Rare supermoon eclipse visible from Dominica on Sunday

supermoon

Star gazers be ready as this Sunday night you will be having front row seat right here in Dominica to witness a rare celestial event.

For the first time in more than 30 years you will be able to witness a total lunar eclipse in combination with a “supermoon.”

A lunar eclipse occur when the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow.

What makes Sunday’s eclipse more spectacular, and rare, is that it will be taking place when the moon is at its closest point in its orbit around the earth, making it appear 14 times larger and 30 times brighter than usual, hence the term “supermoon.”

During the event the moon is expected to turn red in color, which has sparked the term ‘blood moon.’

Combined with this ‘supermoon,’ Sunday’s eclipse is going to be a real treat for star gazers because they don’t happen often. The last one took place in 1982 and the next one will take place in 2033.

In Dominica the eclipse will begin at 8:11 pm when the shadow of the earth starts passing over the moon.

It will peak at 10:47 pm when the moon will be completely covered by the earth’s shadow. It will end at 1:22 am.

For those who prefer to watch on their computer screens, NASA will be having a live stream which will begin at 8 pm EDT from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama and will also feature a live look from the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Video below explains the supermoon eclipse phenomenon.

Looking forward to this, and hoping that the recent clear nights can continue.

When I read about lunar eclipses, I am always reminded of how Columbus was able to trick the natives of Jamaica in 1504 by saying he would “take their moon away” if they did not feed him and his men.

An early example of “Knowledge is Power!”

Well done DNO for bringing this celestial event to more people’s attention. I am always surprised that so many have never seen the marvels of the Milky Way, or the beauty of Venus, or even a shooting star. We need to look up more. The night sky is truly beautiful and awe-inspiring.

During the early hours on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015, morning when I looked through my bedroom window I saw the moon fully orange in colour on the West, I said to myself is this the sun, but it was the moon.

I saw it the way you described just last night.

I have seen it more than once in Toronto. A few years ago, in the early hours of the morning, from my living room, I observed the full moon in the foreground, blood red. I thought it strange and concluded this was an omen. I did not give it much thought later.

It is the last of the Tetrad. Behold the beginning of sorrows, the formation of one world religion led by the pope, economic chaos, climatic upheavals, moral decadence, sodomy, and the passage of the national sunday law enforcing false worship to the antichrist. The end of mankind probation is fast approaching to give way to the days of vengence. Jesus is coming soon, prepare to meet thy God.

The Lord’s intention was that there would be one-world religion (not the one you think of). namely, the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church which He founded. This is why there is a Pope, the Head of One Church.
Through the years humanity brought division and disunity by forming their own churches. One day, in God’s time, He has his plan how He will unite his chosen ones, in one Church. I visualize it will be so after He has cleansed the world of people like you or either convert you. The name you have depicts who you are and what you believe in. Many may not be alive then but it will happen.
As for the others you mentioned, these are the work of Satan and his followers. There are many atheists who want a one-world religion just as the other matters you mentioned. After they have made a good mess of things, God will purge them and the world. It will come but only God knows when. Good people, as Christians must pray for the world.

Comments like yours do very little to help the cause of the namely Church you are advocating, your beliefs are absurd.

The fact of the matter is, you are deceived and totally primed to receive the Mark of the Beast. The Roman Church is a persecuting power and it won’t be long before God’s true people are killed for not joining the Catholic church. Repent or woe is you.

No dummy, the entire world will not be able to see it.

Read before you post and stop making an jack.a out of yourself.

Africa will see it partially, all of Asia won’t see it at all, so is Russia etc….etc….

You have once again how dumb you, as you show in your other comments.

Hi Dorival, it is good to help educate others but not with insults especially for a simple comment the person made. If we all were insulted by all our teachers we would remain dumb, dunce and illiterate. If you have the knowledge just share it with love my Brother. I truely hope you realize I mean well for both of you. I am just tired of seeing us insulting each other for no good reason. One love my brother. :) :)

Sylvester, doh worry your head man. I just giving her a taste of her own medicine.

She on DNO blog every day calling people ungodly, stupid, foolish, lacking knowledge and the like because people disagree that Skerrit is the best prime minister or when the say things contrary to the pope and the Catholic Church. lol

    Dummy, disrespectful, who lacks class and dignity. I am not in competition with you. I said what I felt like saying. When I said the rest of the world, intelligent people would know what I mean. They would not make a crude and rude issue out of.
Shut up your clappers and your fingers. You are doing what you love doing very well. That is all you do is to criticize, you mean, wicked and miserable person. You must be an extremely dull person of likewise character; no fun to be with or to carry on a conversation with. You lack humility, love and peace. It appears to be too late for you to learn good manners – etiquette.
One day God will put a spoke in your wheel for good and punish you. Sad sack, it may be coming soon.

You are the biggest exaggerator. I can insult you too. You are a big-time liar. You are just envious of others because you are not more intelligent than they.
You are the biggest fool because you do not know how to amicably communicate and respond to a decent comment. You do not know how to treat others and your fellow people. This means you are not a nice person. One as you can never be happy because you are incapable of generating same.
I think nothing of you. Your response is from someone who lives in the gutter. People like you give decent Dominicans a bad name. The good ones are set apart from you.
You come on this Website in a fighting spirit to spew your personal frustration at DNO’s readers. Keep them to yourself with Satan as your friend.
DNO does not belong to you. DNO should prohibit comments as yours. You love to persecute readers, you uncouth person. One day you will get just what you deserve and soon enough. Wait and see.

Hey both of you all cadette and john are correct. it seems like when “the real fact” cannot face the truth this person get angry when someone disagree with the P.M. policies But that’s the way DLP supports operate, if you disagree with them or the P.M They call and label you as negative, stupid, or as the DPL member told me a few months ago “you know you could be arrested” Real fact has call me names too. but i have never got down to their level. Dominica is still a democracy and we should all respect everyone opinions and allow them to express it without making them feeling marginalize

      • September 27, 2015

        @ATKINSON September 26, 2015

You are not helping! For while you are suggesting respect and allowing others to share their opinion, you are hitting against DLP supporters.

I agree with you that the Real Facts tend to show anger through her comments; I am one of her victims, she knowing that I do not follow with the Catholic Church which I mentioned on DNO.

Sometime ago she called my son a “bastard”; that is the worse among all the other bad things which she has written in her comments against me –she is a complete stranger to me, and I know nothing about her, except that she one of those fanatic Catholics–so that remark was extremely rude and insulting; but still for all, sometimes I agree with her.

So we all need to maintain self discipline or self control if we are going to interact with the public sector–in many cases we are both wrong and two wrongs do not make a right.
