Statement by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Dominica’s Independence Anniversary

Clinton

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Dominica as you celebrate your national day this November 3.

The United States and the Commonwealth of Dominica share a strong relationship based on mutual respect, shared values, and common interests.

We are working together to ensure respect for the rule of law, strengthen regional security and stability and promote human rights.

Our partnership through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas is enhancing prosperity throughout the region and helping to build a stronger and brighter future for all people.

As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States is a committed partner and friend, and we look forward to finding even more ways to work together. Happy Independence Day and best wishes for a year of peace, prosperity and opportunity.

Shared Values? What a laugh! I am happy to inform you Mrs Clinton, we Dominicans abide by the UN Human rights charter and also respect international law. Unfortunately events involving your governments over the past decade is in deep contrast to that. To name a few: your war on Iraq contrary to the wishes of the UN security council, your undeclared and non UN sanctioned war on Pakistan,Somalia, among others via the indiscriminate use of assassination drones resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians, your illegal use of rendition policy falsely imprisoning hundreds of people outside the legal process(Guantanamo Bay), your support of Israel and complicity in enslaving the Palestinian people, your blocking of the Palestinian people at the UN to be recognised as an independent state and i can go on and on. So although we Dominicans share similar values with probably the majority of American people, i can assure you that we don’t share the same values of your Government. All the same, thanks for recognising our independence. I wish you could do the same for the Palestinian People.

I was born in Dominica and i am really shaking my head at all the comments. Please just accept the wishes people and keep it moving all of these ridiculous comments are unnecessary. That’s why Dominica will forever remain as is because we do not appreciate and respect each others comments or opinions. I think personally that the state that our beloved country is in is critical and we need all parties and the people to come together in UNITY to build our nation. We are blessed with a beautiful country and we should embrass all of its value. Dtop all of this division and hatred. One Love Dominicans… I’m just saying!

We are asking her to open discussions with her powers in europe and america and israel on the terms of reparations of people who are displaced into slavery to build up their empires. Now that the work is done and we are “independent” we need some of the billions that have been diverted to israel.

Direct cash and rehabilitation programs to actually eradicate poverty. The poverty that came about when exslaves were sent out of the fields with absolutely nothing in their hands to leave for their children and grands.

Mrs. Clinton, knowing the great record of work that your husband has left behind, we trust that you can continue the process in order to bring genuine peace and posperity in the world.

Children of the exslaves are still awaiting their legacy.

While CNN is championing the cause of ending modern day slavery, we are clamouring for justice not only to the former slave owners but to the former slaves and their dependencies.

TO PUT AN END TO POVERTY, WE MUST ADDRESS THE QUESTION OF REPARATIONS…….REPAIR THE DAMAGE DONE TO US AND REPAY THE DEBT OF 500 YEARS OF FREE LABOUR.

THANK YOU JUST FOR LISTENING TO THE CRY OF A GREART……..GRAND CHILD OF AN EXSLAVE.

Question: What about the North East and its culture being recognized??

I see Gloria Shillingford well dress up in cultural wear. But i must ask the question where is the Marigot and Wesley aspect of our culture featured???

Remember we do not speak patois or creole!! So where is our heritage and our peice of culture to be incorporated during independence?

      @ DE CARIBBEAN CHANGE

I read her message last year. Keep in mind that she was only appointed as Secretary of State approximately two years ago.
If she and her husband came to Dominica they would surely fall in love with it and may very well invest there, if not live there. The only thing security would be tight.

A very HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to ALL my fellow Dominicans.

To Mrs Clinton, thank you for your message. I’m sure that there are other messages from other countries recognising our independence.
So what if the message did not mention the PM and his cabinet. It is directed at Dominica and its people and that will do for me.

Haters will always be haters. There are those who will never wish or acknowledge anything good if its not them or theirs doing that good. Some of us need to stand back and really look at ourselves and ask ourselves what are we truely trying to gain by our negative attitudes, who are we hurting, what are we actually achieving. The stark truth is, we are only hurting ourselves, and all we are achieving is High Blood pressure, headaches and all other things related to stress.

Once again HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO ALL DOMINICANS.

For those of you who thought this is a make up story, here is the website:

    http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2011/10/176173.htm

I am so happy, America please look over us, too much going on in Dominica right now.

Those who say it is Gabriel C who do, I don’t care who do, this country needs to be exposed. We did not gain independence so that Skerrit and his gang can destroy us. We have shown after 33 years we are still not mature enough to make sound decisions. We need to be looked after, this is the reality of the game. Some of these Caribbean country if u ask me needs to be recolonized.

    • bone
      November 4, 2011

and here is the same website giving the exact same speech for Antigua & Barbuda.

      http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2011/10/176291.htm

Nothing special to Dominica. Just one of her aides writing these speeches…copy and paste country names in there…and when is there turn send them this congratulatory message. Nothing personal!

      • time for truth
        November 4, 2011

bone, you are sooooooo wrong on this. The message sent to Antigua is completely different from the one sent to Dominica. Yes, the greeting was the same, but the body was completely different. Don’t try to tell us is just copy and paste. Letters fromt he White House is based on knowledge of the country. For example, in the letter sent to Antigua, there was no mention of ‘rule of law’ like the one to Dominica.
Another thing is, the majority of the caribbean islands are now siding with unfriendly foreign governments and leaders are anti US in statements; hents is the reason why the governments of Antigua, Dominica were not mentioned in her greeting.

However, if you use the same link you posted and instead of Antigua, put a friendly government, you will see that “The government” of that friendly nation was greeted as well as the people. For example, Belize on their 30th anniversary and Sierra Leone on their 50th aniversary, and the trend goes through with all friendly government. So when all you PM has messed up the name of our country by making negative statements about the USA and they fail to address our unfriendly government in their congratulatory letter, don’t try to tell us that it is the same standard letter that’s been copied and pasted by the secretary. Wrong that!

Mrs. Clinton sent a congratulatory message to our country and people are taking time off to scrutinize it and look for every possible negative loop hole. Stop being so PESSIMISTIC!!

Something is up my people. Now that they are in dialogue with G. Christian, C. Shillingford and Thompson, they sending greetings. November 3, 2011

Ah, so now you’re not only a moronic anti-Semite, but too illiterate to open a dictionary or encyclopedia to look up humanism.

Not “trusting” a person merely because he or she is Jewish is steps away from all-out hatred, and don’t you try to deny it. Instead of getting into an argument with me you cannot possibly win, go learn about the history of what people who have not “trusted” Jews have done to them on the stated basis of sometimes little more than “I don’t like them” or “I don’t trust those filthy Jews.” Go learn what humanism–which is not necessarily any of the things you mentioned–is. And unless you can actually become a better human being and make less ignorant comments, you might do better to simply not make your presence known.

        Good day to you.

      You are crazy.

Thanks Mrs. Clinton….thanks for the good wishes.

I am happy that Dominica is now on the map, those who were determined to keep us in the dark so they could perform their mischief in the dark, all eyes on us now.

America is watching, we need someone to look over us, or else, we will end up like a sad story from the middle east.

I think they need to test for common sense before allowing persons to purchase computers. That is a weapon of Mind destruction.
