St. Kitts and Nevis has provided EC$ 1 million in relief to Dominica in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika, and the Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, is promising more help.
Harris said the twin island state was spared the ravages of the storm and the government felt moved to assist Dominica in its time of need.
“St. Kitts and Nevis, we were lucky to have been spared the ravages of Erika and that is why we were moved to provide a first contribution of $1-million to the government and people of Dominica,” he said.
Harris arrived in Dominica with Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro, on Wednesday for a handing over ceremony of 300 houses, known as ‘Petrocasas,’ from the Government of Venezuela to Dominica.
He said the people of St. Kitts hope the resilience of the people of Dominica will continue to shine through, despite the disaster.
“We have a long relationship with the government and people of Dominica and we thought that that this was a good time to come to show solidarity not only with Prime Minister (Roosevelt) Skerrit and his government, but the people of Dominica to let them know that all over the people of the Caribbean, in particular, stand in solidarity with them and their recovery is assured…” he said.
Harris stated that Dominica has many friends who are willing to help.
“Dominica has many friends and the friends will rise to the occasion,” he said.
