Former West Indies cricketer, Brian Lara, arrived in Dominica on Monday morning as a representative of the Trinidad and Tobago’s government to determine the country’s needs post Tropical Storm Erika.
Lara is on island as a Special Envoy sent by Trinidad’s newly sworn-in Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley.
He promised his country’s assistance to the island.
“You are family and when you suffer we suffer and we are here to help,” Lara said at a special ceremony held at the Canefield Airport upon his arrival. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Dominica during this challenging time.”
He said Rowley has great concerns for Dominica.
“I am here to really have a look,” he remarked. “My Prime Minister has great concerns for Dominica at this time and it is demonstrated by my presence here today. I know I am not going to like what I see and as I said, if you suffer we are suffering as well and I will be taken back home with messages and everything I see that is happening in Dominica.”
He noted that government of Trinidad and Tobago and its citizens sympathizes with, “the loss of lives, the loss of property and the monumental damage that has been done by Tropical Storm Erika.”
“We recognized that there are a lot of people that have been displaced, evacuated from their villages, unable to return from their homes…” he said.
He said his country’s government stand ready to support Dominica.
“I know over the last couple of weeks we have helped through our air guard in coordination with CDMA, and we stand ready to continue that support as we work alongside the rest of the regional and international partners as we try to assist Dominica in a very coordinating manner,” he stated.
Meantime Foreign Affairs Miniser, Francine Baron, said the island continues to suffer damages from heavy rainfall.
She stated, however, that the government is working towards the country’s recovery.
“There are a number of different areas that have been affected and still affected,” she noted. “We have two communities that are still cut off …, that’s Boetica and Delices. The only access is by air and there are two other communities where they had to evacuate residents after they were deemed unsafe.”
Baron thanked the government of Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the CARICOM, among others, who are willing to assist Dominica.
Lara also met with Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
Lara is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest cricketers of all-time. He holds several cricketing records, including the highest individual score of 501 not out in first class cricket and the highest individual score of 400 not out in a Test innings.
Brian is so hot
aye aye the minister who sometimes goes away to Prepare for mr skerrit before his arrival ms francine baron getting old man?
DOC.LOVE U don’t like DOMINICA . By the way who is the captain of DA…ITS MR SKERRIT!
MR PM I can see it in you eye how you love your people an your country Dominica. got bless you that why every one is coming to your Aid. cus you are real. god bless you please don’t stop doing what you are doing. an please take care of your self.
People are not helping Skerrit, they are helping Dominica.
Selfish Skeritt, Hon Linton is to small to meet Mr. Lara. As parliamentary Representative for the Marigot Constituency, home of the Douglas/Charles airport, Hon Lennox Linton was not invited to meet him at the airport. I am not surprised. A caller called the Matt hot seat show to complain, while Hon Linton could not get a helicopter ride in order to visit Marigot and other constituencies immediately after storm Erika, a young lady, which is alleged, to be very close to Skeritt, was given a helicopter ride to Antigua in order to connect to a flight travelling to New York.
dont stupid why should the pm invite Linton , is he part of the government if you don’t know politics keep your mouth shut ,with idiot like you Dominica will never progress .the only people that can accompany the pm is member of his cabinet , any case Linton don’t have a clue sometime last week he was ask a question he could not answer. The question was if the pm was to hand over to him in the situation Dominica is right now he could not give a clear answer and that’s the man Dominican want to govern them, so if you don’t what you are talking about go rest yourself in the hole you come from idiot,
I love it when I have you laborites trying to burst a blood vessel. That response sounded like Tony. An idiot, stupid, you left out kakador, cacaroach, mosquito. Once Hon Linton’s name is mentioned, then laborites become more dangerous then Erika. Just relax, man, Linton is no God , just an intelligent man.
Did Ian Douglas, Casius Darroux, Johnson Drigo,,Ivor Stephenson and others get helicopter ride to visit their constituencies. What has the location of the Douglas Charles airport have to with Mr. Linton not been invited to meet Lara the man landed at canefield. Does Dominica own helicopters………just asking????????
Why do you all insist on bringing politics and division into everything? Firstly you mentioned hon linton and douglas charles. Brian Lara landed at canefield not douglas charles. My friend took a helicopter ride from anu to dominica which anyone can do caribbean helicopters are opeeating flights to dominica the locak agent is hhv witchurch…..stop trying to spread propaganda
what is this a popularity contest? In this time when the country has suffered so much you guys are still at this nonsense? Come on, its people like you who keep the country back. Grow up already man.
We have only one PM, where is Lenox coming In to say what exactly the same thing that thr PM is saying put you all useless emotions aside and concentrate you all efforts to clean up infront your yards, stop complaining… It’s becoming an embarrassment
Lara arrived at the Canefield Airport and not Douglas Charles. What’s the problem with the PM meeting Lara without the opposition present. Should the PM now invite Linton to all meetings he’s having?
GREAT MOVE BY THE PRIME MINISTER DR. KEITH ROWELY….DOMINICA SHALL RISE AGAIN!!!
Skerro jackets not dried yet????
Nice to see how we embrace people from outside of Dominica through our disaster yet we fail to accept people with different political and social opinions within our own country who are offering themselves
Be thankful we’re getting help. Those among us are in the same boat as us. Where is our gratitude when the world has extended such a huge helping hand in our time of need?
mr lara godbless you your new pm and thanks for all the help since the first few hours ts erika trinidad was already there helping and thanks to all the other island and all those near and far who was on stanby just waiting to come in to plead our cause with us with us we dominicans can thanks you all enough but god will
check his face
It’s wonderful to have Brian Lara in Dominica. He is the greatest batsman of all time! When greatness is mixed with compassion, care and concern for humanity; then you have a person who exemplifies the best of humankind.
Trinidad and Tobago old and new Prime ministers love Dominica and Dominicans through practical help to Dominica in its hour of need.
Thank you Brian Lara.
Thank you Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
You should be thanking the government and people of T’dad and then Brian Lara. He is just an envoy of the government.
brian we know u have money so dont be afraid to throw some on us..thanks for visiting God bless u
Jan jan you are in the mix of bad taste try learning some class ok.
Countries wishes to help us infrastructures please send us crews that able to work well,we need strong infrastructure in Dominica , if our bridges and river banks were built preparely devastations wouldn’t have been severely damaged.
You meant “properly?”
This is not a nice comment. It is an ignorant and sarcastic one; a totally silly comment. If your house is still standing and with you in it, you are fortunate. What if your house was washed away, what would you have stated, i.e., on condition you were still alive.
Can any building and other structures withstand the force of hurricanes and such storms? Surely you know what caused the damage.
You act as if you know how to construct bridges, etc. You are not even a jack of all trades or one trade.
People as you must cease your sarcasm, lest you become affected in certain ways. Some of you will never learn until you have no more faculties which will be a punishment. Watch out! Stay awake!
Take it back..I am not referring to private properties jackass, it seems you’re isolated where you’re, If our bridges and river banks were well protected less devastations would have accured, expertise will say the same.
I hope Brian Lara check up on his land that was promised to him …
Your land in Warner still there….check up on that mabe u can Donate it to a victim
We thank Trinidad & Tobago we appreciate all what you guys have done so far,If you guys decide to help us in infrastructure wise please send your own crew to do the work we believed on you guys, I have been to Trinidad and the infrastructures are great there.
You must be kidding. Take a look at the Brian Lara Stadium. That was supposed to be ready for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. It still sits unfinished. Trinidad worker and contractors are no better than their Dominican counterparts. Guess who gets the contracts for major construction projects in Trinidad? You guessed it: the same ones who constructed the Windsor Park Stadium.
SO WHAT’S YOUR POINT???
You are not a smart one. Trinidad hardly has hurricanes or such storms. Trinidad has not experienced anything that Dominica experienced. Therefore it cannot be proven that their infrastructure is better than what Dominica had and their own crew is more of an expert.
You have much to learn and one of it is love and kindness.
Try writing sensibly. This is a special gift for you:
Trinidad has experience far worst flooding in the last couple of years than dominica, but their roads and bridges was not built by china. But they o have helicopters
He nice erh. Lara better go back fast before I steal him.
You out of it already, White Women he like.
Wasn’t he given a piece of land in Dominica nuh? After he made de 395 runs. maybe its just me. Idk
yes he was
Brian Lara looking like O.J. Simpson
lol
befilia, please shut up and get a pair of glasses lara is better looking by a way ,O.J is a mug.
