The Dominican Guild of Cuban Graduate and Cuba Friendship Association extend sincerest solidarity with the Peoples of Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica as they grapple to overcome the social-economic effects of the devastating Hurricane Matthew.

Fortunately, only the Eastern tip of Cuba was affected with no loss of life – this point to an effective evacuation and disaster response strategy.

We urge our fellow caricom citizens of Jamaica to utilize their resilient nature as they go through the recovery process. Haiti, unfortunately, was the worst impacted from Hurricane Matthew’s fury resulting in more than 10,000 homes destroyed, abundant loss of property and heartbreaking death toll of 800 plus.

At a moment still recuperating favour an unforgettable loss of 200,000 lives and tremendous infrastructure displacement as a result of an earthquake and subsequent cholera outbreak, we fully empathize with our brothers and sisters and stand ready to assist in any way possible.

We commend all who have initiated and effected in any form of assistance e.g. Cuba (medical brigade) and a further appeal for significant and decisive action to ameliorate this Humanitarian Disaster.

This is a sad view. It is something awful for Haitians to bear and after the devastation of the earthquake with many loss of lives.
Matthew was one strong, angry and ferocious hurricane which was bent on destroying everything and killing everyone in its path. This name will also be retired for good as TS Erika.
May God strengthen the Haitian people especially those who are affected by this hurricane and send them much help.
Look at the young ones who are leading, carrying and following the coffin. I guess they have more strength than the older ones who appear to be following behind them.
May the souls of those who died when Matthew struck rest in peace. I am certain many, if not all of them called on the Name of the Lord to help them and to save them.
Our Lord said, “Anyone who calls on His Name will be saved.” Blessed be such a loving, compassionate, merciful and forgiving God. May You always be praised throughout the world until the end of time. Amen!
