Donald Trump’s victory at the polls spells a new era for the USA, which will also have ramifications for the Caribbean region.

Dr Richard Bernal, Pro Vice Chancellor, Global Affairs, at the University of the West Indies (UWI), said there are several concerns the Caribbean should be aware of moving forward, involving critical issues such as trade, finance and global security.

Speaking at the Vice Chancellor’s forum at the UWI, Mona, entitled ‘The Caribbean Say on USA Today’, Dr Bernal said these issues need immediate focus if the region is to progress.

He said he will deport the thousands of undocumented immigrants. This means illegal ones. It is a problem when a country has many illegal immigrants. They may not be able to work. How do they support themselves? There are some who turn to gangs, drug trafficking and guns. It makes the country less safe for law-abiding people.
President Trump stated they will have to apply to return to the US. Will they be lucky?
It was said he will build a wall between the USA and Mexico. In recent years many Mexicans went to the US illegally. Some built tunnels to get to the USA.
He said he will secure USA before doing anything about this.
Whatever he plans to do he must have the approval of the Senate. There will always be some pros and cons.
Dominicans in the US, as the saying, if push comes to shove and some of you are undocumented and have to return home, take heart. If you have lived a law-abiding life in the US, you can still apply to return to the US, if you wish.

Deportation is for felons only. The other illegals will be sent through processing to become legal if so desired. There are too many illegals and the deportation process would be too expensive to just deport everybody.

Only garbage I read in this article, what is wrong with America protecting there own. America for American. Trump is very patriotic and Caribbean leader must take a lesson from his book. 1. When you stop listening to the masses they will turn on you and 2. Caribbean Leaders stop lie to the masses. So long they are trying to integrate the Caribbean under one umbrella, but they all dragging their feet to enable them to enrich themselves. We are full of natural resources to sustain each other with real sustainable jobs. The service industry is frigle but manufacturing is the most viable growth method. I don’t expect change unless we start seeing “none politicians” like Donald Trump in the Caribbean. He should have wrote an article saying how we can self sustain and because independent from those frigle 1st World Countries. It’s only inevitable when those very countries we depend on so heavily ditch is to save themselves. Wait still on America for development. Foolish Caribbean…

The Caribbean will be just fine under Trump. The lesson foolish Dumb-in-a-cans need to learn here is if they want change it can be done. St. Lucia doing so well and they change their P.M., Trinidad is doing even better and they too changed their P.M., Dominica however is moving backward ever so quickly and steadily but they love their P.M.. after 16 years they are still waiting for their dearly beloved overrated prime minister, the high ranking never changing everlasting eternal passport selling king, the original famous joblessness creator, take of thy shoes from off thy feet cause where thou standeth is holy ground, angels kneel before him and tremble, master caca rubber of the universe to take them to that promised land. Trump should send back all laborite Dominicans to work in their homeland so that they could occupy those phantom jobs Skeritt say that existing. Lol!!!
