Tommy Lee gives Dominica 30-day notice

Tommy Lee leaving the Marigot Police Station for the Melville Hall Airport for deportation

Controversial dancehall artiste, Tommy Lee Sparta, is giving Dominica 30 days to begin compensation negotiations or he will file a claim with the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), the Jamaica Gleaner is reporting.

According to the newspaper the information was part of a letter submitted to Jamaican Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, A.J. Nicholson by attorney-at-law Bert Samuels.

Tommy Lee was set to perform in Portsmouth in February 23 but upon his arrival in Dominica, was refused entry. He was subsequently arrested and the following day, deported.

Tommy Lee, along with Oralie Russell, Junior Fraser and Mario Wallace said they were denied entry into Dominica and placed in inhumane conditions before being forced to leave the island.

The government of Dominica said they were denied entry in the interest of public safety.

In their letter to Nicholson, the men said their removal from Dominica was breach of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas that governs CARICOM and that they received the kind of treatment because they were Jamaicans, according to The Gleaner.

They want the Jamaican government to raise the matter with with the Dominican government with the idea of seeking compensation.

Failure of the Dominican Government to start compensation negotiations within 30 days will result in a lawsuit being filed with the CCJ.

Tommy Lee’s performance in Dominica was harshly criticized by members of the religious fraternity who allege that his music promotes violence and satanism.

The Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC) had called for a boycott of the concert.

DA Goverment does not have to pay him or anyone else on cent.

All countries can deny entry to who ever they chose from entering the country.

If Mr wants compensation, he will have to seek it from the Promoter of the event.

I do think the D/can organizers are very much to blame when they encouraged him to travel to D/ca. They should pay him. Did he not have a contract with them? Note that Tommy Lee is saying nothing about a contract. Did they pay him underhand?
Organizers, you cannot wash your hands off this one and place the blame on the government/immigration authorities. You knew he was not welcomed in addition to being a suspected murderer. Why would you encourage him to travel to D/ca and to perform before especially the D/can youths?
You should not encourage T.L. to file a claim against your government. A claim against the gov’t. is a claim against D/ca and nationals. Where is your patriotism? You should ask him to rescind this proposed claim.

They had heard about him being arrested on suspicion of murder. Based also on this, they should have informed him accordingly. How many countries would allow someone who was arrested for murder in their countries to perform before their nationals? If they did, they would be courting trouble.
He has a criminal record. They should have contacted the Jamaican authorities about him.
I would not have encouraged a person as that to perform in my country. The first and huge error is on the part of the organizers. It was a major one.

No. no, no. Tommy Lee like trades, – give him a baby boy to train as a magic, satanic, money, corrupt, scheming, lieing, one party state politician and the case will go away. Many options here, but it would take a greedy, heartless half bulldog-half goat to accept the last.

I guess the government should put some hefty tax on all of us to help pay for this lawsuit.

When they sue is the public who has to pay. That is you and I and every Dominican. Go for it Tommy Lee. We Dominicans will not mind the higher taxes to help pay for it.

And if UWP wins, the next general elections, which I doubt; they will still have to pay Tommy Lee.

Is a win, win for those Dominicans who think, they can bring down the government by encouraging this lawsuit.

We are our own worse enemy. How many islanders have agreed to sue their country when a Dominica National was deported. Do we know any?

  15. May 9, 2014

The only question in my mind is: Who does Tommie Lee thinks he is, to say to Dominica “do this, that, and the other” or else!

Both him and his lawyer are both “demon possessed” as far as I am concerned. And just like those demons in them, they know that they are doomed–they need to “be quiet”; perhaps by doing so, God will show them His mercy and compassion of Love. What nonsense, that comes from the minds of man!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we read, his traveling documents were confiscated. If he was allowed to travel, probably his attorney managed to get him this leeway. He should never have been allowed to leave the country. If he did, call this a lax government for the man is charged with murder.
Even though he is not a D/can, this gets me angry that the Jamaican government, the police and also immigration allowed him to travel out of the country – to make some money I suppose. This is totally wrong for an arrested murderer! Is it any wonder they injure, maim and murder people and they get away with it?
I will always say and it is factual that they will not escape the fair justice of God. This also pertains to those lax authorities who allow them out on the streets and give them their freedom.
These criminals are having fun in freedom while their victims are six feet deep and their victims’ families continue to mourn their loss and always will.
As my dear mother always said, “God is good and patient!” One day the wheels of their evil actions will turn on them for good, for all eternity. They will regret it too late.

I wonder when will the masses of Dominican people people be enlightened, objective and stick to the issues. The issue is not about Tommy Lee and his Satanism, it’s about allowing him to come to Dominica and then arresting and deporting him. What crime did he commit to be arrested and kept in an inhumane cell. The government knew that he was going to perform in Dominica and was given the okay to do so, by allowing him to enter. If they didn’t want him to perform on the island, the promoters should not have been given the okay to bring him in. So get the message u people. By the way, i’m no supporter of his evil music and i don’t go to any musical concert or shows. I’m a born again believer in the CHRIST.

Some of you, Tommy Lee’s fans must think before you comment and utilize your common sense. Do not be a traitor to your country, its Laws and the protection and security of nationals as yourself.
Let me inform you further. Who are you blaming in this saga of Tommy Lee, Satan worshiper? Did you want the D/can immigration authorities to proclaim to him while in Jamaica that he was not welcomed? He had organizers. They knew the sentiments of the majority of D/cans. They should have advised him against coming to D/ca.
Tommy Lee was aware that he was not welcomed. Knowing this, why did he venture to come to Dominica? He is a bold man. Was he encouraged by the organizers that he should still come?
Know that if he did there would have been trouble. God knows how bad the situation could have been. His fans would not have had a pleasant evening if he performed. It was better that he was denied entry and also for his own good.
Therefore, immigration authorities were within their rights to stop him from landing. Bold as he was he defied them as if he belongs in Dominica, owns D/ca, is a national and has a right to enter D/ca.
Furthermore, why did his D/can organizers not inform him that he should exempt himself from coming to D/ca to perform?
In addition, you do not know what transpired between the government/immigration and the organizers. I am certain there was some communication between them.
At this moment, nothing of the such was mentioned. If Tommy Lee sues, we will hear more from the D/can immigration. Keep in mind the public does not know everything and should not, at this time know anything more.
Let the case begin and see how it will end. Keep in mind Tommy Lee was already a suspected, arrested murderer. The Jamaican authority should not have allowed him to travel unless he traveled without their knowledge. They should also have to answer to why he was allowed to leave Jamaica; unless he sneaked out.

“Tommy Lee Sparta, is giving Dominica 30 days to begin compensation negotiations or he will file a claim with the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), the Jamaica Gleaner is reporting.”

That is the biggest bit of bull-crap I’ve ever heard in my life, and if the Jamaica Gleaner is condoning such nonsense, that tells me something is wrong with the Editor of the Gleaner, and all of Jamaica! These people are crazy. Any country Immigration and Naturalization service has the legal right to refuse entry to anyone they wish for any reason they deem fit!

Just because some idiot believes he is an entertainer does not give him any special privilege to enter any country, even Dominica. I am a Dominican born in the Village of Wesley, and became a naturalized American citizen, if I go home today, the Dominica Immigration does not have to treat me as an Dominican any longer; if they so desire, they can limit my time in Dominica the same as any other foreigner.

Now as far as I know my and grandchildren who are not born in Dominica, as long as they can produce documentation that they are born of Dominica parentage, they can according to the constitution of our country enjoy the same privilege as a Dominican born. While my rights as a Dominican born is secured in out nations constitution is secured, mine as a Dominica natural born is forfeited.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! Anyway if, and when, I return to Dominica, anybody treats me any different to a king born in Wesley I will physically fight for my birth right; and as the saying go’s “no law, or no constitution can prevent me.”

Anyway, forgetting the humor, I do not understand that man’s logic where he intends to file case in the CCJ, if Dominica does not commenced negotiating with him. That sounds so ridiculous, it is like saying you offend me on Mars, and since there is no court established on Mars, I am going to file a case in a Jamaica court: that is nothing more than the fumes of rotten baloney, mixed with rotten eggs emanating from his mouth.

If his theory is correct, if the nonsense he is talking, comes close to posible; that is all the more reason for our people to detest our nation involvement in the CCJ.

(Ah think I go have to talk to me friend Tony Astaphan bout dat! an har wa him say oui!)

Dude, what are you talking about. There is no law against dual citizenship in Dominica or America. Therefore, you can’t forfeit your birthright in any of these places simply by becoming a citizen of the other or of another country for that matter.

If you chose not to keep your Dominican passport up to date for travel back into Dominica or other purposes then that’s on you. Obviously, if you come in on your US pp then you’ll be treated as a foreigner. But it doesn’t mean your DA birthright is ‘forfeited’. You may have chosen not to exercise it. Or maybe I misunderstood your point.

There is no need to make matters worse by getting into a ‘face saving’ squabble. It’s either the matter was handled properly or not. The Dominican government should have a thorough review of the matter and if it finds that Tommy Lee was treated properly, then tell Tommy Lee “See you in court”. On the other hand, if it finds that he was improperly treated, sit down with Tommy Lee and try to reach a reasonable resolution. The government must remember that if it goes to court and loses, there is no telling what a judge will award Tommy Lee and guess who will pay?

dumb dominican. If you were making money selling music, would you not pursue other avenues to make money elsewhere? especially if your civil liberties were disrespected? so because he hasnt stopped making money, he should not stand up for himself? Dominica needs this wake up call, especially the hypocrite church people.

SMH the ref is not about the man and his music. Its about the phony currency he had out in circulation and was arrested and facing charges on. Dominicans before you all attack people inform yourselves.

Cabaral is too fixated on this tommylee issue. No matter what a Jcan will never encourage anyone to sue their island. So much for patriots.

What is a self hating coon? do you believe man evolved from apes and monkeys? It’s sad that you see yourself that way, and not as a human.

Let him bring us court and fight the case (Last I heard he can’t leave Jamaica right now). We have good lawyers in the Public Service so let them fight it. Tie it up in court for years to come.

    Behold and See!
An interesting article to Read or what? Hearing of someone who presented himself to be a representative of a people in governing locally and maybe otherwise, may be in support of a lawsuit brought on this people. How then would it be possible to provide adequate and True representation to the nation. Are there any Warning Signs? Could this controversy been avoided? Was there not said to be a majority voice spoken out? Were the warning signs against the trouble ahead ignored? How then if the position in parliament is granted will there be respect for ‘the eyes have it’? Are Clear Warning signs given now? ATTENTION !Less you ignore and receive Just reward for the inevitable.
If it seems right to you to do what is selfish and evil people, then do what you choose. However, Know You this, many are the plans of a man’s heart but It Is THE LORD’S PURPOSE THAT WILL PREVAIL. Wake People if you are sleeping. As This Earth Continues time goes on. The thing is I love Dominica but there is a lot of things which need to be change in order to move forward. I say don’t disturb about beautiful country but be up to date with our mentality! Sherrie should make the religious people that denied the show to pay for this action! My 2 cents the same set that goes to st Martin and antigua for adult entertainment!

TL and his entourage are CARICOM nationals just like we in Dominica are, that is why we have CARICOM passports – so if TL get no respect in DA, then Dominicans get no respect when travelling to CARICOM countries, and trust me you don’t want that because there are more Dominicans living and working in CARICOM countries than there are Jamaican’s living and working in Dominica!

While in St Joe Skerrit said his a Caribbean man & how his Labour party is a party of inclusion…. Yet still he and his goons deny a fellow Caricom citizen access to D/ca, Who was no threat to national security entry to perform a show…. Skerrit don’t know what to say ….Lennox have this man flopping around like a fish outta water :-P …..

Tommy Lee Must win this case because the revised treaty of Chaguaramas clearly states you CAN’T deny a fellow Caricom citizen entry if they are not a threat to your national security….. So you telling me those Idiots that deny the man didn’t know that ?? What the hell is going on in this place ?? The CCJ will school you all….

Also I am a follower of Jesus Christ but when church ( Christian Council, Religious Fraternity) trying dictate to people what to listen to… I ain’t for that at all, Let all of them foot the Lawsuit bill !!
