Scores witness solar eclipse at Roseau Public Library

Scores of Dominicans of all ages flocked to the Roseau Public Library on Monday afternoon to witness the 2017 solar eclipse.

Viewing of the rare celestial event was made possible with free solar glasses given by the American Corner at the library. The American Corner is an initiative between the Government of Dominica, the US Embassy in Barbados and the Roseau Public Library.

Although the eclipse was a partial one, it did not fail to amaze and astonish.

“This is amazing,” one person said as she looked through the special glasses.

“A once in a lifetime experience,” another gushed.

Others heaped praise on the American Corner for providing the glasses free of charge.

“They deserve commendation,” a viewer said.

Cecil Ferdinand, a library technician at the Roseau Public Library said some 300 eclipse viewing glasses were provided by the American Embassy for the event.

“The glasses were provided by the American Embassy. All were given out,” he said. “We didn’t have enough to supply to everybody.”

The eclipse lasted two hours and 27 minutes.

I hope that’s the genuine glasses because people if it,s not. Amazon is already being sued by two people. Eyes damaged. But they did not get the recall email.. I enjoyed my eclipse safely in the usa.. With proper wear.

You all missed all the benefits of the solar eclipse by wearing those energy-blocking glasses. The powers that be sure keeps playing you guys for fools. There were so many beneficial healing properties to be had from this event. You guys missed out cause you are not in tuned with yourselves and the spiritual energies that emanates from the solar beings. It’s too bad, though.

This is what you think based on your false indoctrination. What beneficial healing properties? What spiritual energy?
The entire world except you know better. We were warned and they paid heed. Good for them. The majority is never wrong.
Better to view the eclipse with these glasses as advised than not use them at all.

I’m a bit skeptical about these glasses ….Why they never gave any in the USVI? Hope they were genuine enough

Today was an exciting day all over the world. It gave many in the world an opportunity to forget their troubles. I felt the excitement of the day. I settled for TV and Internet since all the solar eclipse eye glasses were gone in less than no time and, by the time I paid attention to it being on Monday. Too busy here.
How fortunate D/cans were to get the free eye glasses. Up here in Toronto it cost an arm and a leg, as the saying. Businesses benefit at such times.
I am pleased that many D/cans got an opportunity to view this once-in-a-lifetime eclipse thanks to those who contributed the solar eye glasses.
I saved some pictures on a USB and also of some previous solar eclipses.
A time as this makes us happy and with one another. We should always try to be happy and with our fellow people, all year round.
God bless you fellow D/cans. Keep in mind, through happiness or sorrow it is God’s world and we are His people. “Don’t worry, be happy.”
