are Christians and practicing ones at that they should know that.
They should refer to the Ten Commandments of God and practice it for the good of their happiness, peace of mind and their souls. Otherwise, they will have failed miserably to the end.

I keep getting drown with thumbs down by UWP supporters as if what I said is wrong. UWP and labor can criticize as much as they want but that won’t stop me. I am a free Dominican and I speak my mind and don’t care how it affects UWP or DLP. Enough is enough and it’s time we stand against the evils we see in Dominica. When it is good give credit to Skerrit but when its bad and I start to criticize people always seem to talk about timing and what we saying to the world as if the world doesn’t know the nonsense taking place in Dominica. When it’s time to give Blow-go- dowe is look what PM or parl rep send. But when I criticize them for telling Dominicans they should not listen to Q95, especially during a hurricane that the government was caught with their pants down, while Dr. Fontaine was on Q warning of a dangerous storm that was coming but people did not take heed. I saved my brother and family because they don’t listen to Q and their PM was on DBS misleading them. I upset man

Man a lot of people perished man. It’s sad especially some of those dead I knew them. My deepest condolences to their families and friends. We’re they all Dominicans? I ask because I did not recognize a Russian name and based on the store Hon. Collin McIntyre gave of a white friend of his that died, I was looking for her name either in the dead category or missing cat and I didn’t see it. The Hon Minister was not clear as to if she died during Maria or after. But he made it clear that she died as a result of heat stroke and he buried her. I know I tebe but will admit that the Minister confused me with her time of death because he talked about his birthday and so many things. He said they called him to say she died but I don’t understand it because all phones were down. He also said when he went to visit the dead body he met her big dog by her but no mention of a human not even the one that called to give him that sad news. So I am confused and just asking if she died in Maria…

Very dissatisfied to hear that bodies are found but can’t be identified. That is where forensic science comes in. These family members need to have some form of closure. Human remains can be identified through teeth , bone and hair samples. To hear that these people can’t be given a name in such modern times is very disheartening for the country and for the families who have lost someone. Please don’t simply put this to rest. The government, along with the police owe this much to the grieving families.

      November 14, 2017

Well for all of this cutting edge science to work, the forensic technicians would first need a database of DNA and other material, from which samples could be used to match the samples of the deceased. So having said this, maybe this is something that we need to look into for the future, especially bearing in mind our vulnerability and susceptibility to future similar events.

Lessons are to be learned from that. Consider that Dominica is a progressive country. For now, since Hurricane Maria it has set Dominica behind. It is my feeling that in future Dominica will have such a system for DNA and to take DNA prints of nationals. It will come in time.
When a child is born DNA is taken. When babies and adults go to the doctor and dentists, their DNA is taken and is on record. Expect this to occur in Dominica in time to come and when Dominica gets back on its feet and is properly functioning.

Only now has my mum been laid to rest – TODAY in POINTE MICHEL since she passed in Hurricane Maria in September 2017.

Whoever does the weather in Dominica should have known about all this and ensured that information was broadcast to the entire public. As it is, we are all left to learn about weather forecast ourselves as its not coming from the government. For one forecast to be given for an entire island is nonsense. People are often in the dark about what weather is coming and in these times, that’s not good enough. RIP to friends and others unknown to me. Condo, need to all fiends and family of those lost. Get it together Dominicans who are responsible for,th wellbeing of others. You made a real hash of this and lost many lives, years of progress and caused a lot of stress and economic hardship.

These days some people expect too much. In bygone years Dominica did not have weather forecast. They were satisfied by what they heard over the radio and some did not have a radio then. They only hoped for the best.

Please, government should do everything possible to relocate residents from biod-la-mer locations. These places are just too dangerous., whether it be New Town, Massacre, Loubiere, Point Michel, Scotts Head or others. Please, stop people from building their homes there. I know it can be tempting but without regulations and enforcement future loss of property and life will be inevitable, especially with the pattern of climate change. I wonder if properties in such locations will even be insurable.

Maria confirmed what Q95 has been reporting for many years are true and unfortunately to me, our government has convinced their supporters in particular that they should not listen to Q95 because Linton, Fontaine and rest have are lying. But we know from NG Lap Seng and others, to Pre Maria and post Maria are all true; unfortunately many have taken the red bait and bad prescription of the corrupt Doctor and as a result many died and are still dying because of ignorance. By now we should know that when Skerrit says peace is war; when he says not a serious storm and no need to stockpile on food and water, we should expect a Maria. When he says is a truck coupe we know is no coupe because the man is wrong in everything. When one listens to the video of Dr. McIntyre and his story of the white woman that died a day after he said she gave him a bottle of wine, you could tell he knew the storm was going to be dangerous because he said that. Unfortunately their supporters didn’t know.

People like AveMaria have been demonstrating their sickness for years. On every topic, on every issue and the sickness always concludes that the gov’t can do nothing right but the run-mouthers (which is all they do on the other side) have all the answers no matter how ridiculous and far-fetched those answers are.

In fact, everything bad is government’s fault, so in spite of all the forecasting done by the disaster preparedness office and the met. officers and all the warnings given for every one of the hurricanes, to people in low lying areas and along water ways to move away and to to shelters if necessary, as far as AveMaria is concerned there was no warning.

But you see, all those announcements would be on DBS and Kairi which I guess AveMaria has the constitutional right not to listen to, while cursing other people who they figure do not listen to Q95. That’s a common characteristic of that group. They have a monopoly on freedom of expression and…

      • Barbara Saunders

they have a monopoly on intelligence and freedom of expression.
Well, I do not listen to Q95, by choice. I can do without the daily dose of venom that it offers. No one has told me not to do so as I do not allow people to usurp the ownership of my thought processes.

I tune in selectively to listen to the pathetic and hypocritical excuses and defences when issues such as the FACTUAL Sam Raphael revelations, or the dishonest land transfer sagas of the likes of Thompson Fontaine surface. I also tune in when the embarassments of advocates like the Jason Fontaines pop up.

I do this so that I can make an intelligent assessment as to whether the other side is a credible and trustworthy alternative to the much maligned and accused incumbent. I also observe the attitude as it relates to tolerance of opposing views to determine if that is what I want for Dominica in the future. After all, if the two are “six” or “one half dozen” of the other, what’s the point?

We should conclude that Maria killed 65 because DA is small where we all know each other and two months after Maria the 34 in the missing column might as well be added to the dead column. Very sad to hear that and my condolences to the families & friends left to mourn. I cannot blame anyone for Maria or for those that died but I will say that if the government was more responsible, the death toll would not be that high. I mean if they had only turned off their pride and listen to Doctor Fontaine on Q95, for three straight days warning about a dangerous Maria that would live people in shock, I am convinced many more would be saved. Instead of going on other local stations and tell the people to not listen to Q95, when they knew neither DBS or their other preferred radios were not giving timely and updated information like Q95 was doing, so people could take heed and protect themselves. Maria proved that our government failed us both b4 & after Maria and we need to tell them to go
