Relatives of missing man seek answers

Relatives of a man missing in Woodford Hill since Sunday are seeking answers as they try to make sense of the unfortunate incident that has befallen the family.

“It is very hard on us,” Shirley Luke, a sister in law of the missing man told Dominica News Online. “Everyone is taking it very hard.”

Police report that 64-year-old Augustus Luke left home on Sunday at around 10:30 am for a bath at Woodford Hill Beach and he has not been seen since.

His sister in law Shirley described him as an independent man who sometimes goes out for long periods of time. “I know he sometimes go out for a period of time but never that long,” she said. “Whenever he goes out, he always come back in time to let everyone know he is well.”

She does not want to conclude that anything has happened to him. “Up to now nothing yet, but I am just praying. I am just praying,” she whispered.

She is appealing to anyone with knowledge of her brother’s whereabouts to contact the police.

At the time of his disappearance Luke was wearing a green long-sleeve shirt, blue long pants, black short rubber boots and a red cap.

He is about 5 feet and 3 inches tall and is dark in complexion, according to the police.

Police are asking anyone with information on Luke’s whereabouts to call the police Hint Line at 1-800-HINT/1-800-4468.

Im not sure what the procedure the police in DA follow with regards to looking for missing persons but so far they have,nt done anything positive.I really thought they would have set up something to try and see if they could find my brother. Its been 5 days now and he can,t be found,i mean on the very first day he was reported missing and there were leads to enable them to act.Is there a search and rescue unit in Dominica? this is a life we talking about. As an ex-police officer myself,i had to deal with situations like that before

That is so true. I haven’t heard the police doing any search of any kind since the report was made. That is very poor. If it was a tourist who got lost or missing in that area, they wouuld have mounted a search, but it’s a Dominican, so, it’s like who cares? I guess the authorities treat foreigners better than ours.

bassmanluke: Sine ou were a police and you have dealt with situations like that before, why don’t you take the lead? Organize a search group. Trace your brother’s steps. You know the places your brother would go more than police does. Ask people questions. People overseas don’t just wait on police. They get busy and organize community groups to look for their missing people and the police help. But just waiting on police never works.

Doug an Kyat : since bassmanluke said that he was an ex-police how do u expect him to take the lead think of something thoughtful to say its his brother an he can”t take the lead if he is NOT a POLICE

The Man is all the way up in England. How you expect the man to stay up there and organize search group? So ridiculous.

Over 30 yrs ago my grandmother who was living in Roseau at that time went missing. She was never found. And I’m still asking questions. I feel worried for this man. May the peace of God be upon the family, in Jesus name.
