Soufriere constituents happy Denise Charles says

Charles said there is major transformation in the constituency

Parliamentary Representative of the Soufriere Constituency, Denise Charles has said that government is continuing to show their commitment to that constituency and constituents are happy.

“Things are progressing quite nicely as the government continues to show their commitment to the Soufriere constituency and our people are very happy with their leadership and the manner in which the government continues to respond to the needs of the Soufriere constituency,” she said on Kairi’s Heng Program.

Charles continued, “As you would have known that during the by-election the government have made a commitment to elevate the standard of living of the people in the Soufriere constituency who had been with another party for 15 years, and you had seen no major improvements in their life.”

She said since Soufriere became a Labour Party seat, “we have seen massive transformation of that constituency, and we will continue to see in the years ahead.”

She pointed out that her constituency started with a “bang” in January.

“The government fulfilled the commitment on further housing assistance. So many of the constituencies which I may have visited that had serious housing needs, roof leaking, plywood that was rotten and serious challenges in repairing their homes, they were happy in January because we have continued with our housing revolution in the Soufriere constituency,” she explained.

She mentioned also that there are many ongoing projects in the Soufriere constituency.

“Some have been completed, some will soon be completed, one in Savanne will soon be completed and the ones in Soufriere, both of them have been completed and the one in Pointe Michel has been completed,” she revealed. “There is plan to continue progress on that by the end of 2018 hopefully we should see a eradication of dirt roads in the Soufriere constituency…”

Just cannot understand why these people who claim to be educated do not understand what is “Development.” Fixing a plywood house, repairing a leak, fixing a road (parttime employment), and having the rest cutting/planting flowers for little and the majority still have to come to you with your red clinic that’s development. Denise do you know that Soufiere and Pte. Michel had vibrant football and cricket teams. Your dad was a good cricketer. Look at the state of those sporting fields in Pte.Michel and soufiere. Kon Kone was a major revenue earner for the communities and is now dead. The land was blessed with citrus and he now abandon. Denise do you like poor people coming to you because they do not have money under your leadership while you drive an expensive infinity? Woman be innovative and stop trying to model the likes of a gov’nt who lacks ideas. They happy with what? Crumbs from from table? What a shame!

It is so sad to see another one of our Dominican women, in this 21st. century, bamboozled by the materialistic environment , by the money, by the lies, the selling of our passports to even crooks and criminals. Selling of our diplomatic passports, selling of our country do not disturb her. Poor woman, so much you have ahead of you to be allowing yourself to be so influenced by what? for what or whom?

Who made you bigger boss. Are you not ashamed, hearing all what is going on about the damages done to DA re. selling of our passports, etc. to be in that company? Character?

Dominica’s future bleak, with women like you defending supporting Skerritt, nobody else. Do you care whether the workers of public works are paid or get the jobs that PWC could do? Were you not on the PWC Board of Directors? Do you care whether the poor get poorer and the rich get rich?

Women, all over the world continue to fight against injustice, inequality, elections (FREE and FAIR), where are…

Are all these people simply brainwashed to become sooooo dotish that all of a sudden their measurement apparatus for development is based on how many sheets of plywood that they give to struggling people to replace their dilapidated shacks? You drive through these communities and it’s an unending sad story of hopelessness and frustration yet they are on the media giving all sorts of ridiculous false impressions.
Thank God for social media and DNO.

Here we go again, give the people a little plywood and they are happy.

Novice parliamentarian, please tell us exactly how the Soufriere constituency has benefitted from the Labour Party over the last 15 years,

I am so embarrassed that people of that constituency are satisfied to accept plywood and a little rum from the government is return for their votes,

    January 24, 2017

So sad, Is this the best this parliamentarian can do? She is trying to compliment the labour party for it’s efforts in her community but simultaneously, either knowingly or unknowingly she exposes the behaviour of the party, saying in essence that the government is not for all of Dominica!! How scandalous? She implies that when the consistency was not supporting the labour party they were neglected, people could not buy galvanise to cover their house roof and the ply wood on their homes were rotting whilst government did nothing to help but now they are voting for the labour party the Government has started to pay attention to the community. What a sad indictment against MR SKERRITT’S government, coming from one of his own.

      Hey Denise
dow make me start on you
When you said constituents happy , i was waiting to hear you say the L. Rose estate was going to produce limes again, employing 1000 of your constituents including those who would walk down the short cut from grand bay ,
I was waiting to hear you say Coulibrie was again going to produce fresh milk ,taken to town on a pick up van , driven by Andre , with over 100 people employed up there ,
I was waiting too hear you say the region has started producing aloes again for export to USA,
I was waiting to hear you say the construction company St MARKS had been restarted employing hundreds of the constituents, I was waiting to hear you say the small boats were again transporting produce to Martinique ,I was waiting to hear you say there was a butcher again producing meat every Friday with middle class people from Roseau coming up to get their stock .
i was waiting to hear you say the fisher men were again supplying the southern districts with…

        Denise , Denise
Let me hear you say 7 Teachers from Soufriere , and 8 from Scotts Head would be going to collect their wages month end . Of course they are happy now as they do not have to earn their own living again but await de Red Clinic ,
Lissen gyrol my people were not like that , we had some of the best stone masons, carpenters , decorators , painters, constructors , in My Dominica , Our Fishermen were the best ,even building their nets from scratch ,it was amazing watching guys build their fish pots .
My people were inovative , there was a lady who made straw mats from screw pine and when i first went to Martinique i recognized her mats as decorations in the biggest hotel there . another poor lady made brooms from kokoyiay , that is the leaves of the coconut tree , I would see visitors from henglan buy them to take back to the uk .
Every able bodied man and woman found something constructive to do ; now they all sitting by the road side and you shouting they happy .

Thats like Donald Trump saying America is happy. Self praise is no praise. Let someone else toot your horn for you. Like the chairperson of the village council or some group you have assisted within your constituency. Really what have you done or hope to do Denise?

She is informing nationals what has been done for Soufriere constituents and what is being done since she took office.
Did you not read what she stated about leaky roofs, etc?
She is not praising herself. She has reason to say they are happy. If you were in their situation would you not be happy?

Especially when they grow old. They have an MP whom they could talk to and who could do something about assisting them.
Today more needy nationals are getting help. They must not be shy to ask for it.
In those days and prior to the late Dame Eugenia Charles (RIP), as Prime Minister the needy did not get help or not much.

Much needed attention should be on the road from pointe Michel to scottshead. Not long ago the road was “patched up” a bit but the pot holes are back. This is severely dangerous and is a cause of concern. Especially the road on the mountain leading up to Soufriere. One has to be very cautious and careful while driving and trying avoid all these potholes. What are we paying road tax for when the road does more damage to vehicles and could cost someone’ so life??

    • The Truth Be Told (Original)
      January 24, 2017

In a place with a lot of rain and then the hot sun and vice versa, I visualize it is difficult to keep up with proper road maintenance.
The best person to talk to is your MP. They must be willing to respond to their constituents and have the road repaired.

It’s true there are ongoing projects in the constituency. But what about the the residents? Needing a little assistance to help provide for their families?? The people who voted for u? Still a lot are still not attended to as promised. At first she seemed so promising and a people’s person, down to earth… but they help who they want to help. I’m for the government don’t get me wrong but if u are not living up to your expectations and promises then……..

Am from that constituency, and woman, giving people a “shoot of rum,a plywood ” is not progress.
You all have deliberately kept the people poor, have them begging for everything and fool them during election.
Am calling on Skerit to give the guy the money he promised him to care for his eye disease before the recent bi- election. The guy is pleading with you ,you promised him cash,Airline tickets and lodging to Cuba and up till now you have not delivered.
    Wicked.

    • The Truth Be Told (Original)
      January 24, 2017

You critics should reside in a big country to know what true poverty is like and with nine months of winter. Due to the different seasons of all, the poor in those countries need much more as also a warm place to live/sleep. than Dominicans. This is just the tip of the iceberg, so-to-speak.
      Every country has its poverty.
Does the PM not give money to those in need?
You should recall that he said this year he will visit them and listen to them that, they will receive help and not have to travel to Roseau
MP’s in each village should visit their constituents. They should be able to give him a list of all those who are in need of help and gradually get help for them.

Wow she need to take that weight off her head so that she can think and speak clearly. The Soufriere constituency had been with ano there party for 15 years? Is she saying that her government is only concerned about areas that vote the Labor Party? The last time I checked 80% of the constituencies have voted Labor for the last 16 years including Soufriere and the scale of poverty is alarming. If the people of her constituency cannot repair their houses, roof etc it means that many years ago these people built their houses and they now cannot do repairs under a Labor Party administration of 16 years.
The more they talk is the more stupid they appear. No amount of lying, cover up, Make ups, weaves etc can destroy the truth.
The woman can’t even name the projects she wants to talk about in her constituency and her English is atrocious.

Some constituents can put their heads together and some money and try to repair the basketball court and clean the playing field. Everything should not be on the head of the government. Take your complaint to your MP.

Poorly spoken….My lady should have been more precise, I know by Soufriere she means Pointe Michel, Gallion, Scotts Head , but please be more specific.

    • KT
      January 24, 2017

Chichiwawa…. The name of the constituency is Soufriere Constituency. The other communities are areas included within that constituency. So she is quite correct with what she is saying. It would be a bit redundant to \”be more specific\”. You can check the Electoral Office website for the full list of the official names of the constituencies and the areas included in each.

I think U of all persons should be advising UR. palrep. to get jobs for her constituents and fix the ROAD leading to Soufriere instead of running her mouth against the truth when Lennox spoke about our passports on CBS
Then tell her to advice her good friend SKERRIT to arrange things for an INQUIRY into the DIP. . . . . . . passport scam

Young Charles, before you open your mouth and talk bul nonsense consult someone who is mature enough to be your coach and mentor to lecture you on politics and to be aware of the dirty politics because you will become stained like the looks of Skerrit, Blackmore, McIntyre, Charles, Douglas etc. etc.
You are a very young women, go read and educate yourself on the discipline of good politics and how best to serve your constituents. Stay away from the politics of Skerrit’s and those closely who have stained him, because Skerrit came into politics an innocent as you are ad he and his name is well stained. He is therefore NOT a role model to the young people of Dominica , especial you. t the end of the day, go to your hoe and constituency and reflect and ask yourself, what n earth are yo doing mix up with this rotten, corrupt Labour government. There is a saying, “Show e your company , I tell you who you are..”. God Luck
    Good Luck.
