Single parents in Salisbury to get housing assistance

Esprit said the programme is comprehensive

Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Caretaker for the Salisbury Constituency, Nicholls Esprit said that government has put in place a “comprehensive” housing programme to assist single parents in that constituency.

He was speaking at a Citizenship By Investment (CBI) awareness related town hall meeting held in Morne Rachette on Monday.

“The Prime Minister and myself have discussed that we will do a comprehensive housing programme in this constituency,” he said. “He has recognized like any other constituency that there are people, particularly single parents, women who are unable to on their own build a home…”

According to him, a comprehensive evaluation will be made for persons who have housing issues and leaking roofs in order to assist them.

“You may meet me and tell me that your roof is leaking and you may tell me it cost you $5000, I may go to the Minister of Housing and tell him let’s give this lady $5000 because that is what she is missing,” Esprit explained. “When you get the $5000 it might not even be half of what you will require to repair your roof. So what we will do, we will have the housing department come, evaluate what is your problem, so it will have a labour cost and a material cost and we will help you.”

Esprit stated further that because it is more comprehensive, “we will not be able to help everybody at once, so when your turn comes you will get.”

“Please have patience with us,” he noted.

The beggar nation continues to dole out housing to crony supporters. So much CBI money is being used on all these hand outs. What about the money from fish exports that Drigo said we made last year from exporting 1 million pounds of fish overseas? Is that money in Panama Bank Accounts too? I have not heard of one project that the government has approved with the monies from fish exports. :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P

This looks like a scatter shot approach to development,if you ask me.Is this sustainable or is that a one time show just like the giving of laptops to children. For certain single mothers in many other communities across the country are in need of assistance so wouldn’t it be better to have a strategy in place for assisting all those in Dominica in such need. The better policy would be the creation of jobs so these mothers and others can be independent and provide for their needs. The governor of the central bank can only advise, but he discouraged this vote and influence buying, communism approach that is short sighted.Tha man with the honourary doctorate knows best. How stupid and backward because the women and the children’s father’s are not being given hope and a chance to develop pride and confidence but despair and dependency

This man, Skerrit is systematically destroying the fabric of Dominican society in order to make people so dependent on HIM that they will feel they have no choice than to vote DLP in perpetuity. That may be good for the DLP, but it is definitely not good for Dominica and Dominicans.

The good side to this is it will create some temporary jobs. The government should start a trade building program to help some of the young people. So they can think and perhaps open their own companies which will in turn create more jobs.

  19. In many of these posts I see comments that reflect comments made before past elections…and sadly, the results were the same. Nothing changed! People in Dominica are motivated by two things…POVERTY and GREED. For those who are in poverty all they care about is getting something and they don’t care how you got it to give it to them. For the greedy, they simply just want and want more and however they can get it they will take it. It is this these mindsets that crooked politicians easily manipulate by using money and gifts to bribe the people into giving them a free ride to wreak havoc on the Nation’s economy. Ruling with a “One Man Style”, “do anything I please”, “Don’t ask me any questions” type rule that can only be described as “DICTATORIAL” while keeping the loyalty of many by throwing money at them. Yet, time after time it continues to work…Poverty and Greed has given rise to an evil KING!

I think it would be better if the DLP create the environment for the private sector to invest in the country. Then the citizens can be gainfully employed and take care of themselves, instead of them giving hand outs.
After the term of Labour in office it will be 39 or 40 yrs in office, and have almost nothing to show.40 yrs hard labour.

  22. Satan the Briber

Satan is the father of all bribes. He attempted to bribe Jesus in the passage we refer to as The temptation Matt. 4:8-9. Here is satan the briber:
“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things WILL I GIVE thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”
Skerrit the briber gets the people poor at their point of need and starts to bribe them with house, toilet, cash, projects etc not because he loves but because he takes pleasure in bribing people he made to get poor. Where was Shanks when Skerrit was arresting the men of Salsbury that asked him for road so they could go to their farms, work, and build a house for their girlfriends? Evil men shall all be cut off says God.

All she needs now is a man to use his screw driver a night or two and then kick him out for another. Another thing is, if you are a woman and I give you house I and I can have my own key to come in when I want. An evil government with evil plans even when they want to look good to buy votes

Dear Mr Skerrit, cabinet members and Nichols ‘Shanks’ Esprit,

Is this the best cost and benefit analysis for Salisbury and for Dominica? NOT. Why are you teaching us mediocrity and dependency equals economic prosperity? Where is your love for Salisbury, for Dominica?

Well, well, well, we do not have feeder roads, we do not have a bridge, but hey, let’s give free money and freebies; let’s encourage teen pregnancies and one parent families to build a wealthy and prosperous Salisbury.

Mr Skerrit, and cabinet members, I was born and brought up in Salisbury. When I was growing up, Salisbury used to be a ghost village during the day, eerily quiet. The only daytime activity were the leaves stirring in the wind.

When a young person finished school, parents would ask, what would you like to do? Everyone had to learn a skill (apprend un later). From a very early age my peers and I were taught how to be independent. Why turn the clock back 500 years Mr Skerrit? Why?

      • The Canadian Sukuyah took to her broom last night to visit the situation in Dominica and found that all was to her liking. The unemployment of so many, the lack of large-scale Agricultural production and exports, the abject poverty of families still living in one-room shacks with pit toilets outside, the strong stench of a dirty Capital City brought joy to her wicked heart. As she landed her broom (flight w666) on her roof in Canada she could not wait to get into her little cramped apartment and on DNO to sing praises to her one-sided, decisive and vindictive Prime Minister, whom she describes as “God’s chosen”. Using the name of Christs she runs under every comment to tell people that their lack of praise and adoration for her beloved Prime Minister is unpatriotic and treasonous, while hoping that she will receive a free ticket to come to Dominica during daylight hours next elections…but Sukuyahs sometimes get stuck passing each other in Roseau!

Yes! All this idle talk, one day you will pay for it. You are another who do nothing good for D/ca but criticize and spew insults and innuendos.
Yes! The Lord said, “I tell you on the Day of Judgment, every idle word that man shall speak he shall render an account thereof.”
He will also punish those who believe in and quote evil people. Keep on and see where you will end up one day.
Frogs have no souls. Human beings have souls. When the soul leaves the body, it is dead. The soul has to stand before God for its first judgment, what it has done and failed to do. Then the second judgment at the end of the world.
You are another one that Dr. Peters spoke of. Your ignorance projects itself.

If especially their financial status change and when it occurs, all concerned as also the authorities will deal with it. They will know what to do. Haven’t the government been doing that all along? When did the Housing Revolution start in January 2017? Or long before that? When did the ‘Yes We Care Program” started? I know it did not start in 2017. Can we remember the Budget when the Finance Ministry stated about getting rid of all Pit Latrines? Was that after January 1 2017? I remember the UWP calling it a Pit Latrine Budget. Remember %? So do all of us.

What started in January 2017 and we all know that too, could be the dismantling of all these programs and why? An experience politician who wants what is best for their country, would certainly have thought twice. The UWP is seeing; how this government is working for the people and country.

Unfortunately the UWP cannot stand it because they know if this government continues on its path we will have many happy Dominicans pleased with their Government. If the UWP were smart, they would not be on a war path; they would show us we have a choice.

This perpetuation of a handout society needs to stop. Yes the state should help citizens who are in need. But to be abusing the state resources on those levels is just wicked. How can you be dishing out money to people to fix their roof without them paying it back or at-least some of it back?

This government, in its quest to remain in power, is draining the country’s inhabitant’s independence and limited resources. When people have homes, they get jobs and work to maintain them – they may take a loan to repay them, but they work. Create employment to alleviate people from those problems.

You appear to be one of those Dominicans who are only ever able to think of “ME” “Me” “me” hence the reason our country is as divided and unproductive as it is. IT IS HIGH TIME PEOPLE START LOOKING AT THE BIGGER PICTURE OF “US” “OUR COUNTRY’S FUTURE”. You are sick and narrow-minded. Have you ever visited or lived in a progressive country? These governments have funds set aside to assist these people; even visitors who may be in need of, depending on their situation.
Your very own black people overseas have been helped in many ways. Young students, barely reached adulthood conceive babies. The government will assist them, even though they reside at their parents home. If the parents are not able to support their daughter/son baby, they will receive social welfare benefits. They also receive prams and whatever else is necessary. Much more could be stated.
You need to educate and broaden your mind. Today, everyone has TV. Surely the minds of some of you critics should broaden.
You want the government to go to the young boys and girls and tell them to refrain from sexual activity to avoid having babies? This is the parents responsibility.
It is the government’s responsibility to help the needy Be wise.

Ryan, you are narrow-minded. People as you can never comprehend what is being relayed.
Those of you critics act as if you are goody two-shoes. It is disgusting to read some comments as yours.
DNO posts articles about the government’s plans to build up Dominica and help the needy. You people criticize him at every step of the way. All you offer is to be critical; no suggestions.
Much can be done in Dominica but it takes time and also money. Those in high places could do more. They could suggest to the government what could be done and how to implement it.
You do not order the government around and expect that your critiques and suggestions will be taken into consideration.
You put a bad taste in the mouths of people who want what is good for Dominica.
What I have noted, as you want the government to suit you, you critics are in dire need of changing your mannerisms and also on this Website, to your fellow people. You need to learn discipline and respect.

The sexy leader, the supreme immortal being, the right hand of God, his majesty Roosevelt skeritt and lord Esprit actually think that under this blazing hot sun that they could buy the village of Salisbury too? Do they think that this cheap shot will make them forget the tear gas? Salisbury people are renowned for their hard work, They are still blue blue vex about the way you’ve treated them over the years. You denied them farm roads so that they could work to build their own houses but here you are offering them ki pools; training the public be lazy and dependent on them those wicked sons of ancient Pharos. Unlike the stupid st. Joe people who sit back and wait for the government to feed them, I trust that this plan will be rejected by all in Salisbury

A joke that man… 17 years and only today this lazy government labor. Seeing that there are plenty struggling people in Dominica. What was wrong you all were blind and only now seeing the light. Well again the banks reject all this money so it has to be spent one way or another……no one in Dominica should be living in squalor in this day and age. Shame on Skerit and his government losers no imagination no foresight. Just go already you all are tired and useless. Where is the social services department to handle theses issues. No one should be homeless by choice in Dominica not in 2017. Millions for a bi election. Millions for a bridge. Millions over there millions there and people are living without water light and toilet in Dominica. I just want to vomit…

Glad to see Esprit at the forefront of this project. Usually when a candidate loses, they abandon the people quickly. But Esprit has been working tirelessly for the people of Salisbury regardless of the results at the polls.

He has been working tirelessly alright…..by having the Chief Liar and the SS Squad teargas them to hell and helping police identify protesters by giving real names? I am just asking a question.  I advise the Salisbury people to take everything they give you and then run them out of town.

Assertive like the rod of Moses!

WHAT THE A%@ IS GOING ON IN DOMINICA??!!!!

everywhere you turn, Skerrit and his minions are trying to give people some SHORT TERM resolutions….. MAN CREATE JOBS FOR THE PEOPLE TO BE INDEPENDENT!!!

That’s a sad and humiliating culture being cultivated in Dominica… you have to kiss A@$ and become a dog, this culture is erasing the sense of pride in our people….

and that dotish talking about “You may meet me and tell me that your roof is leaking and you may tell me it cost you $5000, I may go to the Minister of Housing and tell him let’s give this lady $5000 because that is what she is missing,…”

…. YOU MAY, I MAY…. so THIS IS HOW DOMINICANS COME NOW….. GUESSING WE HAVE TO GO HUMBLY AND ON HANDS AND KNEES ASKING FOR HELP BECAUSE WE CANNOT AFFORD TO HELP OURSELVES.

by the way things are going, I don’t want to see how Dominica and Dominican in the next 2 years… wide spread POVERTY!
